Nice place but not so easy to find. Room was nice but hot, only had fans to cool us down. Stayed in a 8 bed mixed dorm and got woken at 2.30 am by some extremely inconsiderate girls singing and talking loudly. The showers were very average, very dark once you closed the door and barely enough room to move. The beds were comfy enough. Only stayed one night but would stay again.

I love the look of this hostel. It has hanging flowers everywhere and feels very exotic. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and had a lot of fun on both of my stays.

You have to pay for the showers and washing facilities but I have never been to a hostel where the washing machines are free and the showers are good. The rooms are so cheap that paing a couple of Euros extra doesn't make it bad value at all.

I walked all over Athens from this hostel. It is centrally located but you will need to walk for a little while before you hit the tourist hotspots.

The kitchen is a little small and if it is busy in the hostel you will need to time it right when wanting to cook.

A big bonus here is the free wifi. Also look out for the tourist ticket books which give you reduced cost admission for certain tourist exhibits. They are usually floating aroung the social area.

If I was visiting Athens again I would book myself in here for another stay.

Pagration Youth Hostel advertises many things which simply aren't included, and the maintenance of the building is lacking.

Amenities which are advertised but not included: central heating, wi-fi, safe deposit, information desk, washing machine and dryer, and 24-hour hot water.

I was there in March, and there was no heating in our female dorm. We had a fan, but it was very chilly in the room, and my friend and I were constantly shivering. Additionally, it cost money to take a shower with hot water, and the taps in the bathrooms did not have hot water. I would pay euro to take a shower, but after 5 minutes the shower water would turn icy and I'd have to sprint out and put more money in. Once the machine ate my money, and the staff wouldn't give me a refund.

The safe deposit is just the room where the manager sleeps. There was one young man working 24-7, and when I wanted to get my luggage I had to track him down or wake him up. Though there was an information desk, it was empty the whole time I was there, so in order to get maps, advice, etc, I also had to track the young man down. This man told me he was working for room and board, so it seemed to me that 1) he was overworked, and 2) there wasn't much incentive to provide good service.

I booked a private room, but when I showed up the manager had sent all the queen-sized sheets to the wash so we had no bedding. They gave us some small blankets in place of sheets. Even though they had advance notice, they weren't ready for us.

The wi-fi was out the entire week we were there. They sent us to an internet cafe 10 minutes away, where we had to spend more money to use the internet.

There is also no clothes dryer. After using the washing machine (which costs more euro), I had to walk up a rickety spiral staircase to the roof and line-dry my clothes.

I booked this hostel because I thought it was a good value for my money. But after paying for hot water, internet, and washing, it turned out to be more expensive than other hostels with better resources.

The George’s are the kindest men you’ll ever meet despite the bald George’s unceasing bullying. We threatened to write a bad review but now my shoes have been hidden so I’m forced to elaborate on their impeccable hospitality. The showers a little chilly but Terry said he’d sing to us so we didn’t feel so scared in the pitch black cubicles. Blonde George is great to have around as he never fails to have a few sporadic coins stuck to his back after clearly a very good nap. Don’t leave suggestions in the box because they won’t listen but bald George will read them aloud to try to embarrass you. Don’t forget your keys as Terry will never forgive you and he also wont remember your names so don’t argue if you end up being called Stacy when you’re name is really Michael. Right, I’m being kicked out so I’ve gotta dash. This place is the most wonderful hostel you could ever book and I shall never forget my stay here. Ps. We never saw the Acropolis - soz. Love Mary and Bella

The hostel was in a great location, with everything seeming to be within walking distance. The staff were friendly and helpful and the kitchen and bathroom was very clean. Although the hostel was initially a little hard to find as there isn't a good sign out the front of it.

Apart from the stark fact that 12 (or more) people have to use one bathroom with a ridiculous 50cent charge for hot water and a filthy toilet, as well as the plethora of other minor problems, my lasting impression (if you can call it that) is that the staff in Pagration hostel are the most amateur, unprofessional and rude I have encountered. Having had my bag and all my valuables stolen, I asked a member of staff for advice and the possibility of having my and my friend's further two night stay reimbursed as we had no money or cards. He, instead of helping us in anyway, managed to change our emergency situation into how it was inconvenient for him to hear this and that, to quote, "it's actually harder for me to hear this from tourists". He then halfheartedly intercommed the owner saying that "two kids just had their stuff stolen and demand a refund" before raising his eyebrows in a patronising and utterly uncaring way before reinforcing how much of a bother it was for him, in the face of me and my friend having had wallet, cameras, diary, bag and lots of money stolen. The most unpleasant place I've stayed in. Avoid it like the plague.

This hostel is one of the cheapest in Athens for a reason, it is unreasonably uncomfortable. The rooms are barren, the kitchen is filthy and lacking in dishes, counter space and cooking space. The hot showers cost .50 for 7 mins (2 of which are wasted getting the water heated), and there is NO hot water in the entire facility at any time of day. My partner and I stayed here in the off season but had to leave after 2 nights because the rooms, common area were freezing (you could see your breath in the air) and the owner told us the heating was broken - but we knew he was just being cheap and didn't want to turn it on. It was miserable and frustrating. I would not recommend anybody give their business to this hostel after that experience but avoid in the off season at all costs!

I stayed here in Summer whilst travelling through Europe and whilst it was generally okay, I probably only got about 3 hours of sleep a night because it was so hot in the room, and the fan didn't reach my bed. No really common area and the location was average. I'd say it would be fine during the cooler months, but definitely avoid during Summer.

I booked and paid on-line. I also emailed to let them know that I am a wheelchair user and that I would need a grond floor room if no lift at property, as I usually do.

On arrival, outside property steep stairs with no handrails. About 9-10 steps. Bell at top of them. A passerby had to ring the bell for me, then I was helped up the steps by him. To make a long story short, the young male manager (said he was the son of the owner) refused me access to any room as he said he had taken a dislike to me and he didnt think I was an appropriate person to stay there because I would be too much trouble being disabled and also, that I was too old, not a young person, and the hostel had lots of parties and noise and he didnt want the other guests being uncomfortable by my presence and my disability. Told me to leave the property at once. I insisted on staying until the neighbour who had told me about the hostel arrived and spoke to him in Greek. She told me she could not dissuade him about throwing me out. He also refused to pay my money back. She said he was being very insulting about my wheelchair and about me being overweight. That it was best if we left. Then a guest spoke to the manager telling him to calm down and that he was discriminating. The manager then began shouting at me at close range, about 50 cms from my face and then about 20 cms from my face, telling me I was causing him problems and to get out of his property. My friend got very nervous and asked me to leave with her, as she feared he might become physically aggressive too. Other guests remonstrated with him, until they got him to go back into his office, Then a lady arrived, who said she was the owner. She spoke with him and in the end came out and told me she was sorry but \I| must leave as she could not get her son to obey her and calm down. Extremely bad way to arrive to Athens, extremely bad impression of the manager and place. Totally unprofessional, Actually dangerous.

I miss Myriam, Helen, George and of course the Terry mister. Between the long term residents and the staff (the one woman army that is Myriam who is always happily at your service), you will really enjoy the social atmosphere and the very clean environment. They are fun social and take good care of you, they can become your best of friends.
