The Central Hotel occupies a Grade II listed building in The Crescent, Scarborough, which was built between 1833-1857 and is described as the most important Georgian terrace in Britain outside Bath. The hotel overlooks the delightful Crescent Gardens and sits opposite the Scarborough Cultural Quarter where you will find The Scarborough Art Gallery and The Sitwell House – ‘Woodend’. As the name suggests, The Central Hotel enjoys the very best location in Scarborough. A five minute walk from the hotel will take you to the railway station, The Stephen Joseph Theatre, the centre of the High Street and the Brunswick Shopping Centre, the Rotunda Museum, and down through the Valley Gardens to the Scarborough Spa Bridge. Another five minute walk takes you to the centre of the beach at South Bay, or to the Scarborough Spa complex. Other famous attractions in Scarborough including the Castle, the Open Air Theatre, Peasholm Park and Alpamare Waterpark are a short bus or taxi ride away. Historic Hotels & Properties bought The Central Hotel in 2018 with a mission to restore this important building to its early Victorian elegance, sensitively incorporating modern enhancements. Our brief for the restoration of the hotel is simple: create the best hotel in Scarborough, a hotel that Yorkshire can be proud of. Our rooms are large, airy and light and retain many period features including aged pine floors and original ceiling details. The rooms have been modernised with large flat screen TVs, free WiFi, and efficient central heating. Bathrooms are currently being restored to their Victorian-period charm, with modern standards. All rooms come with fully stocked amenity trays and toiletries. We hope you will enjoy every aspect of your visit to The Central Hotel Scarborough. We look forward to welcoming you.

The Central Hotel Scarborough garners appreciation for its cleanliness and its prime location near the sea, which many guests find commendable. While some visitors highlight the spaciousness and cleanliness of the rooms, others express concerns over the decor and maintenance, suggesting a gap between expectation and reality.
The hotel's atmosphere strikes a unique note with its blend of traditional and quirky elements, though opinions on value and amenities are mixed, with some guests feeling let down by additional costs and a lack of basic provisions. Service experiences also vary, with reports of both friendly and unhelpful staff encounters.

Stayed overnight , 20/2/20 . A nice clean spacious room with a king size comfy ( 😀 💤 ) bed . The room has an en-suite bathroom with shower , a TV , tea and coffee facilities, hair dryer and controllable air conditioning : All you need really 👍.
The Hotel is ideally located near the towns shopping precinct, bats and various restaurants.
You can park on site , on a first come first parks basis BUT there is ample PAY parking within 300/400 yards .
The breakfast was excellent . Plenty to eat , such as cereals etc and the English brekky is cooked to order ( not buffet ) .
So all-in-all well worth the money pain for the one night stay . £64 for 2 👍

Stayed in a basic double room that was spacious, spotless and was furnished and decorated in keeping with the historical theme of the hotel. Check in was trouble free and friendly. Pleased we decided to have the breakfast as it was excellent, freshly cooked with obviously quality produce. Parking at the hotel is a little tight, but there is ample off street car parking in the immediate location. Would stay gain without hesitation.

Stayed 2 nights in this pet friendly hotel. Just be aware that this hotel no longer has an on site restaurant, though on our first night they were serving food in the bar but on the second night there was no chef available so we had to go to the fish restaurant across the road. We had planned on returning to the hotel after the restaurant for a drink in the bar, but it was closed at 8:30pm. The food we had in the bar on the first night was excellent ‘Hunters Chicken and Wagyu Burger’ with a dressed salad as an extra side dish. The portion sizes were very generous we couldn’t manage to finish our meals.
The twin room was spotless, just to give some constructive criticism; our stay would have been much improved if there were two comfy chairs (like the yellow ones in the bar), would have preferred that instead of the round table which really served no purpose, not very comfy trying to prop yourself up in bed. The light above the mirror was very dim, so difficult to see when doing hair and make up. Hairdryer provided is under powered at 1200W really needs to be 2000W. Would also have liked access to an iron and ironing board. The bathroom was large with a good size shower, nice large towels but dreadful thin cheap toilet rolls.
Breakfast was a choice of cereal, fruit juice and yoghurts. The full english was good and plentiful but service was very slow there was just one guy front of house running around trying to do everything. All the staff were amazing, really friendly and helpful.
The hotel location is great for getting into town and the big plus is that it has on site parking at £12/night. Pets are charged at £15/night but you are only allowed in the “standard rooms” with a pet and pets are allowed in the public bar area.
I’m afraid to say we won’t be returning, lack of 2 comfy chairs in the room and small standard room with a view into someone else’s room, no on-site restaurant, slow breakfast service, early bar closing without warning, no bar food on second night, it just all added up.

We have just stayed here for two nights and overall have been left unimpressed. Check in itself wasn't great, staff didn't seem interested at all and we could not check in until 3pm which we thought was late. We were then given our key and told the wifi password was on the fob, this didn't work once. The room was very run down, needed a good paint and the ceiling was cracked and stains on the walls, all the furniture was worn down also. Bed and pillows uncomfortable. We struggled to turn the shower off and the toilet wouldn't flush. The room was 'cleaned' during our stay but no fresh towels provided, the ones we had used that morning were simply folded and placed on the end of the bed for us to use again! One of the towels had stains on it. Parking at the hotel was very limited and they charged £12 a day for this, never usually have to pay for parking when staying at a hotel. We couldn't get a space at the hotel so were told the Brunswick shopping centre opposite was £8 for 24 hours so that should have been £16 for our stay, when we went to pay it was £24.50! Breakfast not included in stay but told we could have breakfast for an additional £12.50 each, we didn't bother and ate elsewhere. Left very disappointed from our stay, prices very high for what you actually get. We won't stay here again

What a fantastic hotel. We stayed for 1 night on b and b basis, was not disappointed.
We managed to get parked in the hotel car park, although you can get a £5 parking permit for on street parking or there is a car park at the back of the hotel £8 for 24 hours. The hotel is in a brilliant location, just minutes from the town. Check in was brilliant, the member of staff was pleasant and very helpful. We were in room 112, a large room with large windows, there was tea/coffee, hot chocolate 2 bottles of water. The bathroom was also very large with plenty of toiletries etc. and plenty of white fluffy towels. The shower was very good also. The room was very warm and cosy. The bed was very comfortable and very clean. There was plenty of storage space. There was also a large TV with Netflix etc, The bar area was very well stocked and reasonably priced. There was a 21st birthday on in the hotel but you could not hear any noise when you were in your room. The breakfast was fantastic, cereals, juice, fruit, pastries and a full English breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who served the breakfast, they were very friendly and helpful. Overall this hotel is the best one we have stayed in. All the staff are very helpful, polite and friendly. When we checked out we were asked if we had had a nice stay which you don't often get asked these days.
Brilliant hotel will definitely be back. Nice historic building, once is has been fully refurbished it will look great.

I was looking forward to this weekend away as this was our first time away since the start of lockdown, the pictures online of this hotel look lovely. We had booked a standard double room at £83 per night approximately a month before the visit. Online all of the pictures of the hotel rooms are of their best rooms, we obviously were not expecting to be put in one of these rooms but we did expect a room with abit more class and cleanliness than what we walked into. The decor is very dated, the bathroom was atrocious, the bathroom floor tiles were cracked, there was damp on the walls and mold around the bath. The window had been left open in the room so the room was freezing, and there was no way for us to turn the heating on. I then decided to go and speak to reception and explained that we were unhappy. The receptionist was empathetic but explained that the hotel was fully booked apart from one other room which she allowed us to switch to; this new room had a similar dated decor but at least the bathroom was clean. I also struggle to believe that the hotel was fully booked during a pandemic. Overall our stay was disappointing, I would recommend anyone to lower their expectations of this hotel from what they have seen online. Surely a hotel and hospitality business would want to make their customers as satisfied as possible during the current climate in order to get repeat business and good reviews, this hotel however did not seem bothered by this.

From a location standpoint, the hotel was excellent. Sadly, the positives end there.
Dog hairs filled the carpets on our way to the room and, once we’d navigated the seemingly endless amounts of dirty laundry that had been scattered throughout the hallways, we arrived to find dirty towels and used dining utensils still in the room from previous guests.
There was no soap in the bathroom, ensuring we had to instead use shower gel to wash our hands, and the shower itself was riddled with black mould. Cleanliness seemingly not a strength of the hotel.
Breakfast the following morning followed a similar underwhelming trend. My partner, who is a vegetarian, was not informed that meat-free sausages were not available and was served what can only be described as a plate of tomatoes, mushrooms and beans. We were then asked to pay again for breakfast, despite being told it was already included in the booking. In fairness to the staff, everyone we dealt with was very pleasant and the issue was quickly resolved.
Would be worth booking for around £40 per night purely due to location, certainly not the £80 we paid.

We stayed with you from 23rd July for 2 nights and what a mistake that was!
When we arrived, there was no ‘welcome or thank you’, just ‘sign here and complete the paperwork’.
There was no mention, pre booking, that the ‘whiskey bar’ or lounge were closed.
The open bar (breakfast area) was dull, uninviting and miserable. It should have been a place where the guests could have relaxed and spent some money.
The junior suite did not have a ‘luxurious bathroom’ and was very dated with its 1990’s furniture and antiquated decor.
On the first morning when we went for breakfast, it was a shambles. I requested a vegetarian breakfast with scrambled eggs and whole meal toast... I’m still waiting. My wife requested a bacon and sausage sandwich. Her bacon was undercooked and the bread stale. Let’s mention the continental....the cheapest of yogurts we’re warm and the fruit uninviting. My wife requested a croissant and it was delivered with no butter or jam. We did not have breakfast the second day.
The images that are on your website reflect nothing that is on offer. You were proud that you owned several hotels in the vicinity, but I suggest that you try specialising in one first.
There was no ambiance or hospitality... even when we left, nobody asked us about our experience.

From stepping in through the front door you can tell the owner has taken time to take this historical building back to what it would have looked like in the Edwardian period. From the flooring to the walls & furniture.
The room was lovely with wood paneling views over the crescents park land. The house keeping staff do a lovely job in keeping the room looking there best.
The breakfast was very nice well priced for what you got a lovely buffet table with fresh fruit salad Greek yogurt my favorite wake me up. Lots of other goodies to have before looking at the breakfast menu the cooked breakfast is very nice. I was told that the sausage is gluten free which I'll be passing this onto my friends. The young lady who served me was very nice well turned out (smartly dressed). Breakfast is from 8am until 11.30am which is good as when on holiday I don't like to be up before 9am.
The bar do a good number of cocktails which I can't remember any of the numbers after having a few of them.
The evening bar menu is well priced in my view & is very nice. I liked how each dish came out on a different plate or dish or wooden board.
I know the mix grill is for two people but I love my meat. Let's just say I was well feed & everything was cooked very well just to how I like it.

Ideal location near to the shops and short walk to promenade. Our room was very comfortable and large and the bathroom was also large with plenty of hot water and good towels and toiletries. The manager and staff were very friendly and helpful, and the large bar has character and is welcoming. We were able to park in the car park complimentary for the duration of our stay.

Yes we offer gluten free breakfast however we do ask us that you inform us when booking.

Just returned from weekend break. This hotel was previously the Beiderbecke hotel which closed three years ago and reopened six weeks ago as the Central hotel. It's in the process of being refurbished but there was no disruption whilst we were staying there last weekend. Can recommend.
