The Art Hotel looks very out of place in a extremely run down area of Athens, unlike the buildings surrounding it which are dirty and covered in graffiti the Art Hotel is clean and looks like a classical building.

Once inside the interior looks tired and doesn't look as good as in the pictures on its website. Checking in was easy, thou we were told we had to pay local taxes this was not the case because its a classical building. The lady on reception was very friendly pointing out various places on the map to visit, places to eat, where the metro was which was a great help having never been to Athens before.

The room was clean with a bed which could be a double or 2 singles, there was a tv, small fridge, wardrobe, plenty of draw space and a stand for a suitcase.

The bathroom was large with a bath and shower, it had hair dryer plus a plug for an electric shaver and large mirror. There wasn't much space to put out toiletries. The most of putting part for me was the bathroom door it was glass, it had no lock and didn't fit into the door frame properly so you could see into the bathroom plus hear everything that was going on. Which would be ok for a married couple, but for a family with children this could be an issue. This is why the hotel lost a mark.

The breakfast was a typical continental breakfast consisting of ham, cheese, cereal, youghet, bread, jam which was cherry and absolutely delicious, hard boiled eggs, tomato, cucumber, tea, coffee and juice. There was no limit on how much you could have.

There was a couple of issues with the room the bathroom sink got blocked and the toilet seat came off, but both issues where fixed without a problem. The room was cleaned every day with clean sheets and towels.

It was easier to walk up and down the stairs than use the lift.

Overall it was a nice clean hotel with friendly helpful staff and i enjoyed my stay, but was it a 4 star hotel maybe for its location if it had been in a more expensive part of Athens probably not.

After reading many reviews, some positive and some negative, about this hotel before my one night stay in Athens, I will try to put some nuance to the story.
To be honest, I only paid 38 euros for this room, so I judge with this price in mind. Regarding the location of the hotel, even if the neighborhood is not the most chic of the city, you have access to all the places of interest in a few moments.
It is a simple hotel, with touches of originality in the decoration and swimming pools that are not large.

We arrived very late and had a wee wait to get in. The guy that met us was polite but commented on the fact we were late. I explained that there was only one flight from Edinburgh ! Once we unpacked we wanted a couple of things to drink and snack on. there was no tea and coffee making facilities and only an empty fridge. We asked at the front desk for a shop and he directed us to one just down the road, he then cautioned us to come straight back as it was not a good idea to be out late in the area ! not a good start. The room itself was clean but basic and the tiling round the bathroom was in dire need of attention but the shower was great and we got clean towels every day. The safe was unusable because the previous occupant had closed the door meaning only they could open it meaning we had to carry around all our money and passports with us, we asked for more pillows three times and none appeared. All that said the hotel is well placed to get to the popular attractions, the furthest we walked was 30 mins. the Hop on hop off bus is 10 mins away. The staff were polite and were more than happy to give you advice and directions. This hotel is definitely a one star. It is a busy road so make sure the windows are closed at night. The worst noise problem was other guests who really didn't care as they walked along in the corridor and shouted at each other. The pool is tiny and is round the back and there is no sun.

We stayed here one night before our cruise and I can honestly say I have NEVER stayed anywhere worse in my life, if was a NO STAR hotel, we booked a twin room, we got a single bed and a camp bed! There were no towels, soap, or tumblers in the room. The camp bed collapsed when brushing against it so you can imagine what it was like to sleep in! The pillows on the bed were so dirty we had to wrap a towel around them before sleeping on them, that was after asking the reception for towels. To be fair there was a telephone inside the shower, probably to call reception after you noticed there were no towels in the first place! We arrived after midnight so realised we couldn’t find another hotel to go to. Didn’t even stay for breakfast because of the state of the place. Avoid at all costs don’t look at the pictures on their website they must have been taken years ago, I would agree with other reviews we should have checked ourselves and read them before travelling.

The best part of this hotel were the helpful staff at reception.
The pictures shown on Booking.com must be old.
They were renovating which didn’t help
No value for money here, best to pay $10 more a night to get better accommodation elsewhere

Traveled to Athens at the beginning of this year (Jan 2020). Decided to stay at the Art Hotel despite being concerned over some of the reviews. I had talked to my travel agent 3 times after seeing scary reviews and he assured me the neighborhood and hotel was good. We walked from the bus stop to the hotel. About 2 blocks before the hotel the neighborhood immediately became extremely scary. Dark with groups of men hanging out in corridors. Got to the hotel and went to the room where as soon as we walked in it was terrible. Run down. Black mold all of the bathroom. Dirty towels. Stained fridge. Batteries showing on the save. Duvet barely covered the bed and the duvet within the duvet cover was about 2 feet shorter. Complained to the front desk. He took us to another room which appeared to be under construction with stains on the ceiling. Told him this was not acceptable which he was very polite and helpful. On the way down the elevator broke down and we were stuck for 30 minutes. The front desk guy was very polite and apologetic, however, unless they do a serious upgrade, I would not recommend anyone every stay here.

I wrote a review here right after our trip to Greece in Jan, 2020. We arrived late in the evening, had to walk through very scary area to reach the hotel. Checked in, went to our room. It was so bad, we didn't want to touch anything. Mold in the bathroom, duvet didn't even cover half the bed, dirty, safe was falling apart...down right terrible. So we went to reception. He apologized and took us to another room. This room was better but under construction. Not any where near a 4* or worth the value we had paid. So we said no this was not satisfactory. The receptionist and ourselves proceeded into the tiny elevator to return to the desk. It broke down with us in it. We were all stuck for 30 mins. (keep in mind we had just arrived from travelling overnight from Canada). At the desk the receptionist and a woman that seems to be more senior, apologized and asked what they could do. We said there was nothing, that we have to leave and need to cancel all our stay. After 6months of our travel agent fighting and waiting on this hotel to refund our money, they refuse to admit that it all even happened. I have pictures and we were literally on the phone with the travel agent while stuck in the elevator. Now we are stuck trying to fight for our money back. This is the worst hotel experience I have ever had in my life. Avoid this place like the plague.

On arrival this hotel seemed pleasant from the outside. Having said that, it was all that was pleasant. The room we were 'sent' to was awful. The doors onto the balcony wouldn't shut, the bathroom was filthy, the bed was one mattress laid on top of another and the bed linen appeared creased and grubby. Finger marks from previous guests were everywhere and consequently we immediately left! The manager was very apologetic but did understand our frustration and offered a full refund to our tour operator providing we didn't put photographs on here! Read all the reviews & make your own decision but in our opinion you would find better & cleaner accommodation elsewhere.

We stayed for one night. Hotel is in a poor area and a poor state.
We arrived late at no fault of our own and asked night reception if we could get a drink. This obviously upset him and snapped back at us for daring to ask.
He then did the same to another couple who had come from their room and dared to ask for another towel.
Room was filthy and had not been cleaned for a long time. Broken furniture and broken window so couldn’t shut it.
Bed was very uncomfortable and I didn’t want to risk getting under the covers for fear of what lay beneath. I used a towel as a blanket.
Lots of outside noise and I think the hotel kitchen was hosting the Greek glass smashing championships that went right to the wire as it only ended at about 5 am. Luckily for me I didn’t need to suffer peace and quiet for to long as the door bell ringing championships kicked off almost immediately.
Not sure who won this but whoever did certainly knew how to celebrate and started screaming with joy.
I have never stayed in a hotel as poor as this, I could have trashed our room and caused about £500 worth of improvements.
Do not be taken in by photos online this place needs to be avoided at all costs.
