This is my second review of this hotel, the first back in 2019 was excellent. I'm an IHG Spire Elite member and I've stayed at this hotel over 30 times pre covid and never had any issues. Unfortunately my recent two night stay was not a nice experience. The check was like checking into a boot camp, no friendly chat and the guy couldn't wait to get rid of you. I even had to ask for the bonus points for being an IHG member. Then i was given a room furthest away from reception when my profile clearly states closest to reception. I was so angry and when i came back to reception queued up and the guy moved me to a closer room. Not something i want to do when you're tired after a long drive. I went for a drink and heard a lady complaining about the food, when i had a look I didn't blame her, it looked terrible. Put me right off and i ordered a take away. Breakfast experience was not any better, there was a young chap who asked for my name and when i told me, he questioned me if i was really who i said i was. Then the food was terrible the pastries were stale and tough. I've uploaded a photo of beans that were on the hot plate for people to help themselves. I'm sure everyone will agree they don't look very appetising. Why serve them on a plate? Because I've stayed here many times it's so sad seeing the service deteriorate so much.

Booked the Holiday Inn for my daughter, baby grandson and myself sharing a room together. Check in service from the male receptionist to be fair was good and we received a complimentary sheet for our travel cot which was very good. Having got to the room the key card was not working which was very frustrating as we were tired and with a baby we just wanted to get in to the room and relax. We continued to have problems with the door lock during our stay and were told that this is a recurrent issue which must be very frustrating for staff and guests alike. Room was dated. Beds not overly comfortable. No fitted sheet on the bed so mattress was showing which was not great. Bathroom nice but extremely small and no bath. Gap under the door in the bedroom so noise could be heard by people in the corridor. Breakfast was a big disappointment. Stale chocolate croissants. Poor service from staff. Felt we were in a canteen not a 4* hotel!! It's been a few years since I stayed in a holiday inn in as I usually stay premier inn as a frequent business traveller but wanted to see what it was like. An experience never to be repeated! Avoid this hotel. It is not what I would expect for a 4*hotel and paying £100 for the room was a rip off.

Really a hotel to avoid. Booked on a bed, breakfast & evening meal basis and regretted every minute of it. The bed room is ensuite but the toilet/shower room is tiny. You have to straddle the toilet to close the door and only then can you access the shower, unbelievably poor design. Lots of noise in the corridors particularly as contractors depart their rooms at 6am and need to slam doors to engage the latch. The restaurant is more a cafeteria with no meal service in the evenings, you order at the bar off the main foyer or eat in the bar area. The inclusive menu is atrocious and very limited compared to the main menu. However when it comes to food quality, its poor. First night meal was cold (noticed others also complaining of same issue), second nights was warm. However, do bring a thick book, you’ll need it to while away the 50 plus min wait for food once ordered.

My mum had her wedding here and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. The wedding team and normal staff provided my mum with the perfect day and took all her needs into account. They transformed a room into such a beautiful layout. I stayed here for two nights and the room was quiet, clean and large. The hotel also has some lovely extra features like a pool, but I was too hungover to use unfortunately.

The beds are so uncomfortable I hardly slept and was in pain when I woke up. There is no air conditioning in the room so was hot and humid from the shower as the fan in the bathroom didn’t work. The bathroom is tiny and you can’t close the door because there is zero place to stand. I’m of average build, so anyone bigger size perhaps book a disabled room otherwise you won’t be able to use the bathrooms here. The breakfast service was absolute chaos and the “spa” and pool are run by the council with screaming children having lessons, so not a relaxing environment to be in unless your a white middle class mum with a toddler. I stayed for 6 nights with this and the hot tub didn’t work for most of my visits. They also had one set of steps into the pool as the other was roped off out of action. Hotel guests were limited to one section or the pool regardless of if you wanted to do lanes swimming or relax - it’s not a very big pool, so got quite congested if more than 2 people where using it for swimming. I wouldn’t advise staying here in the slightest. Next time I’m going to stay at the premier inn which is cheaper and pay for a weeks membership at a nice gym or pool. I’d save money and feel much more relaxed.
