Had the good fortune to stay 3 nights.
The whole area is very nice and the property is elevated overlooking the lake on both sides.
Inside I fell in love with Leigh’s decorating style, it’s very ‘old colonial’ feeling with sumptuous furnishings. Absolutely everything is thought of down to the beautiful cutlery set out for breakfast.
Leigh and Mike are fabulous hosts gauging what you need and want before you yourself do. They really are very lovely people.
We took the quadruple room which had dual aspect lake view the room is large and spacious with a seating area and the bed & bedding is very comfortable, a large flat screen TV with Netflix ‘proper’, coffee (espresso and filter) and a fridge with little treats were all ‘just right’. The shower was powerful with plenty of hot water and separated the other room with 2 single beds, also with TV.
Breakfast was excellent, plentiful and varied served in their gorgeously decorated dining area overlooking the lake.
My husband and I both agreed it was so perfect we’d both love to stay for at least a month/just move in.
It’s going to be hard staying anywhere else moving forward,

Room Tip: Take the lake walk if you like birds. I thought the quadruple suite was the best.

We loved everything about this B&B including the lovely hosts Leigh and Mike. The Lodge is beautifully decorated and has marvellous views over Lake Okareka. It is luxurious but welcoming. The area around Rotorua has so much to offer and this is the perfect place to make your base. Breakfast is delicious and the coffee the best we have had in any B&B or hotel. We Intend to return to Ngamihi. We love the area and think this is the best place to enjoy this beautiful part of the world. Thank you Leigh and Mike for making our time so special and enjoyable.

Mike and Lee were great hosts.
Their place is warm and comfy, stylish and classy.

They know how to look after you but also how to leave you be.

The location, overlooking the lake, is gorgeous and close to the town but out of the ruck.

Breakfast is great - the pancakes are monumental and the scrambled eggs a work of art.

Their tips on the right spas or restaurants or things to do we spot on.

Rotorua is a great spot to visit and Ngamihi Lodge is an ideal base to do it from.

My partner and I stayed in the Kingfisher Suite at Ngamihi Lodge for 2 nights. The views were amazing and house was stunning. Leigh and Mike were excellent hosts - always available with recommendations, and a delicious breakfast each morning. A 5 star experience!

It’s been a while, 30 years in fact, since I’ve stayed at a B&B. After a 20 minute period of re-settling, and getting used to sharing a house space with our hosts, Leigh and Mick, the three night stay eased into a peaceful and welcome home, over looking the stunning Lake Okareka.
Leigh and Mick have styled their home rather wonderfully, a luxurious tribute to their travels, part high class African hunting lodge, part Asian odyssey, with more than a sprinkle of Swiss mountain and lake view.
Oh, the view is rather wonderful and endlessly worth losing yourself to.
Leigh and Mick were pleasant and helpful and wonderfully accomodating, you’ll feel very comfortable.
This is a lovely spot to perch for a few nights and not overly far from the adventures of Rotorua.
I’d recommend.

I was searching for something that was a bit different from a typical hotel and I found it! I'm a bit late on posting this review, but better late than never!

After searching for a nice hotel and even considering some high-end options, I decided to give Ngamihi Lodge a closer look after it came up on a Booking.com and had exceptional reviews. The owners include a Chef and and interior designer making for a perfect combination. The rooms were beautiful done with upscale furnishings and comfortable beds and amenities. The morning breakfast was wonderful. Ask for the special eggs!
For international travelers like us, its great to have an opportunity to meet locals and get to talk to them about their home, city and country. It makes for a very personalized experience.

The lodge is a bit off the beaten path so having a car was useful for us, but other than that our stay was excellent and well worth the price paid. I highly recommend this property.

We stayed at Ngamihi for a couple of nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Recommended by friends, who are rather fussy, we had high expectations and Ngamihi exceeded these.
Leigh and Mike welcomed us as friends, and provided hospitality “in spades”. Our Tui suite was 5 star comfortable and came with its own little lounge opening on to the outdoor area with the spacious view of Lake Okareka and bush covered hills. Tranquil and quiet, the only noise being birdsong, Ngamihi provided the perfect interlude we were seeking.
Breakfast is worth a mention. Leigh’s pancakes or Mike’s scrambled eggs ? How to choose ? Both got a big tick from 2 very content customers.

We arrived at Ngamihi Lodge after a long drive from Paihia - feeling exhausted, sweaty and dusty. The house looked just perfect from outside - beautiful garden, large terrace, wonderful lake view. Leigh opened the door and looked even more perfect, almost intimidatingly perfect for people having just spent 9 hours on the road. We said Hello to Mike and the two dogs, took a brief look at the communal lounge (where meals are served) brimming with all sorts of decorative objects and were shown to our room, the Kingfisher Suite. Stylish interior with white and beige being the predominant colours, windows opening onto the lake, a private veranda, a spacious bathroom with walk-in shower, a fridge with cold drinks in an adjoining room - we felt comfortable.
We had preordered dinner for our first evening, a wise decision for two reasons: First, there is no restaurant in the vicinity, and second, the salmon dinner was tasty and the smooth ambiance plus the lake view were unique. Leigh poured us a full-bodied Syrah and when my husband was about to finish his second glass she simply left the bottle on the table (leaving it up to us whether to not misbehave or keep on enjoying). Breakfast was served in style, too. While we only had cereal and some toast and jam on the first day as we had to leave early for our excursion to Lady Knox Geysir we chose banana pancakes for the second morning - delicious, and with some kiwi and oranges pretty filling, too.
We only had two nights and with all the sights to visit in the Rotorua area we could not spend as much time in the lovely house as we would have wanted to. Mike and Leigh had been nice hosts. The only "negative" aspect of our stay was that somehow we felt a bit like intruders into their private paradise.
