Friendly place in a sleepy beach town There wasn’t much going in Symi when we visited, but we walked to Nimborios beach and spent a pleasant lunch here No a lot of competition but good service - they were pleased to see us Basic Greek cuisine on offer
This traditional Taverna is located at Nimborio bay, which is a little bit of heaven. We took the short but enjoyable taxi boat journey from Symi to get there (4 euros pp), and afterwards walked it back to Symi to enjoy the wonderful views (a fairly easy 30 minute dander approx. unless you have any mobility issues or just unfit). Sitting by the crystal clear, blue Aegean Sea, all you can hear is the sound of the water and the birds. Bliss. People come here for peace and quiet - no music blaring, no-one shouting or talking loudly - so lovely away from the bustle of Symi and the daily crowds off the cruise ships. There are no menus, as such, just a daily list of what is available written up with chalk on a board outside, such as "Shrimps" or "Sardines" etc - as simple as that. The jolly lady that owns the Taverna encouraged us to go in and have a look at all the fresh fish available. It was a difficult choice but we eventually went for a selection to share: whole grilled Calamari, Symi Shrimps, Stuffed Tomatoes and Peppers, and Tzatziki. To be washed down with a few beers and carafe of white wine. With the aroma of fish being freshly prepared wafting out from the kitchen inside, we waited patiently, enjoying the drinks, the views, and the silence. Well, what a feast. Beautiful freshly cooked food full of the flavour of Greece. Possibly one of the nicest meals we had in Symi. Simple, unpretentious, delicious. Places like this are we come to Greece, why we love it so much. Not the busy, noisy resorts full of tourists and shops all selling the same cheap, merchandise. This is the real Greece. Please visit. Enjoy.…
This family run restaurant serve up fantastic seafood all caught and cooked freshly. Pop inside and choose your fish from the counter. The small fried red fish are delicious. Occasionally it takes a while for the bill or coffee to arrive but in such a location that doesn't matter and just adds to the charm of the place.
The beach is beautiful so we went there to spend a day. Taverna itself is family run business. Maybe we've ordered wrong dishes (at 2 pm there wasn't a great choice though) but the food was disappointing. My partners' first 2 choices weren't available anymore (There are no menus on the tables so he had 2 choices - keep going to the menu board located by the front door to check what else is on there or just have what's left) so he settled for spaghetti which he said was OK. I ordered tuna salad and got a tin of tuna slapped on a plate and couple slices of tomatoes. It really looked like a slap on a plate. I wouldn't return there for a meal in a hurry.
Love visiting Nimborio and this taverna. Set in a stunning location at the water's edge this is a traditional Greek family run taverna with good food. They also have a small beach with sunbeds, parasols and tables for hire.
