The itinerary - less than 22 hours in Copenhagen with a mid-afternoon arrival. The requirement - a clean hotel for 1 night, close to all the highlights, which doesn't cost a lot as it's only for sleeping, a shower, and breakfast. The solution - Hotel Bethel!

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
A 10-minute walk from the Kongens Nytorv Metro Station (the M2 Metro line goes directly to the CPH airport), Hotel Bethel is in the iconic Nyhavn canal area with all the colorful buildings and boats. I highly recommend taking the canal tour that departs from Nyhavn - you get the cliffs notes version of the city's history and waterfront architecture. There is so much to see and do within 15-20 minutes walking distance in either direction. It's on the street with the bus stop that goes to Tivoli Gardens. In the daytime, the whole area is bustling with tourists. However, it is so peaceful and perfect late at night and in the morning before all the tourists arrive.

THE HOTEL STAY
The rooms are the typical, small European-sized rooms, so we booked 2 superior double bed rooms for our party of 2 adults and 2 teenagers. The lobby, courtyard, breakfast area, and rooms are clean and have a Danish sensibility to them. The layout of the hotel is a little bit of an up-and-down maze, with a tiny elevator, but we found that to be charming. There's complimentary tea and coffee in the lobby.

ROOMS
The rooms were clean, and there's a safe in each room. The one quirk is that the bathroom, while spacious, is a wet room style, with the shower just there, without walls or a step-in, next to the toilet. The TV has limited channels but we were not there to watch TV.

BREAKFAST
It's just a simple breakfast spread with a wide array of toast, pastries (have a danish in Denmark!), fruit, yogurts, cereal, granolas, jam and butter. I am a simple breakfast type of person, just toast and coffee, so this was exactly what I needed.

We had to be at the Metro station by 11am to be at the airport by 11:30, so it was just lovely to have a couple of hours after breakfast to walk around through Amalienborg and Langelinieparken.

If you have a similar, short itinerary as ours or just appreciate a simple, clean Danish sensibility in a location close to everything, the Hotel Bethel is a great place to stay!

Stayed here for 3 nights whilst in Copenhagen. We just had a very basic room (that’s all we were looking for), hotel was very clean and met all our basic needs - we opted not to have breakfast there (as we like to walk around and eat locally whenever we travel) so can’t comment about the breakfast. However, the high rating comes from the incredibly friendly and helpful staff - they are just delightful and so helpful, they’ve made it sad to leave. In addition to the staff, it’s about the best location you could ask for for tourists. It’s literally about 10 metres from the most photographed point in Copenhagen, and in a street that on both sides of the Nyhavn Canal is filled with bars and restaurants and very close walking distance to a number of the cities attractions - you can’t get a better location. So for location, value for money and the maybe the best hotel staff you may come across, this is a must stay place in Copenhagen. We’ll be back, and won’t look for any other place.

Great location in the heart of the city - less than 10 mins' walk from a Metro station that's only 15 minutes from the airport. Situated in a beautiful old building, the inside is all Scandanavian Style - light, bright and airy. The rooms were nicely fitted out and very comfortable. The staff were friendly; breakfast was satisfactory if unremarkable.
Top tip - make use of their complementary umbrellas. When we had one it didn't rain; the one time we didn't, we got soaked.

Just spent 4 days in copenhagen at this excellent hotel.
Situated right on the waterfront in the middle of nyhavn.
All staff go above and beyond to ensure all guests are very well looked after and they are a hive of information on Copenhagen.
Buffet breakfast is excellent, very fresh every day and plentiful.
We stayed in room 121 with great view of the canal and restaurants and bars on the other side, the room was exceptionally clean and water piping hot in the shower etc.
I would imagine in the height of summer it could be a little noisy at night but out of season or for a short break absolutely perfect in a prime location.
Unlimited tea and coffee for free in the lounge and reception area and right on top of everything to explore in this wonderful city.

Cannot say enough about the staff and facilities here. We were using this as our base for a relatively long stay in Copenhagen (9 nights) and we enjoyed how central it was for the rest of our touring exploits. Ideal for finding places to eat, shop, and just walk around this great city. The people watching is great on the Nyhavn canal. Staff were friendly and helpful -- particularly when it came to helping us find locations for our Covid tests to leave the country, local laundry services, and transport. We paid for a canal view and were not disappointed. Despite the traffic on the street and the water it was really quiet in the room; the windows are well insulated. Breakfast was included and the choices were pretty standard. Nothing to write home about, but enough to get you going. Honestly not sure how another place in Copenhagen could match this for convenience, color, and downright joy.

On our way back from Greece during the Coronavirus lock down, we had a stopover in Copenhagen. My wife had the idea of making or short stopover a much longer one by staying 4 days/3 Nights in Copenhagen from October 5th through the 8th. It was a really great decision. Copenhagen is a beautiful city with many great things to see so I am sure we would have loved the experience of going to Copenhagen regardless of where we stayed but when the hotel is great, it makes everything better. We stayed in a hotel just like that, the Hotel Bethel. It's a beautiful hotel located right in the center of everything. My wife and I could walk to every attraction from our hotel and we did that every day. The hotel is right on the Nyhavn Canal and we got a corner room with a canal view. It was spectacular. We were also within minutes of walking to Amalienborg (the home of the Danish royal family) and the canal tours. Everything was within walking distance from the hotel. As beautiful as the hotel and its surrounding are, the staff eclipse them all. The staff at the Hotel Bethel is truly top notch. They seem to love being in the people business and it shows. They were very friendly and helpful. When we got there, we were greeted by Anja and she made us feel very welcomed and went out of her way to show us the features of our room. Then, each evening we were lucky enough to have Miriam working and she was just fantastic. She was an absolute joy to talk with. She told us about the history of Copenhagen better than any tour guide could have. Both Anja & Miriam gave us great suggestions on what sights to see, where to eat and when was the best time to do all of those things. Each morning we had a great breakfast served by Violeta who was very sweet and pleasant and never made me feel bad for taking extras since as an American, I am used to bigger portions. Since we were there during the pandemic and Americans were not allowed in the country, I was even more appreciative by their genuine hospitality. I was able to go to Greece since my wife is Greek but Denmark wasn't open to me and I was very lucky that I got a very nice border agent who let me in after I proved I had a series a clean tests before entering. Everyone member of the staff that we met were all just beautiful people and they truly made the whole experience that much better for us. Thank you Anja, Miriam & Violeta and everyone else at the Hotel Bethel for making our stay in Copenhagen magical!

We stayed for 3 nights in December. Location is brilliant - within walking distance of all the sites/Metro. Our room had been recently refurbished and although the bathroom was tiny it was perfectly adequate. Breakfast was good - cereals, fruit, bread, pastries.

There aren't tea/coffee making facilities in the room but you can get free tea and coffee in reception 24 hours a day. Whilst there was no problem getting free coffee, you had to specifically ask the receptionist for the tea, and there was a bit of a language barrier with one particular receptionist.

Overall this is a really great hotel. You can't beat the location and the whole place is super clean and tidy.

We will be back!

The hotel is ideally situated across from plenty of restaurants. Travel from Copenhagen airport is 15-20 minutes and isn't cheap. Entertainment is all a short walk away with bars, museums, river tours and the Little Mermaid statue just some of the things nearby. The hotel is a small establishment with friendly staff but our room was a letdown it was very small and poky. The bathroom was clean but also small and the towels were more like flannels. This hotel is all about location but the bright, airy feel to the reception area was not carried through to our room which had tired, bland decor. Would definitely return to Copenhagen but not sure I would return to this hotel.

This hotel looks beautiful and is well appointed. The rooms are spacious and the staff was friendly. All was good until we got back from dinner and went to go to our room on the fifth floor and the elevator got stuck. We were pushing the alarm button and the alarm goes to an outside company who was trying to call the hotel but no answer, I was trying to call the hotel from my cell phone and was automatically put on hold for over 10 minutes. We were also yelling for help and continuing to push the alarm with no assistance. Finally the elevator started moving and stopped at the next floor. I called the lobby from my room and waited on hold for an additional 10 minutes before someone picked up. I told them I wanted to be moved to a room on the bottom floor which they accommodated and the manager was very apologetic but said they were very busy due to Ironman and Pride week. I explained that there should be some sort of in house emergency response system because they had no clue we were trapped in the elevator. After sleeping on it I decided to ask for some sort of compensation the next morning due to the trauma of the experience that my daughter and I had to endure. I was told by the manager that she could offer me free breakfast and would look into something else but to check back. When I checked back they said there was nothing they could do because I booked through a third party site. I asked if they could cover my dinner from the night before and was told no. The staff at this hotel was very polite, however, I will not stay at this Hotel chain again due to the lack of emergency response they have on site.

The hotel is in the best location in Copenhagen, right on the waterfront overlooking the canal. The buildings here are old, colorful, and traditional. The outside of the hotel could use a little touch-up of paint, but the inside looks great. The standard rooms are small, which is typical for the area. I did not see the superior rooms. These face the canals and may have some noise at night, so we chose to face the courtyard. Our room was very quiet and comfortable.

The staff was especially accommodating. Breakfast starts at 7, but we had to leave early for our flight, and the staff opened up the breakfast room for us at six. Most hotels give you a paper bag with a pastry and maybe some fruit or yogurt, but we had the entire breakfast experience. We would book at this hotel again if we find ourselves in Copenhagen.
