We are a budget range, non-parking hotel, just a stone's throw away from the sea, beaches and the town centre. As far as Parking facilities go, there 2 multi storey car parks close by (Palm Court and Balmoral, we give a discount on your NCP ticket at the hotel if you choose to use the balmoral multi storey) & there's also a council paid car park situated outside the hotel which is free between 6PM and 9AM. We have a few rooms that have steps leading up to them so please bear this in mind before booking as we are limited for accessibility. We have an on-site bar and serve food between 5PM and 10PM, relax with us or find some lovely restaurants with 5 min walk. In the morning you can join us for breakfast between 7AM and 10AM Mon-Fri and 8AM till 11PM on weekends and bank holidays. Just ask reception for a hair dryer or Iron if needed & we will be happy to help. All the staff are looking forward to welcoming you for your trip away to sunny Scarborough here at Travelodge St.Nicholas!

Travelodge Hotel - Scarborough St Nicholas delivers a mixed experience, with guests welcoming the staff's warmth and the hotel's prime location near the beach and shops, making it an ideal exploring base. However, some travelers express dissatisfaction with the outdated decor and additional costs such as parking. While the hotel's value is appreciated by many, rooms often draw criticism for cleanliness and maintenance issues. Despite the friendly service, noise can be disruptive, and amenities, though adequate, are noted to require updating.

We arrived the first problem was the parking however the Travelodge do a ticket for 24hrs which is a really good deal for £5! if u can find a space but you cant use your car or you lose your space. The entrance to the hotel had a strong smell of urine, check in was fine. Hotel was tired. They have stopped putting glasses in the room so if you need water you have to use your coffee mug so take your own glass, reception dont even supply plastic ones which as they are not supplying glass ones you think they would.

First of all, the location!! Oh my days, it's absolutely perfect! Overlooking the sea front with a car park right outside (£5 per day permit from Travelodge), it really is spot on to explore Scarborough. The tramway to the beach is literally a 2 minute walk and shops in the town are less than a 10 minute walk away; everything is very accessible and fairly close by. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. The space up the stairs to the right of the reception desk is slightly odd as it would be a good place for a couple of sofas (not sure if this was a covid thing or if it is normally like this). Decent bar and lounge/breakfast area. One staff member did also say that they has started doing breakfast again (pre bookable and table service) which is great to see again. We had a double room on the first floor overlooking some overgrown weeds (not the nicest to look at but nothing to bother about really). The corridors are quite narrow but well lit and have signage everywhere. Our room was very tired but the bed was clean; definitely due for a coat of paint and some new curtains. The soap in the bathroom didn't work and the top kept opening so needed to scoop out hand-wash 🙄 and the sink needed a scrub. We paid £40 for the room for 1 night which, considering it was half term, wasn't too bad and we would definitely stay there again based purely on the location.

We made a last minute decision to go to Scarborugh for the day and stay overnight. This hotel was by far the cheapest at £31 for the night, its location was perfect and the fact that we could park right outside the hotel for £5 was fantastic. They do need to put this on the website as we werent aware at the time of booking. The room was clean and considering we only showered and slept there it was perfect. The only thing we will recommend to them is to replace the shower curtain with a screen as it limits the amount of space to move in as the curtain seemed to stick to you.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

I've stayed in plenty of Travelodge’s over the years and generally there fine but the Scarborough St Nicholas hotel is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. We are a family of 4 (kids are 13 and 4yrs) booked an overnight stay for a seaside holiday as kids had never been.

The hotel is well past its best (doesn’t look anything like the photos on the website) rooms basic, kids beds had rock hard mattresses on foldaway beds. The carpets were grubby there was smell of foist in the room which got worst the longer we stayed in the room. There was mould in the bathroom and windows were so dirty you could barley see through them (couldn’t move rooms as hotel was fully booked).

WARNING - Segulls have nested on the windows so squawk all night, we barely got 2 hours sleep all night, the kids were so tired the next day we had to cut short the day we had planned. The fire alarm went off in the morning too so had to evacuate just to add to our dreadful experience.

There was also no hot or cold water available in the morning, so couldn’t shower, I raised issue with reception but just received a dismissive response saying the manager was looking at the issue in the plant room, I asked how long this might take to resolve and again got a short and abrupt answer saying they didn’t know and had no way of checking with the manager who was in the plant room. So customer service was non existent, really rather rude and unhelpful. The water issue was not resolved so I had to purchase water from the hotel vending machine just so my family could brush their teeth and wash their face and hands. No water is bad enough when your a paying guest but during a pandemic (covid-19) where your told to wash your hands regularly is completely unacceptable and disgusting - especially when there was not even the courtesy of an apology for the inconvenience

So in short the hotels dirty, the staff in general were not helpful or caring, the noise is so bad you cant sleep so all in all the worst hotel i've ever stayed in.... don’t book the Scarborough St Nicholas Travelodge!

Had a one night stay here, room was clean but a little outdated the building was also a bit old and different from your usual purpose built travelodge but staff were friendly and informative. We had a seaview room at a bargain price. Not 4 star luxury but for a one night stay was excellent value for money.
One of the stairways was suffering from a serious damp problem within the walls. Wonderfull view from room 424 photographed.
This hotel is in the town so parking near is quite difficult, 24 hrs use of the local NCP is discounted at £7:50.
I noticed staff doing extra cleaning to door handles, lift controls etc... So they are doing thier best under the current coronavirus circumstances.
Thank you to the Scarbourough travelodge team.

Having already been to this travelodge twice this year alone and this being the third (crazy when thinking it has only been open for a short amount of time this year) we knew what we were entering too. A hotel that seriously needs attention by Travelodge. The staff however fantastic as always, I think me and my partner now know all front of house/bar staff and even Tim remembered us from January which was great. Every member of staff working during our time here was great even with a 5am fire alarm on a Monday morning. We still managed to all socially distance from everyone else outside which during this day and age is great. The guidelines the hotel have in place post lockdown make you feel safe too. Great place to come during this time.

The rooms we’ve now been in on the 3rd floor, 4th floor and one of the rooms on the 5th level/mezzanine type floor have had a clean presence to them. Yes they are outdated rooms compared to some other Travelodges but for an old building they still gave us a great night sleep minus being woken at 5am from an alarm that in our room was too quiet for me anyway. The shower head was also pulled out from the wall and the hand soap and shower gel/ shampoo were switched around. We told the staff about this so they could log it and fix after our stay which i recommend everyone doing otherwise how can they improve and fix things if they don’t know?

Anyway Brian, Tim, Amy and all the other staff we didn’t quite catch the names of during our stay were fab and all assets to the company and the hotel! Thank you and we will probably see you all again sometime this year!

Having stayed at several places during previous short stays in Scarborough, we found this hotel to be by far the best value for money and was an excellent location for the town centre and walk down to the seafront. The bedroom was basic (as per other Travelodges) but was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. We stayed for a couple of nights midweek, so it was relatively quiet which suited us fine. The reception staff were all friendly and helpful.

We stayed at this hotel from 02/10 to the 04/10. On arrival I asked where we could park, I was told to park at the front of the Palm Court Hotel we was told we needed to purchase a red parking permit. I payed £5.00 for the parking permit and I parked where I was instructed and placed it in the windscreen. We then went upto our room. Upon inspection the toilet was dirty and we complained. To be fair this was dealt with swiftly and we was given a different room and it had a partial sea view, and all was well.

The next day I needed to get some boots out of my car, and I had a parking fine attached to the windscreen. I was furious as I had paid parking and parked as instructed. I complained to the manager and she informed me that the receptionist had only been there a week and she had advised use incorrectly. I was told that she would give us a voucher for the cost of the fine and that is the best she could do.

Later that day we returned to our room and the manger said I have just found out that you had to be re-roomed due to cleanliness; she said due to our experience there we could stay for free, and we would receive a voucher for the total cost, but it would take a while.

We never received any voucher for the visit and despite informing the company of our experience we have received nothing, neither an oppolgy or any financial return for the service or the cost of the parking fine.

Called several weeks before staying to ask for a specific room that we have stayed in several times before, they where kind enough to ensure we got that room - but it was around 4.30 before we got the keys as it was late being "cleaned" , that is where my first issue becomes clear, there was a dirty pint glass left under the bed, despite leaving the Please Service Room notice on the door every morning the pint glass was still there 3 days later, plus we had to go and request more toilet roll as that was never replenished. I should probably add that we where offered an alternative room due to the late cleaning but it was very close to the lift and a fire door that would have been a disturbance, so rejected the alternative.

The staff are mostly helpful and friendly, apart from one receptionist who, when there was a fault with the north end lift watched as we made our way to the other lift, which was also not working and only pointed that out after we had discovered this ourselves, when we asked if she had any idea how long it would be before being fixed as my wife is a blue badge holder and would not be able to climb three flights of stairs, she suggested using the other stairs, very helpful.

Breakfast and service to a good standard.

Overall the place could do with some attention to smarten the interior a bit, a bit more attention from the housekeeping staff would help.

One last thing, please go back to Nescafe, much nicer than the bitter beverage you supply now.

We have been going to this Travelodge for many years and sadly this time I felt as if standards had reached rock bottom. I was expecting the hotel would have taken time to deep clean, sadly this wasn't the case. They have obviously simple locked the doors and left it for months until the reopening last Monday 6th July. The dust, mould and dirt was still there to greet us. We knew it would be room only with no services so I went well prepared with cleaning products and wipes. I could have cleaned all day but didn't want to as it was a holiday so I wiped and sprayed the key areas. The overflow in the bath and the plug were filthy, these should be cleaned routinely. I sprayed and soaked the plug and overflows beached the toilet. The black scum in the plug melted away and the black grime from the overflow flooded out but why was it necessary in the first place? Even the mattress wasn't up to Travel Lodge's usual standard leaving me with backache after two nights.
I've always waxed lyrical about Travel Lodges, so it's with sadness that I write this, it's a great location, pleasant staff etc but basic cleanliness is easy. I know it's an old Georgian building, I know it's very affordable but we all deserve a good level of cleanliness when we stay in a hotel.
I'd like to think that this review would make a difference. Thank you for reading it.
