Staff were very very welcoming, rooms were clean, bed was clean, shower was hot. Nothing else I could ask for.Chrissy was absolutely exceptional in her service, she really deserves recognition for her efforts towards customers!
We have stayed at this particular Travelodge on many occasions and have always found the staff to be most welcoming and the rooms lovely and clean. This time it was business as usual on arrival, with a great friendly check-in and spotless bedroom. The only minor gripes were the toilet flush handle in the en-suite shower room was loose and the toilet seat didn’t stay up – tiny things we could put up with it for a one night stay, but both things should have been noticed by the housekeeping team.
This time we stayed in a room on the ground floor. At about one o’clock in the morning there was a peculiar gurgly-yelping noise coming from the room above and a woman started to scream and then cry. Loud stamping thuds on the floor above our room followed. The cacophony of sound was akin to the occupants giving their pet elephant trampoline lessons whilst strangling a turkey (apparently pets are allowed in the rooms). It must have been a rather horrifying scene upstairs though, judging by the woman’s intermittent muffled screams that continued into the early hours. At one point we were wondering if we were going to see the boys in blue surround the building.
In what can only be described as bizarre behaviour by another guest, at three o’clock in the morning, another noise started up in the room next door. That noise sounded like nails being hammered into the wall.
It was all quite unnerving and it did keep us both awake but we decided to ride out this storm. This was mainly because, after a long tiring day, we didn’t want to cause a scene or confront whoever was causing the disturbance. Neither did we want to have to get out of bed, get dressed and go along to reception to complain, as we didn’t relish the prospect of then having to re-pack our suitcases in the early hours of the morning and move room.
We stayed at the Travelodge just over a week before Halloween, but thankfully this spooky horror audio show wasn’t laid on by the hotel management, it was simply disrespectfully provided by some particularly noisy guests. The ladies on reception were most concerned when we mentioned the disturbances to them just before we left the next morning. They said they would check out the room above ours to make sure nothing untoward had gone on (they also made a maintenance note about the toilet flush handle).
Another thing that affected our sleep quality was the traffic on the busy Chester Road that unfortunately thundered past the building for most of the night. Being located on the ground floor the room was more exposed to it. We have always had rooms either upstairs or on the other side of the building before (which overlook the car park rather than the road), so they could probably do with better sound insulation on the Chester Road side of the building.
We will more than likely stay here again as it is conveniently located with lovely staff, a great Toby Carvery adjacent and it has a leisurely midday check-out. But I guess the lesson we learned on this occasion is always have a room on the first floor that overlooks the car park.
Stayed here before and the rooms are always clean and tidy. It’s very handy as it right next door to a pub with food served there. It’s in a good location near to Sutton Coldfield town centre which is a short taxi ride away.
The Receptionist was friendly and extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was basic, but very clean and the beds really comfortable. No bath in the bathroom, but a decent walk in shower which had good water pressure. The only down side was the usual problem with a lot of modern buildings....poor sound insulation between rooms. The family next door were quite vocal and it did sometimes feel like they were in the same room as they chatted loudly and made several phone calls. That aside, we enjoyed our stay and the room was comfortable. Our evening meal in the Toby Carvery was great value for money. The staff were friendly and efficient. We would be happy to stay there again.
We have stayed at this hotel 4 times as it not only is conveniently placed to visit our family, it is clean, the staff are very polite and helpful. The bed is also very comfortable and the rooms are a good size. It is also very reasonably priced.
