Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed four nights here during the week while on business in Palmerston North. A home away from home, beautiful surrounds, comfortable bed with lovely linen and Nespresso tea and coffee making in your room. Jan and David are very friendly and welcomed us into their lodge like old friends. They have an extensive library and fascinating Scottish colonial settler family history that they shared with us. There is also a massage room and day spa so be mindful that others will be using the property while you are there but we were lucky to have the place to ourselves for two of the four days. Next time we will come back in the weekend and enjoy using the day spa facilities.

Hiwinui Lodge is the property of a local family and in the middle of their large farm. It is absolutely beautiful and idyllic, with all the comforts and feels of a large country lodge, yet this is a personal home and is full of warmth and genuine character. You are not staying at a soulless hotel - this is a real place, with gumboots and a lovely old farm dog at the back door, sheep in the paddocks, and friendly chooks on the manicured lawns. Jan and Dave are wonderful hosts who are relaxed and welcoming. The rooms are gorgeous and luxurious, the gardens are glorious, the food is amazing and the whole place just feels like a retreat. We can't wait to go back again.

We had a fantastic stay at Hiwinui recently. We enjoyed spending time relaxing on the deck overlooking the lawn and lake, before relaxing in the secluded spa. Our room was lovely with an amazing bathroom (large spa bath, large shower, double vanity). Our breakfast was beautifully cooked and well presented. We came away feeling rested and relaxed. We’d love to go back again.

We only had the opportunity to spend one night here, however we were looked after so well by Jan and David.

The spa treatments were very relaxing, well appointed bedroom with en-suite and private outdoor area. The late night out door spa pool experience complete with open fire and candles was tres romantic. Breakfast was lovely. A very nice overall experience and a great chat with the ‘Hiwinui Stud’ 😉.

Would 100% recommend to the discerning traveler. Very personal treatment.

There aren’t enough stars to rate the Hiwinui Estate. Jan greeted us at the door with the warmest welcome. Dave lit the fire and all was perfect. Beautiful and comfortable accommodation in a gorgeous property. The breakfast topped off a perfect stay. What a treat!

Stunning location and great hosts. Very close to town but with a very remote feel. Loved it!
Central to many other attractions including hiking and dining.
This is a working dairy farm but when at the estate you really feel hidden from the world.

Staying here makes any trip to Palmerston North worthwhile. The accommodation is beautiful and the attention to detail makes it perfection. The hosts are friendly but not intrusive, and they make you feel so welcome. The spa treatments are a real treat. I have been back three times and would not hesitiate to stay again.
