Reykjavik, and Iceland in general, is not cheap. You have to be prepared to spend if you want a comfortable or convenient hotel. We never rent cars when traveling abroad, so we look for hotels with public transit available nearby.
There are several Fosshotels in Reykjavik. We are recommending the Fosshotel Reykjavik at Borunnartun 1.
This hotel is very conveniently located; it's about a 5 minute stroll to the a public bus hub which is also on a main street, Laugavegur.
The hotel itself is very modern, has a couple of restaurants, and a tourist bus pickup spot almost right outside the door.
Our room was very comfortable, good mattresses, clean plush towels, and reasonably large.
The room was equipped with a safe, electric kettle, and a refrigerator. The wifi was pretty solid, and reasonably fast.
We have found that breakfasts at Scandinavian hotels are among the best, and this hotel is no exception. There was a very wide range of selections and an ample number of workers to both replenish and clear table. You will not leave the breakfast area hungry.
That's a good thing, because restaurants in Reykjavik are expensive.
As you research hotel choices, you may find cheaper accomodations, but we recommend that you stay at the Fosshotel Rekjavik. The good breakfast and the convenient location will allow you to fully enjoy your stay in Reykjavik.

Dear Tim Y, It is great to know you had such a wonderful stay and appreciated our breakfast buffet and our location. We are always looking for ways to improve the guest experience so your feedback is important to us. Definitely, you need to come back to Iceland during the summertime where you can experience the endless light and the magic of the eternal sunshine. Summer is prime time for hiking and pool hopping between natural hot springs. It‘s also the only season you can access the awe-inspiring highlands. This is when we have longer days, warmer nights and an endless list of activities that await you all around the country. We are genuinely excited about summer, so that is why we hope to have the chance to welcome you again during endless light. “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail”

Labeled as Iceland's largest hotel, Fosshotel Reykjavik is centrally located with plenty of attractions in whatever direction that you choose to take.
Upon entering the room we were surprised to see 2 single beds, this had been strange as we were sure that we had booked a double room. Nevertheless we moved the beds together and had no issues whatsoever during our stay about doing this and the cleaners even helped to make it more like a double room which was great. There are shower gel/shampoo & conditioner in the bathroom, as well as towels, shower cap, and face wipes. There was also complimentary tea and coffee (no milk) which was replenished after use by the cleaners. The rooms have plenty of light sources and a large radiator which you can adjust to suit your needs.
The breakfast was a buffet style with meats, cheeses, pastries, biscuits, noodles, eggs and many more to choose from. Breakfast was always something to look forward to and lasted from 06:30 - 10:00 with a waiter/waitress always on hand to help. You were never told to leave or reminded that breakfast was finished after 10:00 which was nice as you could be left to enjoy yourself. The hotel has a bar and other eating areas but we never tried these as we wanted to venture into Reykjavik.
The staff at the hotel were extremely polite and you knew that they were always on hand to help. The cleaners were extremely quick and efficient, with no complaints over how the room was left after coming back to our room later in the day.
The extra touches such as having water in the reception area was great. It was also extremely useful having the bus stop where all of the tours stop and pick up passengers being directly on the doorstep of the hotel.
All in all the time spent at Fosshotel Reykjavik was great, we didn't get to spend too much time here but I would certainly be checking back in if I was to visit this charming little city again.

We stayed here while visiting Reykjavik city and going on day trips such as golden circle and south coast. This is the perfect base for a visit as the location is close to town centre (5-10 min walk depending where you're going), close to many restaurants and immediately outside the front door is one of the main bus stops (bus stop 12) used for drop off/pickups by all the local tour companies.
The hotel itself is good value for the area and staff were genuinely very welcoming and accommodating. They helped us with every query and were the most attentive team that we have come across. Rooms were clean, comfortable and well designed. They were also far quieter than most hotels so we actually got a good sleep each night. Breakfast is tasty with a good selection of options and nice strong coffee. Breakfast starts early enough to eat before day trips leave.
There is a gym which is small but quiet so fine for keeping up training in between trips. Strangely for such a large hotel, there is no pool but we visited the local town pool/baths (10 min walk) which was a great experience, sitting in a pool with tourists and locals outside while it snows.
Bar has reasonably priced food and you can pay a fairly small amount to pack a lunch at breakfast, saving on lunch costs.
We intend to visit Iceland again and will use this hotel when we do.

The rooms are very spacious, we had a fantastic view of the harbour from the 9th floor. Sadly the windows were too dirty to get a clear picture.
The restaurant/bar downstairs has beautiful decor and great quality and priced food. If there was a little more choice I'd eat there every night! The breakfast is also great quality and more choices than you need, if you have a busy trip planned I would definitely recommend booking your stay to include breakfast.
The hotel's location is central to be picked up by the coach companies for trips and is very easy to walk back from the Old Harbour / Cathedral.
I had also emailed the hotel to tell them we were celebrating my sister's 21st birthday during our stay and they surprised her with a lovely handwritten card and a selection of chocolates. They really do go the extra mile here.

The hotel was lovely. Comfortable, clean and great value for money. I highly recommend adding the buffet breakfast which had all options of hot cooked breakfast, pancakes and continental. The staff were really helpful and welcoming. The location is excellent if you have trips booked as bus stop 12 is just by the side of the hotel (blue column in the outside picture) we didn’t really explore too near to the hotel due to the snowy weather and trips we had booked but it was well facilitated by public transport and the hop on hop off pick up was nearby.
Food in general was excellent and two very nice bar areas.
There is a small shop in reception and you can also book trips from here.
There is also a gym on site.
I would highly recommend this hotel and we will definitely stay here again.

Dear travelWatford, Thanks from all Fosshotel Staff, including the housekeeping Team, which daily with passion and attitude make the harder job in our property, and the food and beverage department, that daily try to find the best quality of each single product they offer you. We try to respect all wishes for each continent of the world every day of the week so that everyone can find a breakfast suitable for their taste and desire. We are fortunate to be blessed with one of the best location in the city with the main street in only a five-minute walking distance yet far enough to be bothered by the busy nightlife during the weekends and of cores the cherry on the top being the pick up right in front of the hotel for your excursions. We would love the opportunity to show you the same hospitality on your next trip. “One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things".

Just returned from our stay here and can recommend this hotel for visiting Iceland and Reykjavik. The location is perfect for walking to the main shopping and dining street and we easily walked to the harbour and museum etc.
The service from reception was exceptional and nothing seemed too much trouble. A very helpful guy even ordered us a pizza when we were back late.
Our room was on the 13th floor and had a nice view and it was very comfortable. The toiletries are nice and the bathroom has lovely underfloor heating which was good for warming up boots! The rooms are serviced on request so ask at reception for this and it will be done no problem. I think this may be due to covid.
Breakfast can be very busy but if you get up early as we tend to you will have no trouble. When it was very bad weather and the excursions were cancelled it was very busy for people going later. The food in the hotel is good especially breakfast and the bar food in the beer garden is good but limited choice, the beer is good. Dinner buffet was good if you’re hungry enough to get your money’s worth.
Iceland is expensive but if you look for happy hours (Appyhours app)and get the coupon app you can save a bit of money here and there. The bus station is very good for food and drinks and very near the hotel.
We went on the golden circle tour and south coast tour both were incredible and not to be missed. We did both the sky lagoon and blue lagoon and enjoyed both very much but if had to choose one would go for the blue lagoon as it’s out in the wilderness. Sky lagoon was good and is just out of Reykjavik. The cathedral and opera house are worth a look round and it’s worth going up the steeple (1,000isk) as the views are amazing. Flight over Iceland was worth going to also.
We were very lucky and saw the lights. There is a good fb page called” are those the lights” where people share photos as our phone died it was so cold and we couldn’t take our gloves off for more than 30 seconds!
Iceland is wonderful but you need the gear, plan for the worst and hope for the best!
We had lots of snow and ice and thermal layers and good boots are essential. We didn’t buy expensive stuff (M&S and mountain warehouse mainly)but it needs to be waterproof and WINDPROOF! Also we found ice cleats to be an inexpensive game changer when walking around on snow and ice, especially if you’re getting on a bit like us!. Go on book it you won’t regret it!

Had a great time staying at the Fosshotel. The rooms where clean and the service was excellent. Definitely worth while including breakfast in your room stay as food in Iceland can be expensive. You can purchase breakfast at the hotel if required but it is cheaper if added during booking.

My son and his girlfriend stayed here on their trip to Reykjavík, from arrival to departure the hotel could not have been better. Everything was first class especially the staff.
They were unfortunate enough to be two of the 39 tourists who had to be rescued after being trapped on the Langjökull glacier in a blizzard.
My husband and I realised there was a problem when we had had no contact from them for 8 hours. We contacted the hotel by email about our concerns and they responded immediately assuring us they would contact us if they returned to the hotel.
Unfortunately there had been an error of judgement on the tour groups part. We will be eternally grateful to the hundreds of volunteers who came to their aid that night. They risked their lives to save our children and the 37 other tourists.
When my son and his girlfriend returned to the hotel 28 hours later, shocked, exhausted and hungry, the staff provided them with a hot meal, dried their wet clothes and reassured them that whatever they needed they would provide. The staff emailed us and assured us they would do everything they could to ensure that they were safe and well looked after. Being so far away and helpless, this provided us with some comfort.
The staff did indeed check on them regularly, phoning their room to check on them and helping in any way they could.
Although their trip was marred by the traumatic experience they both say they will return to Iceland and most definitely the Fosshótel. The country is beautiful but what stood out to them was the kindness of the Icelandic people. They were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Again we would like to thank the wonderful staff at Fosshótel for their kindness and outstanding service.
The search and rescue team provided a well instrumented operation to locate and secure the safe return of everyone involved. There dedication and bravery should be a lesson to us all.
Thank you Iceland for looking after our children!

Dear Lorraine, Thanks again for sharing your son´s experience in this community. We really appreciate your sweet words. We are very sorry that Fraser and Kirsty have been trapped on the Langjökull glacier in a blizzard. These things should never happen. We are happy that now they are back home, with the families and the loved ones. We love our work and we try every single day to do our best for all our guests, we understand they had some other options to plan their stay in Reykjavik, but the staff is always a hidden ingredient with no chance to see on Internet, you have to taste it directly. We always pay a lot of attention to our guests' feedbacks since we do believe that you're the ones who can show us the right way to produce the best and most personalized service that will turn your time here into an unforgettable memory. We hope to welcome all of you back to our Fosshotel in the near future. Best Regards, "The best and most beautiful things in this world cannot be seen or even heard, but must be felt with the heart.”

We stayed 3 nights with a Gate 1 tour group. The hotel was conveniently located within short walking distances to museums, restaurants and waterfront scenery. The hotel has access to a variety of sightseeing tours and activities. There is a buffet restaurant on the main floor and for an extra charge breakfast can be included with your stay. There also a beer garden on a lower level with 20 plus different selections of beer. The food is superb and affordable with large portion sizes.
The standard rooms are small, but met our needs. The upper floors, (6-16), have excellent views of the city. Each room has two single beds which are pushed together in what they call a “double bed”. My wife loved the heated bathroom floors!!!
We definitely recommend this hotel!

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, loved the heated floors in the bathroom! The breakfast buffet was good. The beer garden was cozy. It was clean. We did not love the bathroom products, so if you are particular, then I would recommend bringing your own. The location was great with tour excursion busses stopping right in front.

Dear Jacqui K, We are delighted that you chose to stay with us during your time in Reykjavik and even happier to learn that you enjoyed our rooms and the heated floors in the bathroom. We truly do feel that we have the most perfect locations here in Reykjavik. A stones throw away from Sun Voyage - a sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason - and a short 10-15 minute walk into the heart of the city. Our location provides a peaceful retreat from the city centre, yet we are close enough for you to dive into the heart of it at a moments notice! We look forward to seeing you again soon! As always please email us directly and we shall be happy to assist you at any time. Best regards, "No man needs a vacation so much as the person who has just had one"

Don't know it exactly but this would the first hotel ever that I know is charging to keep your luggage till check inn (or check out). Suggest you ask the hotel about this by email.
We arrived early and our room was available so early check in is possible however there is an area to store luggage if that wasn't the case on your arrival
only from the public room near the elevator
It depense if you have booked with or without breakfast.
