My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and loved this hotel. The location is ideal for arriving on the train, for shopping and dining along Karl Johan’s Gate, and for getting around the city. We arrived on the train from Bergen and just walked across the street to the hotel. We hired bicycles and a guide to show us around Oslo and the bike rental was in the bottom of the train station so it was just across the street. When we left Oslo we took the overnight ferry to Copenhagen and it was a short distance away. Many restaurants and sights were within walking distance.
Our room was very comfortable and had a nice view of the busy front street. It was the only hotel on our Scandinavian trip that had just one duvet on the king bed and it really didn’t fit the bed very well so we found that we were not warm enough as we both fought for the cover through the night (and it was cool and wet outside). So the next morning I asked our housekeeper if we could have 2 single duvets on the king bed and she was so nice and provided them and we slept so well after that. All of the hotel staff are so nice and service is excellent. We thought that Peter on the front desk was the best front desk person we have ever dealt with at any hotel ever. He has lots of personality, is so welcoming, and goes out of his way to solve any problems.
The breakfast is excellent and the two rooms where you can sit to eat are lovely. We went back to the restaurant for dinner one night and it was a very positive experience.
If we ever get back to Oslo this is where we will stay and we recommend this hotel to anyone going to Oslo.

This hotel offers amazing service from the moment you arrive. Very welcoming and service-minded staff.
The interior is a mix between modern and old, and every room you walk into looks fantastic.
The room was clean and had a lovely bed. The rooms are also very well isolated, we barely heard the tram as it passed by which was a major plus.
Even though the buffet was closed because of Corona the breakfast was very good with loads of things to choose from. The waitress was very attentive and kept checking that we had everything we needed.
Would stay here again!

My wife and I choose Norway to spend my birthday and Oslo was our first stop. Amerikalinjen was our hotel and we couldn't be more happy with the choice. From the first moment we contact them to the moment we left, all touch point wore flawless . The staff is extremely helpful and go over and beyond to guarantee that you have the most marvelous experience. Luana Soares, the Guest Relations Manager, was incredible warm and helpful from the first e-mails we exchange to the attention and care when we arrive.
The rooms looks amazing, and the hotel decor has a mix of heritage and modern touch, giving it a very cool and charming flair.
The breakfast is really good . Worth wake up early and spend some time in thare. The hotel bar is also worth a visit . They have craft some amazing cocktails
The location is the the best possible and getting to the hotel from the airport is ridiculously easy . Arriving in the central station you just cross the street and has arrive. If we go back to Oslo we will definitely stay there again

Already at the reception, I was recognized as a treasured member of the chain. The receptionist was multi-lingual, so the welcoming process included English and French, and a bit of Norwegian. The conference room was well lit, well furnished, however, slightly chilly due to the air conditioning. The food was tasty and it looked fresh and colourful. Both sweet and healthy snacks were served. During the evening dinner, I was lucky to bes served by a skillful waitress. She served well and always accompanied by a smile. She paid well attention to any requests me and my colleagues had. I was lucky to get an upgraded room. The bathroom was almost formed as a cave, quite useful for this and that. I recommend a stay here.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Amerikalinjen and would select this hotel again when in Oslo. All staff were very friendly and gave helpful information. Breakfast was delicious, so were the cocktails at “Pier 42”. Location is perfect, directly across the central station, and most points of interests are easily reachable on foot or public transport. Two points prevented me from giving a rating of 5: The rooms are on the small side, with very little storage available. Our Superior room should have been around 20 m2 but felt considerably smaller due to the design. If you enjoy spending some time in the room, I highly recommend going for the Deluxe rooms or even suites. Then the hotel bar “Pier 42” is very popular amongst external guests, which is per se a good sign, but would be nice if hotel guests at least could jump the queue.

The Thursday jazz was unbelievable. Could not be topped outside the US.

Breakfast was likewise unbelievable. A very small buffet in comparison to most other top hotels, but containing everything you may wish for, in small, frequently changed plates and bowls. All organic. A wide offer of newspapers (also in the unassuming lobby). And guests from outside, maybe the strongest indicator of quality.

The room had a very comfortable mattress, and its limited space did not disturbe.

The almost unbelievable friendliness and sparkling mood of all employees was maybe the most positively striking fact. Not at all less familiar than Beau Rivage in Geneva, an old, family owned hotel. Amerikalinjen has just existed for one year.

We had 4 nights at this hotel and truly loved our stay here. The staff whether they were from reception, at breakfast or housekeeping just couldn’t do enough for its guests and made us feel most welcomed. From the time we walked in, Jelena was all smiles and was happy to suggest places for dinner and then followed up with making the reservations for us. When we returned for the second leg of our stay, she was at reception and welcomed us by name as if we were her long lost friends! Her colleagues at reception took time to give directions to the places we wanted to visit. Housekeeping was outstanding in that its staff took the extra step to track down some sachets of Breakfast Tea for us although the herbal infusions were the norm at this hotel. We enjoyed the buffet spread at breakfast which was varied and generously laid out. The extra offers of eggs Benedict or omelettes made to order were a lovely touch which we appreciated. Even the small things like having power outlets for charging phones at eye level and conveniently located next to the bedside tables made our stay special. This hotel is definitely well located as to be within a short distance of the Oslo Central Station and also the iconic places like the Opera House and Munch Museum. Buses and trams ply the routes just outside the hotel and the metro is but a stone’s throw so getting around was really easy. We thank the staff for our stay here for the start and at the end of our trip to Norway. A lovely way to finish an awesome 4 week holiday.

I read on another review that it is hard to find anything negative about his hotel and I totally agree. Right from the time of arrival, staff were friendly, the hotel was just stunning, beautiful design and style, everything was clean and tidy. We got a love vegan sorbet on check in which was a nice surprise after an early start and although we were very early arriving and our room wasn’t ready, we were able to leave our luggage and go for a wander. If I had a question for reception, each person was friendly, genuine and made you feel like your question was important. Our room was on the 5th floor at the front, centre to the front of the building (501). Clearly a new refurbishment, the small luxurious touches were great: lighting options in the room and bathroom, surround sound, ability to stream music and films from your device, umbrella, slippers, big ‘mini’ bar, great coffee machine, fresh bowl of fruit and cakes on arrival, lovely smelling Sparkenhus toiletries, fantastic shower, comfy bed, perfect room temperature throughout, great decor, spotlessly clean. Being on the front facing the squad below, we couldn’t hear the noise unless the window was open. There’s secondary glazing to help with that but we often had them both open. Booking for breakfast was a great idea. On the weekdays the hotel was busy with more business people and breakfast was always busy (we booked at 8am each day). The hotel had more tourists staying at the weekend. Breakfast was full of choices, both hot and cold options, plus a menu of freshly cooked items. The busier it gets, sometimes the staff weren’t as friendly but it was definitely more relaxed and friendlier on a Saturday morning when things were a little quieter! I wish we had explored the hotel more but as this was our first time in Oslo we were out exploring in the day and relaxing in the evening. However I really hope we will return to the Amerikalinjen again!

This former Amerikalinjen's headquarter has been converted into a stylish boutique hotel. The location is very central next to the Oslo Central railway station.

Last summer we stayed in a deluxe room on the 5th floor. Now we booked the best Triton suite (50 sqm). It is located on the 4th floor. It has a balcony but at least in the summertime, the trees are covering the Opera view.

The room has modern decor although the building has still much of the old character left.

The breakfast was excellent. Everything was brought to the table.

Our stay had a good value for a summer sale (-40%) price of 450 euros. However, for a normal price, I would choose a deluxe room again. They can also be booked with a balcony (6th floor).

Hi, The hotel is approximately 1600 meters from the cruise port. Theres no shuttle that I know of. The best way is walking and public trasport. It is a 9 min walk to the Kontraskjæret stop near the townhall for the tram no. 12 (Kjelsås) that stops near the hotel. Or an 8 min walk to no 60 at Vippetangen stop to Jernbanetorget Walking all the way will take about 20 min. Good luck and enjoy your trip:)
