This hotel is superbly located on the river , a short walk to all the attractions & the christmas markets. Our room was nicely decorated & very comfortable , though overall cleaning & vacuuming could be improved with more attention to detail (or else they should provide a reminder to all guests to check if they have left anything under the bed before leaving) The staff on reception were very pleasant & helpful. It is very convenient having the restaurant on the rooftop especially on a cold night, & we thoroughly enjoyed our meal & pre dinner drink, the staff in the restaurant were friendly & pleasant also. Views from the rooftop are delightful. Overall a great stay.

We stayed here for a week. Great location close to everything with wonderful views of the old town, fortress and river. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our room on the 5th floor had a beautiful view across the river to the old town including the fortress. The room (described as a junior suite) was quite spacious with a huge bed, a desk, sitting area for two, fridge stocked with complimentary non alcoholic drinks, kettle and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was more than adequate with large walk-in shower, a range of toiletries, soft towels and plenty of space for our things (no bath). Breakfast is served in the rooftop restaurant where the views are spectacular although you need to reserve a breakfast table if you want the best seats in the house. At night, the terrace restaurant was crowded and noisy (it is a popular choice for external guests) so we ate elsewhere. It also stopped serving food at 9.30 which we thought early but we would definitely stay here again. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.

I made a mistake when booking this hotel, booking 3 nights instead of 4, average £200 per night. I tried to add another night but none of the agencies seemed to have any availability. I contacted the hotel direct to be told that no-one was on reservations, and to go to the website! This I did and paid 418 euros for one night, for what I think was a "junior suite" There was tea & coffee maker in the room, but no milk! I had to ask twice for some to be brought up! The next morning we found an item of ladies underwear on the bathroom floor. It hadn't been noticed before as the floor was dark. The outside window on the balcony would only open about 5cm, (this was not a safety feature, the handle caught against the inner door, which would not open!) Breakfast (buffet) no mention of any cooked food, was in my opinion overpriced at 33 euros, even with a prepaid price of 27 euros was still over the top for what it was. We chose the a la carte option which was reasonable value, and nicely cooked. Must praise one of the waiters, Andre I believe who went out of his way to make sure we were well looked after at breakfast. Towel rail, because the shower leaked all over the floor, some of our clothes got wet, we put them on the towel rail to dry, it's not working, I'm not a plumber but I know when a sticky thermostat needle is causing a problem. When I reported this I was not that the towel rail was not adjustable (I guess that was their way of saying there are 2 positions - off & off) I reported it a second day, even offering to fix it myself if they could get me pliers and a can of WD 40! It was still not working when we left. The staff were OK but when I raised these issues on leaving I was just told I'm sorry! One other member of staff worthy of mention was Otman(?) on of the concierge/porters, very helpful & pleasant. Poor value for £200 a night, never mind the £400 I paid for the first night!

Dear David, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about the inconveniences you experienced during your stay. Regarding the window, please note that it is designed to open only partially for safety reasons. We understand this might have been inconvenient and appreciate your understanding. As for the towel rail in the bathroom, it is programmed to be operational only during certain times to ensure energy efficiency. It is typically activated in the morning and evening. We regret that this did not meet your expectations and we already reviewed our communication about this feature to avoid future confusion. We appreciate your comments about the staff, particularly Andre and Otman, and are glad that you enjoyed the a la carte breakfast. Your feedback is invaluable as we strive to improve our services. We hope you might consider staying with us again and giving us the opportunity to provide a better experience. Best regards, Hotel Stein & Living Team

Apart from the location the hotel is very poor. No atmosphere (we visited at Christmas)
The room I had was cold and the bathroom rad would not heat up. My room was also extremely small. We were told this was because it is an old building and the heating cannot be changed in each individual room. The room was at the back of the hotel and before 05.00 am was very noisy. The staff in reception and breakfast restaurant very surly.
The staff in the roof top bar in the evening were excellent as was the concierge.
Breakfast again was a massive disappointment - no hot food unless you paid extra (not even a toaster) definitely poor value.
I would not recommend and not stay again.

Beautiful hotel, great location with a magnificent rooftop restaurant and bar. The hotel has a luxurious feeling and you are welcomed with a glass of champagne when you arrive. However the rating for this hotel really goes down due to poor service in the restaurant and rude staff serving breakfast for 29 € per person. The quality and selection of the food at breakfast was like a 2 star hotel.

We arrived into Salzburg by train and was looking dorward to checking into Stein given the great reviews.

The check in was OK. The room was spacious clean and bathroom was great. Wanted to highlight that AC was not available as hotel staff said its winter season (it's only mid Oct now and we're puzzled). The first night did not get good sleep due to the excessive noise coming up from the street bars pubs on the ground floor going past mid night. (We had to open room window for air since AC was not working and no circulation in the room). Thank God the second was quieter and we could get good sleep. (We hear other guest also complaining about the lack of AC / noise level at the reception on our second day at the hotel).

Breakfast on the roof terrace was limited in range but the food was OK. We had orinally booked breakfast daily for our stay but cancelled after eating there once. (We felt its more flexible with food options outside). Other than lack of AC and noisy neighbours after hours, the hotel advantage is its excellent location.

I stayed at Hotel Stein as part of the American Express Fine Hotels Collection and I was blown away. I loved starting my day eating breakfast on the rooftop restaurant with amazing views. In mid December, I was happy to be comfortably inside, looking at all of the Christmas lights, but in the summer I would definitely take breakfast on the terrace. I also enjoyed wine at the hotel bar each night and was impressed by their impressive wine selection.

I was also very happy that the hotel offered wrapped gluten-free bread at breakfast. This had was a lovely surprise!

The room was incredibly comfortable, also had great views, and the location was unbeatable. When I arrived, there was a sticker on the door, indicating that it had been cleaned - see photo. I recommend Hotel Stein to anyone planning a trip to Salzburg and plan on staying there on my next trip.

Great hotel with modern design! Rooms are spot on and offer free minibar, kusmi tea and great coffee. The hotel also has an amazing roof top bar with great views over Salzburg and especially the salzburg castle. Our room also had a view on salzburg castle which was nice! All perfect on this side!

My only disappointment was breakfast. Because of Covid, there was no buffet but a fixed „menu“ for breakfast, which contained a few peaces of meat and cheese as well as a small glas with müsli and yogurt (very disappointing!). On top of that it took our breakfast plates over 30min to arrive on our first day. Service was clearly not up to the task. On our second day we got our plates quicker but other people obviously went through the same problem as we did the day before.

All in all i give a good 4 stars (would have easily given 5 if the breakfast had been better)

GREAT location. Just across the river from the main Aldstat. Great transport, restaurants and sightseeing nearby. Clean hotel. A shame the restaurant was closed just after we arrived. You'd expect a restaurant to be available in a hotel of this stature. Cracks in the bathroom, and leaks in the shower that I would expect to have been addressed prior to now a bit surprising. Our room door didn't close unless you manually pulled it closed VERY hard. Not a problem, except we came home this afternoon to find the door not locked by housekeeping. Unlocked with our personal items & my wifes phone & credit cards in the room along with my laptop. Concerning & surprising. Teabags not topped up. Coffee machine not cleaned out or topped up. Just lots of little things that didn't wreck the stay, but were a surprising omission for a hotel that should know better. None of this would necessarily stop me from staying again, but could give it no more than average as a rating if I were being honest.

A great hotel dor a business stay. Hotel Stein is located in the center of Salzburg, the city center is within easy walking distance.

Rooms are well-sized, with AC, great beds and a modern bathroom. Request to get a room facing the back of the hotel, as the street in front is very noisy even with the windows closed.

The breakfast buffett is in the restaurant at the top of the hotel, is small but has a nice selections of food and drinks. The view from the rooftop (especially in summer, when you can have a drink outside) is brilliant.

Overall, I think Hotel Stein is one of the best places to stay in Salzburg

Ignore the commenter who suggested tram number 3/6. There are no trams in Salzburg, only trolleybuses (overhead lines, but no tracks). The bus numbers suggested are from the train station, not the airport. To get to Hotel Stein from the airport by public transport, take trolleybus (O-bus) number 10 and get off at Ferdinand Hanuschplatz. Hotel Stein is then the other side of the river, just a short walk across the main bridge. Note: bus tickets are much cheaper if you buy them in advance from a tobacconist shop, there is one at the airport.
