This place felt like home for us and we really enjoyed our short stay here. The room was very pretty and also incredibly quiet. The bed was too comfortable and our sleep was heavenly. The bluetooth speaker is nice little amenity to the room that enhanced our experience. The sauna is perfect and had amazing value for money. The breakfast was spot on and although the selection wasn’t extensive, we were satisfied with the value and the quality of the offer. The location is perfect, not too far away from city center and it’s located in a quiet area, which is always preferable to escape the city noise. Highly recommend!

The Hotel for stays in the west side of Oslo, only 10 min walk to Vigelandsparken, 3 min to Aker Brygge. Well assorted breakfast with organic and vegan options as well as traditional options. Professional and friendly personal. Steamroom and sauna, spa facilities every day. I’ll be back soon.

We had a really lovely stay at the Oslo Guldsmeden. The hotel is situated in a quite area just a few minutes walk from the station and Aker Brygge We booked directly with the hotel and selected a double double room which can be two doubles next to each other or opposite. I had emailed ahead and asked for interconnecting rooms and was delighted to find the hotel had accommodated our request. We were greeted warmly on arrival. Our room was not yet made up as we arrived a little early but we were told we were welcome to use the lounge area and help ourselves to the free coffee. This was very welcome after our early morning flight.

Our room was lovely, with those special Scandanavian hygge touches that instantly make you feel at home. It was great to see that sustainability was important to the hotel. We were given one towel each (any more and you can become quite complacent about the planet and use them all) and there were lots of lovely eco-friendly toiletries and little extras. I loved them so much that I'm going to buy some now I'm back in the UK. We all slept very well in the beds and the room was always at the perfect temperature. There are heaters in the room that you can control if you feel a little chilly, however.

Some previous reviews have mentioned the showers can be problematic. No problems here! You just need to make sure the shower curtain is closed and that you don't throw your arms around like an octopus while you shower. Do that and the water will stay where it's supposed to be. :)

The sauna in the hotel is well worth a trip too. You will have the entire spa to yourself - we used the spa bath, the steam room, and the sauna. After a long day of sightseeing, it was heavenly to have an hour to ourselves to relax and then finish the whole experience with some of the gorgeous orange body oil that is supplied.

We didn't have breakfast at the hotel but it did look amazing with lots of organic produce on offer.

All in all, the hotel was an amazing addition to our carefully planned trip and we would definitely come back when we are next in Oslo.

This is the last time we will visit Hotel Guldsmedens properties, the Hotel in OSLO is a window dressed nondescript building, the facilities are generally nice looking on photos, but in reality, all the furniture is cheap Bali type bamboo that feels shabby, applied to an old building that has been renovated in the cheapest way to make the environment seem nicer than it is. The bathrooms are tiny and old and the amenities sorely lacking ,and not up to modern hotel standards, heaters weren't on in our room, not even a mini-fridge, bottle of water or glasses, just one carton cup in a room for 2 placed right above the toilet!
Water or tea only available in the lobby at 35 kr , although there was off course no hot water available becuase the place is under staffed with just one person in the lobby.
The bathroom was old and mouldy with both black mould on the sink and red mould on the floor.
Finally, breakfast was taken away right in front of our noses by kitchen staff whom were arrogant and couldn't even be bothered to communicate that they were closing early, although we had been informed in the lobby that breakfast was being served.
Staff started discussing amongst themselves and whining about the fact that we had been seated rather than offer an apology or try to solve the situation, it seems that in this place its more about the employee's feelings than the customers, unbelievable!

We were then offered free breakfast as a compensation, but by then most of the food was gone and whatever had been there was really not that nice to begin with, at 230 Kroner it was a pathetic breakfast lineup with stale bread, lukewarm drip coffee, badly cooked eggs, juice etc. We left to find breakfast elsewhere and felt like we had stayed in a place with teenage level management, so wouldn't recommend breakfast at Hotel Guldsmeden in any case, and only to stay in the hotel if you are seeking a low-cost room - make sure to ask for a room in a higher floor as the road noise is quite audible due to the old building without insolation.

This hotel is understaffed, with young people, and no management, a window dressed 2 star hotel in reality.

Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to write your review. I am very sorry that we were clearly not a match for you on this occasion as we always try to do our best to make our guests feel comfortable and “at home” with us. When visiting us clearly there must have been some mistakes in the communication with you that we can learn from. I hope you can see from the many other very complimentary and positive reviews on the breakfast and the hotel itself this is the exception and not the norm. When it comes to our breakfast, it closes at 10am on weekdays and 11am on weekends. Having spoken with the team and sharing your review with them, I believe our receptionist mistakenly sent you through without checking the time and since it was 10:20 nearly everything was packed away but I understand if you were judging the breakfast by the leftovers half an hour after it was closed that you could easily reach that conclusion. I also understand you were immediately refunded and offered to help yourself to the few items remaining on the buffet. I would absolutely welcome you to come back to try our organic signature breakfast on the house during opening hours for a much-improved experience. I have to be honest and say I find your criticism of the style of the hotel a little harsh as we clearly brand ourselves as an eco-friendly, sustainable boutique hotel with a price point to match and a green globe certification to match that too... and one would expect in a sustainable property perhaps to find a lot of bamboo which is one of the most sustainable types of wood there is. We have many different room types and price points from economy rooms to doubles, superior rooms and suites, and the discolouration in the sink in the family room you had I can assure you is not mould but discoloration of the natural stone which was picked up very clearly in your flash photo. I agree however that this is not cosmetically acceptable and have ordered a new sink and we will replace this as soon as it arrives with us from Bali. Again, I thank you for your comments, and still hope we will get a second chance to prove that our concept is good both when it comes to service and price. If you would like to each out to me personally please feel free to contact me directly on email christian@guldsmedenhotels.com

Nice location in a fairly quiet road near a large park. The 12/13 trams go from Stolli a short walk up the hill, walkable from the National Theatre stop for the R11 train to the main airport - airport express train is expensive and pointless. There are lots of restaurants and a Coop Mega nearby on the Frognerveien road.

The cleaning isn't up to the typical high standard in hotels. The bathroom was far from spotless and there were two mystery brown cubes (dog biscuits?) on the rug.

The single rooms are a reasonable size. However, the en-suite bathroom has a small sink and eventually you'll realise this is annoyingly small. Oddly, the shower is spacious. Losing 20cm off the shower and having a bigger basin would have made more sense for single rooms.

The window in my room would not close as it had faulty hinges. I asked about this on the 2nd day and got moved on the 3rd day. Apparently this is a known issue. The second room had a floppy door handle. It didn't affect the door but there are numerous, small, obvious maintenance issues at this hotel. The shower in the second room had low pressure, wild temperature variations and tricky taps to counter that.

It would be nice to have glasses in the room. There are two paper cups. That seems odd given a vague eco theme. Bath mats would be useful too.

No air conditioning but given Oslo isn't that hot this wasn't a problem at all in summer. Free coffee (but not tea!) in the lobby. Friendly, helpful staff with excellent English.

This place has changed management sadly! I was overcharged by $140 the day before i checked in. ~ i paid for a supposed double room and was given the tiniest single room. The bed was hard as a rock. And a very small twin that was horrible to sleep on. The street noise and screaming from children hard to relax to the excessive noises coming from cars and trucks as well! The toilet in bathroom is half under sink and i am not a big person but if you were you could not fit. Most uncomfortable bathroom shower with minimal shower curtain put water everywhere (soaking wet toilet paper) not a joke!!! Shower dirty as well. Being overcharged for a room that i did not get because the militant receptionist she said “ sorry” thats the only room, (fully booked) (my reservation was made months before arrival) offered me no money back. Tried to charge me for a late check out after 2 miserable nights in this tiny noisy box room. Breakfast has changed not Babbo any longer, now its gross, and they charge extra on top of room for garbage looking food. Horrible stay.

After probably at least 8 times staying at Guldsmelden since Jan 2019. This was the worst! Obviously management changed and rude reception was sadly unexpected and she gave me a horrible room. Overcharged for what a horrible room i was given $309 For 2 nights¿ food was despicable and trying to charge for garbage food that i saw on display. Apparently Babbo was smart to leave! Their food was what made Guldsmeden.
Now it’s embarrassing. Lobby not as comfortable. Cool vibe is GONE & people working there are rude and militant! Street room i was given was excessively noisy.
Sadly i will not come back. As Guldsmelden has completely LOST its charm and employees and Vibe that once made it a cool place to stay

This hotel is located within easy walking distance of Oslos’s principal sights. If you favor transportation, there is a bus line that passes the hotel.
Our room was clean and perfect for us. We had a street view but did not hear any noises associated with urban life.
There are many restaurants located just a few blocks away or enjoy the on-site bakery or relax in the social area with a glass of wine or cold beer.
The employees with whom we interacted were very polite and there was one who spoke Spanish.
The rooms are not luxurious but practical and comfortable and well maintained. Comfortable beds and a large tv in one room and an apple computer in the other room.
I would definitely stay here again and spent a wonderful evening here.

I spent 13 days here and it was such a perfect location and an absolutely wonderful stay. The staff are all very kind and considerate. The spa is really fantastic and has a steam room, dry sauna and wet sauna and a big bathtub only for 300 NOK. The rooms are made up daily. They are not very fancy but the aren’t bear bones or cheap. The beds are really fantastic. For an affordable hotel the beds are very high class. They body products are fantastic. They give you a free comb, toothbrushes and razors. You can walk to the marina nearby and there is great shopping. Try the Indian restaurant 5 minutes away — Listen to Balajit. Best Indian food I have ever had. Also, the hotel has a restaurant called Babbo that is AMAZING. You won’t want to miss the hotel breakfast. The coffee is really good. And, weekend brunch is not to be missed. You will love this place. Free internet too and it’s fast! Also, there is a grocery store right around the corner. Enjoy!!

Great boutique hotel in a fabulous location! The room was quaint but so charming. Comfortable bed and such a friendly, helpful staff. Just a 5 minute walk to the Royal Palace and also, 5 minutes the opposite direction was the popular Aker Brygge area. We enjoyed strolling this area of great restaurants and a beautiful atmosphere. Also not too much further is the Akershus Fortress, followed by the stunning Oslo Opera House and Munch museum. This hotel is also near the National Theater train station so getting around to other areas was quite easy! There’s also a great restaurant connected to the hotel. We enjoyed their breakfast so much! Highly recommend this hotel.

Hello and thank you for your review and kind words about our organic breakfast. Sadly organic food costs are extremely high in Norway but we do our best to keep the price as realistic as possible and are pleased you enjoyed the selection. I am sorry that the noise disturbed you during the stay. There was some work underway during the daytime during your stay I believe. We look forward to welcoming you again soon!

You would be very lucky if you see northern lights from a city. You need to be further north were the city lights do not interfere. To have a better chance to se the Northern lights you need to go to the northern part of Norway. Oslo Guldsmeden is a delightful small hotel and it is centrally located. It is located about 10 minutes walk from Aker Brygge where there are lots of great restaurants, shops, and the ferries to Bygdø and the Kon-Tiki Museum, Fram, Folk Museum and the Viking Ships Museum.

Hi yes, its very easy - take the Flytoget express train to the National Theatre staion and take the Parkveien exit (not the National Theatre exit) cross over the roundabout road towards the Allkopi and walk down Parkveien road down to the hotel. Its a smaller road opposite the station exit. you pass the Scandic hotel and a school playground and then its on your right. Have fun!
