Detailed Reviews
Very quiet in early February. Accommodation is basic but location is fabulous. Snorkelling is great. Coral reef just off the beach. Food is excellent. Kayak hire is a bonus. The owners can organise transportation from Kota Kinabalu.

Amazing experience!
Probably the most unique and beautiful places I have ever had the fortune to stay. Silk sand and crystal clear water!
Sook Peng and Fred are wonderful and kind hosts who help to ensure a brilliant stay.
They help to organize all the travel arrangements from your lodgings in Kota Kinabalu to the island via car and boat, and it all worked seamlessly.
The food that Sook Peng cooked was simply fantastic and some of the best I have had during my whole trip.
The lodge is very unique and they take their environmental responsibility very seriously.
Staying on the island is a once in a lifetime experience. It’s completely deserted apart from a small village and there are lots of different activities one can do. (Kayak, snorkel, diving, guided walks).
We did bonfires at night and spent the days in hammocks just meters from the beach as the local island cows wandered past.

We had a nice relaxing stay while recovering from a jetlag.
It is er quiet, a beautiful garden. Rooms with seaview. Everything is eco as possible.
Because of the solarpanels there is electricity without the noise of a generator.
Fred and Sook Peng are wonderfull hosts. And Sook Peng is a terrific cook.
Everything is clean and comfi.

Wonderful experience, Fred & SP perfect hosts, so lovely to dine with them each day. Lovely clean beach raked every morning. Idyllic spot. Took a kayak across to nearby island to deserted beach, for some great snorkelling. Couldn’t ask for a nicer place to stay on Pulau Mantanini.
Fred and SP will remain as a great memory for years to come.
Many thanks to Fred for his patience with our 44 emails to arrange our visit!

+1
Greenhouse Lodge is a beautiful place located on Mantanani Island: crystal clear turquoise water and a white beach. The Greenhouse lodge has a private beach, which is the best of the entire island, very clean with a lot of hammocks to relax. There is a coral reef very close to the beach, we saw many fish and a turtle. The snorkeling gear can be rented for free from the lodge, they can also organize a boat trip if you want to go further out to snorkel. Fred and Sook Peng are super friendly and helpful hosts. There is no public transport to the Island, so they organized the boat for us and picked us up and dropped us off at KK. Even when one of us got sick they went out of their way to help us. They recommended a good doctor and even took us to the clinic and helped us with the clinic procedure.
It is a very small Island, so you won't find any supermarket or restaurant there, but Greenhouse lodge serves you an excellent lunch and dinner (breakfast is included). Sook Peng is a great cook and prepared very tasty malaysian dishes for us. It is the best place to relax and enjoy the beautiful environment. The Greenhouse Lodge is an ongoing project and always developing. It tries to lead by example to slowly change the mindset of the local people towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle.

We stayed at the GreenHouse Lodge for two nights, but wish we could have stayed longer! It is such an amazing place! Facilities are new, fresh, clean and well kept! Each room has a private bathroom. The Lodge has solar power and is environmentally friendly! The beach is clean, calm and beautiful. We had the whole beach to ourselves!
Phoon & Fred were very welcoming and took great care of us! They served home cooked food for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
If you are looking for a great place to stay close to KK, and want to avoid large tourist groups, the GreenHouse Lodge is definitely worth a visit! We are already planning our next stay!

Fred and SP were lovely and very helpful. Sadly the rooms were very small and very hot. The solar batteries were not strong enough to keep the fans going through the night,so the rooms became very uncomfortable for sleep. I personally would rather have had the noise of the generator and been able to sleep. The food was OK but got a bit bored of water melon and papia after 6 days. The beech was lovely and the sea and snorkeling great. Sadly the sand flies were obviously very hungry,do take a 95%deet insect repellent with you.

Fred and SP are super lovely hosts, who also had so much passion towards protecting the only planet we are having.
do bear in mind you are going to an island for the beach and immersed yourself in non-commercialized, non-modern life. embrace the beach and mosquitos and bugs ha.
bring insect repellent is a must. get ready to slightly-cold shower (but it is so good in summer days)
this is the place for you to zone out, be zen and have a great time with your best friends and family

+ love the idea, exectution and dedication to the project
+ amazing food
+ clean, put-together beach
+ organize transportation if you wish
+ mosquito net
+ quiet, relaxing atmosphere
+ drinking water
+ spacious bathroom
+ all meals available (breakfast in the room rate, lunch and dinner not but they're affordable)
- A few holes in the wall so animals can get in if you're not careful
- Maybe (!) too riggid meal time - it was okay for us though so we never asked to change it
