Came to Marina Hotel in late July of 2021. For the price, this place was great. It's a 15 minute walk from the Plaka (tourist) area. The metro and busses are close by and if you're willing to sacrifice being outside the center for quite a few dollars, we highly recommend this place. It's a place to lay your head, has AC, WIFI, free breakfast, and a wonderful staff (Ioanna was great). The one downside is it may seem like it's a sketchy part of town. There is always a security guard on duty, but we never felt in danger. I've traveled in worse places. Let's just say this place isn't for the family of four carrying Gucci, it's for the budget traveler that's looking for comfort, hospitality and doesn't mind a SHORT walk to the spots. Thanks again Hotel Marina and Ioanna!

Budget room only 10-25 mins walk from lively eating areas and main Acropolis . The staff were great and room dated but clean with a fridge and a large comfortable bed (but tiny bathroom 6x3feet and a door only 18” wide?) Breakfast was ok but awful coffee and limited seating. Wifi was ok, air con struggled (even in Oct) and the ‘balcony’ was a joke and the telly useless. BE WARNED though - outside the hotel is surrounded by needle littered streets with junkies shooting up and very intimidating at night so I wouldn’t recommend if you’re vulnerable!

The location is a bit rough but then again much of Athens seems like New York in the 80s so if you're from a big city this isn't anything that you're not already used to dealing with and they have a security guard out front. The location was actually very convenient to restaurants, shopping, sightseeing etc. ... clean, and incredibly quiet room. Helpful friendly staff and decent breakfast spread. For the price I would definitely stay here again.

Hotel is nothing like the images on their website. The room and bathroom was falling apart and didnt look clean. The lift only fits one person and suitcase at a time. The buffet breakfast was terrible. The location is very unsafe feeling and not close to anything worth seeing. Would not stay here again.

We were pleasantly surprised by how clean the hotel is with in-room kettle etc. The hotel gas undergone a recent refurbishment and the room equipment is new.

The night receptionist was very helpful with good English. I wanted to eat with my two kids but the restaurant was shut. However, the receptionist gave us a good take-away menu and put in the order, and you pay on receipt. He even gave us a corkscrew for our Vergina wine (Makedonikos) upon request and efficient printing off of boarding passes.

The next night we ate in the restaurant and the food was good, as was breakfast - the first hotel to offer eggs, bacon and baked beans :)

Only drawback is the neighbourhood full of migrants, but just keep your possessions close and walk in company as the other commentators suggest.

If you want to stay close to the archaeological sites, I would not recommend this place. It's about a 25 minute walk in a very bad part of town. I did not feel safe, and cut our night short and chose to come back to the hotel before nightfall for that reason. The hotel itself offers a restaurant and bar that was not open other than their breakfast which did not look appetizing. The room is a lot dingier than the advertised pictures as well (I believe they used a filter). The price may be enticing but it’s worth it to look elsewhere.

What can I say....Pleasant hotel, average room, no tea/coffee making but shower hot. Balcony looked out onto run down building. Safe did not work & hotel staff weren't concerned. Breakfast mainly continental, with some sausages, bacon & beans but not more than warm, if you got there after 9:30 (breakfast served to 10:30am). Back to outside, what an experience, hotel was in a side road which appeared to have its own set of drug takers & dealers. I witnessed them each day, evening & at night drugged out of their heads. However, I was with my husband and as long as we kept to our side of the road, they didn't interfere or bother us to be honest. Upon leaving the road the hotel was on (Always turn right to get to main road!), you came to a lovely area fantastic restaurants, shops etc. So, worth the experience & felt sorry for the hotel, as you probably wouldn't choose to go again. Do not go as a single traveller or with children. Safe as a couple, better in a group & you will be ok as long as you stay vigilant & don't wonder off the main road or return to the hotel too late at night.

Go inside and you will find a good hotel at reasonable price. Clean rooms and very supportive staff. Good clean small restaurant available. A 5 star service. Very close to the city center touristic destinations. Once you exit the small not so fancy street where it is located, you are at the heart of the city.
Room walls are not well insulated for sound but it depends how important is this for the visitor compared to other high charging hotels.

Honestly, me and my boyfriend were dreading staying at this hotel after some of the reviews. The hotel staff was lovely, the rooms were clean, however most of our concern was based around the area it is in. Don't get me wrong, it is not pleasant, however no where near as bad as described. If you have thick skin, are not sensitive to drugs, homeless people, or live in a city yourself - you will be absolutely fine! We were not bothered or spoken too by any of those surrounding the hotel during the day, we did feel slightly uneasy on an evening so we did uber in and out for the 2 nights we stayed. Basically, if you want a cheap clean hotel, with breakfast WHICH WAS GREAT and only a 10-20 walk from the centre, 25 min walk from the acropolis - this hotel is for you!! We also found the graffiti very cool. I appreciate this is only our experience and I am not taking away from what anyone else is saying but don't be too put off.

We stayed one night before departure and wanted some cheap accommodation. The hotel is quite beautiful and the lady in the reception was extremely helpful and friendly, no matter what we asked. The room was clean and comfortable, with working airconditioning and light-proof curtains. The area is a little dodgy, but it's walking distance to nicer areas and to the hop on/hop off busses.
