#1 of 18 hotels in Ipswich
Travellers' Choice
This artfully designed boutique Hotel and Restaurant in Suffolk reflects luxury and dazzles in the waterfront of Ipswich's vibrant Harbour quayside at night. The Salthouse Harbour Hotel goes beyond what you expect and exudes its 4 star status in every curious corner, eccentric sofa and unstuffy cushion. The sea-salted brickwork exterior has been restored & rejuvenated into a ship shape contemporary warehouse of rich modern interiors and rooms adorned with vintage furniture, sculptures and eclectic art. Within its comfy chic decor, although the mood is friendly and relaxed, the staff are professionally attentive to your every need. The cuisine is exciting and the popularity of the Salthouse Eaterie fills this delightful waterfront restaurant as soon as the tables are laid.

What a great hotel to stay for a few days. We couldn’t fault anything. The staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. The room was nice and the bed comfortable; I can’t sleep with a feather pillow but that wasn’t an issue as they soon gave me an alternative. The restaurant was great at breakfast and dinner. I had a health issue and therefore couldn’t tolerate a lot of food but the chef produced a special meal for me which was really nice. Thank you again for taking the time. I really appreciate it as it must be a nuisance. The hotel had a great ambience in the evening and nice and busy at times. The harbour was a lovely setting too and the town of Ipswich a short walk away. We wouldn’t hesitate returning.

I truly enjoyed my stay here. The hotel is in the most ideal location and if you’re lucky enough to get a room with a view of the marina you’ll love it even more. The room was lovely with gorgeous decor (love the mugs) and all the amenities you could want. Breakfast was superb. The staff went out of their way to give us a vegetarian alternative to a fry up and they did not bat an eyelid to our fussiness. I wish I had gotten our waiter’s name as he was so helpful and friendly. The food was delicious and well presented. All in all a fantastic stay. Considering that Ipswich does not have too much to offer, a stay in this hotel alone makes up for it.

We booked a over night stay and loved every minute. The check in was quick and easy. Staff were most helpful. The room was a great size, beautifully clean, looking out over the harbour. Copper Bath and walk in shower too, both with excellent water pressure and lots of hot water. The room was extremely quiet and comfortable. We are in the restaurant that night and food was excellent. The staff were so helpful especially when discussing allergies and the menu. They went above and beyond to make our evening enjoyable. Food was fresh, hot and really good quality. Cocktails were great too. Wonderful three course meal and great service. Breakfast was also very good and again service was excellent.

The hotel in general is lovely, but the bathroom designer is crazy. A toilet, which is not much more than a foot above the floor, is unbelievable. How is someone expected to stand up again? Perhaps I'm too old to stay at this hotel! On the first night we were directed by a staff member to park our car in a particular spot. On the second night we were told that we couldn't park in that spot (other spaces were full) because it was for a blue badge holder. so we had to go to another car park "3 minutes away". It actually took about 20 minutes in the tortuous Ipswich one-way system. When we walked back to the hotel, another car (non-blue badge) was put into the space which we were denied.

The staff at this hotel are so very attentive and helped make our few days away so much more pleasurable. The food in the restaurant both breakfast and dinner was delicious and good value for money. Our room overlooking the quay was perfect with a lovely Juliet balcony and due to weather being so lovely we had wonderful views. Shame that Ipswich itself does not offer much as a town but if want to just relax and enjoy a book and good food and drink then it’s perfect.
