Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I and two friends recently visited, it was my third visit and their first. I had tried to describe the lovely feeling of being at one with nature at this lovely tranquil spot. They are now aware of the special qualities of this place. We stayed each time in the Villa, a rustic, unpretentious time capsule. A glitzy five star stay, this is not. But if you are looking to repair your ragged sensibilities and appreciate the importance of quiet time to reflect, this is definitely the place. The evening dinner is very special with Sue serving up real food excellently prepared. The company is was interesting too. If I return which I probably will to NZ I wouldn't dream of passing it by. Thank you David and Sue, another lovely experience.

We stayed just one night at the villa with our two young children aged 2 and 5. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay here - the house is beautiful, interesting and it is lovely and different to stay somewhere so historic. It was amply stocked with linen and towels and the kitchen had everything you could need. There was even a box of toys for the kids, novels and magazines. But it was the outdoors we enjoyed the most - stunning views, a sprawling garden with an old slide and cubby house which kept the kids entertained for hours. And we went for a walk up the road to discover breathtaking views for miles. Kids adored the animals they met - horses, sheep and dogs. Sue and David were lovely, welcoming hosts who showed us the animals and treated us to a most gorgeous brekkie -

May 2014 we, an elderly French couple, spent 2 nights at Sue and David 's homestead and we loved every minute of our time there. Acommodation itself was comfortable and charming; food was excellent - Sue is an expert cook and David makes sure to provide the right wines; but what makes it even more of a treasured memory is the warmth of their expert welcome. They introduced us to their family history and their area and shared with us their experience of travelling all over Europe. (and guess what: they even knew more than we do about our area in Provence!) David also took us rambling around the property as he had to gather his sheep and move them to a different piece of land. Definitely, a highlight of our fortnight in NZ .

A fantastic (and unique) experience with very gracious hosts. Fine dining with a strong continental theme - better than most restaurants and far more personal. Ideal for a short private holiday, or as in our case, a business retreat. I cannot recommend Mairenui highly enough.

We had a great time! See you again. Highly recommended. We stayed in the retreat but walked to the other places. All good. Dinner was most enjoyable. The retreat is the most interesting and unusual building. Most of all we were made very welcome

Wonderful place to stay with excellent dinner - delicious food and wine - yummy breakfast, comfortable bed, and great company from the hosts David and Sue. 4wd tour of the farm was great fun! We came away feeling very spoilt.

A wonderful place to take yourselves, some good friends, some kids and an intent to relax! Beautiful 360 degree rural views, relaxing activities like croquet, pool, feeding the animals, and cooking in the welcoming kitchen. We have been 3x with various families, and always come away feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Wonderful hosts, just a slice of peace and beauty.

We've just returned from a lovely Easter break staying in the villa. The kids loved being surrounded by the farm and animals, we had a great swim in the river just ten minutes up the road, many games of croquet, walks, and all in all a brilliant time. The villa is a friendly old house with beautiful views, and lots of places for kids to play and adults to relax both inside and out.

We enjoyed 2 nights at Mairenui, staying in The Retreat on the occassion of our honeymoon. We loved the complete peace and quiet and privacy of this special house. The view from the bedroom was hard to pull ourselves away from. We also enjoyed a few hours down at the river with the private swimming holes. This is the perfect place to come when you only have a night or two to spare when you really want to be away for a week. 2 nights felt like we were away for a week, that's how relaxed it was!

This farmstay is in a stunning, peaceful location. My husband and I spent two nights in the villa and wished we could have stayed longer. The villa is very well equipped with everything you need and more, aswell as a gas bbq. It has real character and is incredibly good value for money. We really enjoyed the tranquility of this beautiful setting and although we just took time to relax we found time to fit in a game of tennis on the concrete tennis court. We would love to think that we can return one day.
