Cretan Renaissance is hosted in a Venetian manor house, characterized by the Ephorate of Byzantium Antiquities and UNESCO as a historical monument to be preserved. Its construction is estimated somewhere within the period of Venetian domination upon Crete. The architectural approach and settlement of the building follow the stylistic principles of that historical era.

We have just returned from our second stay at this wonderful small hotel, which says it all really. We loved everything about both our stays here. Our room this time was called Erophele; it is a large room with two windows giving fantastic views of the Venetian harbour, and a big bathroom complete with a jacuzzi bathtub with overhead shower. Breakfast is served in the restaurant downstairs where you sit on the harbour-front watching the world go by while enjoying your a la carte selections. Everyone working here is friendly and helpful, but special thanks go to Emily who runs the front desk, and is a pleasure to meet. There are many good restaurants and boutique shops in the surrounding streets and alleyways and a beach within comfortable walking distance where you will find some lovely beachfront tavernas for lunch. Highly recommended!

A truly photogenic room (Aretousa) located at one of the best spots of Chania.
No need to say much, have a look at the pics.
Just to add a comment for the excellent service, especially from Emily!
The breakfast was served at the restaurant located on the ground floor, a la cart, with sufficient choices and very tasteful since it was prepared by professionals.

From the minute we walked the hotel staff went out of their way to ensure we had every comfort and as much information about the city as needed for a perfect 2-day visit. The room was quiet, comfortable and well furnished, in style with the rest of the hotel. Among the many positive aspects we had the luck of enjoying at the Cretan Renaissance, I must emphasize the friendly atmosphere and very helpful Lady at the front desk who kindly and patiently gave us directions to the places we wanted to visit in the city.

What a wonderful world !

We stayed here from July 22 to 24, 2020.
This little hotel right on the port bay is a wonder ! The owner and his mother are very kind and warm, they make you instantly feel you are part of the family. Rooms are perfectly decorated, with art and style, like in a faerie tale. Climatisation, everything you need, extraordinary bathrooms, no noise at all. And meals are just enchanting. breakfast in front of the port is a mythic experience in itself!
Don’t miss this pearl ! The best way to discover the most beautiful town in Cretia !

We loved this Boutique Hotel. The rooms were beautifully decorated with many personal touches that make you feel you are home. We had the opportunity to meet the owner and his mother and learn about the family history of this property. They were wonderful, gracious, and kind. Breakfast every morning in their restaurant (Arismari) was delicious, as well as the dinners. The staff were also welcoming and service was outstanding. The hotel is perfectly located on the Harbor with amazing views. My husband and I are thankful for having stayed here and will cherish the memories and friendships we made.

We had a lovely time here, the owner Yanis (I hope I spelled this right!) has been really helpful and prepared for us a takeaway breakfast every day as we were heading to the beach very early. Our room was always clean and perfect, with a lovely view on Chania town.
They also own a restaurant which we didn't have the chance to try but the food looked delicious.
Definitely recommended!

My partner and I stayed in the balcony room for 3 nights- we had a full breathtaking view of the Venetian harbour every night. The rooms were so clean, elegant, spacious and beds were very comfortable. They also have a restaurant called “Arismari” downstairs, where we dined 2 nights out of 3 and the food was stunning. A variety of foods from greek cuisine, seafood to meat to pasta and all sorts.

Yiannis, the owner who welcomed us from the beginning of our stay made us feel extremely comfortable and at home and Nikos who greeted us every morning at the restaurant and served us a full Greek breakfast was so friendly and helpful. I was blown away by their professional staff, service and facilities. We will definitely be back. Thank you Cretan Renaissance!

Cretan Renaissance is an absolute gem. With only four rooms, two facing the harbour, it is one of the oldest buildings in Chania, built during the early Venetian occupation. It has been restored and decorated to the highest possible standard and everything has been thought through and chosen sensitively from lighting and decor to door handles and bedding.

We had a very warm welcome and later that night shared a raki with the owners, Nikos and Chryssa. The weather was rough and we had to time our approach to the front door between the occasional waves, which washed across the promenade. This was not a problem and actually added an element of fun! Car parking is a couple of hundred metres away. It was early February, so the restaurant attached to the hotel was closed (we look forward to eating here in April) but an excellent breakfast was provided in a nearby cafe.

Because it was poor weather, we spent some time sitting in our room, reading and looking out of the widows across the harbour. This was our 45th wedding anniversary and we couldn’t have chosen anywhere better. We have stayed in quite a few –places in Chania: this was, without doubt, the best. We look forward to our next visit.

What a lovely friendly family and staff this hotel has. They genuinely care about their guests. From check in to departing all was exceptional. The room we had had two windows overlooking the harbour and it was wonderful just to sit and watch the people coming and going and soak up the atmosphere, whilst sipping the complimentary bottle of wine.A fantastic spacious room with comfy large bed and a romantic bathroom with spa bath. The restaurant below supplies delicious food and the breakfast is second to none. You need to allow at least an hour to enjoy the full experience. Thank you for a wonderful stay on the 12th Oct.

Cretan Renaissance

From our late night (midnight) arrival to our reluctant good-bye, we always felt welcome.

Yes, the hotel/restaurant is perfectly located. Yes, every meal we enjoyed exceeded our expectations. Yes, our room was comfortable, quiet (really) and held wonderful little touches that demonstrated the care that went into the renovation of this solid old building.

But it was the people that made our stay special. From providing helpful information on things to see and do, to delivering our substantial luggage to our room, to arranging for a rental car for our departure. Nothing seemed a bother. We felt like we were their only guests.

Some people know the restaurant business. Some know the hotel business. But I’ve never stayed in a place that knew the Hospitality Business as well as those running the Cretan Renaissance.
