It is located in an ecologically pure place on the picturesque shore of Saimaa lake about 20 km from the center of Savonlinna and 103 km from the Russian-Finnish border. The primeval nature fascinates and opens up a lot of opportunities for an unforgettable vacation.
In winter, you can fishing, skiing on the snowy slopes, playing hockey and many others. Snowmobile, skating and skiing tracks start right from the center of the resort. In summer time our guests like to take a bike ride and go boating, spend time in a modern water park that is located nearby.

Punkaharju Resort is located in a beautiful area with a huge lake and forrest around. There’s a restaurant (Pavilijonki) that serves good food (was surprised!). We rented a 2-person economy cabin with shared toilets and shower facilities for 3 nights. There’s an equipment rental place closeby (Harjun Portti) for bikes, kayaks, SUP boards, which was handy and friendly.
The economy cabin in itself is quite cute and ok for 2 people for a short stay, with 2 separate beds, a fridge & a microwave. BUT the beds are incredibly uncomfortable, literally a wooden box with a thin mattress on it. Both our backs hurt immensly the day after and the sleep wasn’t very comfortable or calm. As we stayed 3 nights we added on own sleeping mats etc under the mattress and it improved slightly. Also the fridge is very loud, so prepare to have ear plugs in. Summarizing, I wouldn’t recommend these cabins if you want a good nights sleep or have back problems. We were literally counting the days to leave to a better place after the first night. Note: Can’t speak for the other cabins that look nice and big.
The shared toilet and bathroom facilities are clean in general but very wet, moist and slippery, there’s only a few toilets (2) and showers (3) in one of the shared buildings. They’re all in the same one small room so there’s a lot of lines & waiting at certain hours. Also the design is not the best as you will literally stand naked beside the door that gets opened up all the time and people can look into the showers when it’s open. Normal in Finland maybe, but still, minus points for the lack of privacy (even if I’m a Finn).

We rented a small apartment for three nights. It was equipped with a small kitchen and, of course, a bathroom with a sauna. We didn't use that in the summer heat, but we did rent a kayak and enjoyed paddling, swimming and the general scenery of the area.
The apartment was quiet and generally well cleaned, although we did find an empty Red Bull can on the balcony.
The free WiFi worked well, but it is an unprotected system so be careful!
For gourmet food and wine, look elsewhere.

2-person cabin for one night, wouldn’t recommend. Maybe the other cabins were more neat, this one wasn’t and we had to change the cabin once due to cleaning issue. Shower/bathroom building was okay, better than expected. Beautiful scenery

Restaurant - please don’t go there. Visited the place August 9th afternoon. There were only 4 people before us, but it took over 50 minutes to bring our 2 dishes - made basicly directly from frozen half-ready ingredients. No apologises, only after we critized the extremely poor service time. Please manager, do something about it! Place and terrace by the lake deserve much more.

Worst Pizza ever! And extremly overpriced. The young staff are friendly but do not eat there or drink beer. 9€ for a draft beer!!! The pizza should be removed from the meny ASAP. It looks like they are using ready pizza kit of lowest quality. P.S Had real pizza in Milano 1 week ago. Go there and learn the craftmanship.

The cabins are cosy, but the beds are terrible. Its a wooden plank with a 'mattres' thats 2 centimeter thick. If you want a bad night and a sore back go for it. Breakfast is okayish, the place and location are nice.

Not an easy place to review. Topelius as an accommodation is as advertized. It's in good shape, has a kitchenette, wifi, tv, sauna, balcony. Lal's well there.
As for the rest of the area, nor so sure. The nearby Punkaharju Pavilion -restaurant NOT recommended.

Yes everything looks so good when looking at the website, the lake is beautiful and it looks like perfect holidays! And then you rent this very expensive cottage to have a great family weekend! And then you arrive and the first thing you have to do is to clean the whole cottage so that you have a chance to enjoy a minimum the stay. Totally disgusting, not in order, dish needs to be washed, floor to be vacuum...remove all things left from previous people... So why do we pay a 20€ cleaning fee then?
And so when going to reception to mention this, of course they cannot do anything. Manager is on week end and receptionist do not know what to do... So horrible week end started with cleaning, no service delivered, bad reception...
Just choose another place to stay! You have better chance to enjoy your holidays

It's a pity that this place is a bit deteriorated. Surroundings of the place are so beautiful, it's by the lake and surrounded by forest. We rented 5 sauna cabins together with friends. All the cabins would really need a renovation. It was not nice to use sauna, when all the water coming from the shower flooded on the bathroom floor, some mosquito nets in front of windows were fixed with a duct tape and furniture was a mixture of something picked up from the recycling center. Tried to relax myself by cooking some tea water, but when poured the water to the tea cup, notices that the pan I used hadn't been cleaned although cleaning was supposed to be included.
The restaurant on the are was really nice, it was clean and spacious. Unfortunately food it offered was nothing special. Overpriced, I would say.
I think this place should invent new ways to utilize the lakeside area. Organizing some barbecue events and boat trips perhaps? And please organize a wifi connection to the cottages!

Ensimmäistä ( ja viimeistä) kertaa huone luhtitalo Topeliuksessa kahdeksi yöksi. Oikein siisti ja hienon näköinen huone omalla saunalla. Mutta se oli aikamoinen pettymys, että Luhtitalo Topeliuksen huoneiston patio avautuu muutaman metrin päässä olevalle minigolf-radalle. Tätä kun ei ole Luhtitalo Topeliuksen mainoskuvissa näytetty. Omalla patiolla ei kärsinyt istua ja nauttia illasta, koska ensin minigolfia pelaavien koira oli viereiseen puuhun kiinnitettynä ja haukkui siinä 1,5 tuntia. Sen jälkeen ravintolassa trubaduuri lauleskeli iltakymmeneen käyttäen äänenvahvistinta. Saimme myös naapuriin myös terassitupakoitsijan, jolta tupakansavu sitten muillekin terasseille levisi. Patioilla on muovirottinkiset puutarhatuolit. Tuoleista lähtee kova ärsyttävä ääni, kun ihmiset siirtävät tuoleja raahaten niitä pitkin pation laudoidusta ( voisihan tuolin myös nostaa vai mitä?). Tai terassikalustevalinta oli väärä. Topeliuksen huonehinnat ovat kuitenkin sen verran kalliita, että olisi luullut, että talon olisi voinut sijoittaa omalle rauhallisemmalle alueelle, eikä keskelle camping-aluetta ja muita mökkejä!
First ( and the last) time for two nights in Topelius. Such a beautiful and clean room with own sauna and patio! But it was such a dissappointment that just opposite your own patio there is a minigolftrack. I did not see any picture about this at Punkaharju resort-web pages. First evening we could not enjoy staying at our patio, because there was a minigolfplayer’s dog barking for 1,5 hours while they were playing. After that a trubadur was singing loud at the nearby restaurant till 22 clock. The chairs on the patio make awfull noise when people in your neighbour drag the chairs instead of lifting them. We also had a smoker next to our patio. So other quests could freely enjoy the cigarette smoke! Topelius rooms are so expensive that it is strange that the Topelius house could not have placed to a more peaceful place than among everything other, like camping and cottages.
