Detailed Reviews
This hotel is a bit tired and the room I had needed updating especially the shower area especially the shower head.
It has a 24/7 check in which was great as my flight was late and I got there at 02:30. Member of staff was polite and helpful. Don’t forget you will need to pay €3 per room per night city tax on arrival.
That being said I have to say that room was a good size and very clean. It was serviced every day. If you can choose a room ask for one on the outside of the building as my view was a fire escape...
You can’t access the roof at mo as they are working on 5th floor rooms. Pity about not getting pic of Acropolis at night from there :(
The breakfast was a buffet which was fine as you could have as much as you like. I took tea bags back to my room as two is not enough, even for a solo traveller, if you don’t drink coffee.
I didnt try the hotel dinner buffet as there are plenty of places to eat in Athens.
There is a metro station about 10mins away that takes you to Syntagema Square right at centre which is terminus for all transport.
Would use again but just be aware it’s not usual Best Western posh standard.

Dear Oggie Dee, Thank you for your review. We appreciate your kind words about our staff. The tourist tax is indeed 3,00 Euros per room, per overnight and is payable either by check in or by guests' check out. The hotel's management as part of a refurbishment program and willing to reposition the property having left the Best Western family has decided to not only renovate the Roof top area for which a specific online notification informing all guests about it but also proceed to a gradual refurbishment of rooms. The official opening of the Roof top area will take place in May 2020. Last but not least and in case guests wish to receive more tea bags for their room they can attend to the Front Desk Department. We look forward to welcoming you next time you will be visiting Athens. We would value your input regarding the upcoming changes. Kind Regards GUEST RELATIONS DEPARTMENT

Hotel complaint
Receptionist - 3 different receptionists were rude in different ways. From lying to us when asking questions about the room to sarcastic comments to just clearly showing they would rather be anywhere else than assisting a customer.
The AC was not working on the first night. I was then told it was because I used the remote and that AC units here stop working if you change any of the settings. My wife had to have three showers through the night to stay cool enough.
Some of the bar staff were rude. There was a different quality of cocktails depending on which staff member was making them. The lady working behind the bar was wonderful however.
I booked online to include a welcome signature cocktail. However it took asking three members of staff to get this. Eventually a (very grumpy receptionist with a large mustache) said okay we can have it, so wrote an instruction to the bar team on the back of a metro map. Unfortunately we were told that the only option was then to have a mojito but the alchohol must be ouzo. (Only a preference but I don’t like Ouzo and it made for a vile mojito
The breakfast was not up to a good standard. There was plenty of variety. Unfortunately most of the cakes were dry, the hot food was all cold, the milk for cereal was warm. This is not at the end of breakfast but closer to the beginning of the breakfast times.
This is a shame because the pool area was good and the room was clean and mostly comfortable. I spoke to other guests at the bar who had other issues such as being told they had to check out for a day then check back in to a different room because the hotel screwed up their booking.
The issue was the pool area was realising that there were people there who were not staying in the hotel. They were multiple people heading to the top floor without any booking at the hotel (they were laughing about it) meaning that anyone in Athens could just pop to the pool and hotel. I was then not comfortable with the security.
The internet was poor. In part this hotel was booked because it boasted internet and even an internet corner. Unfortunately I had some work to do whilst away but when it takes over 4 minutes (yes I timed) to load my email page on any of my devices then doing work became impossible. Possibly the worst Wi-Fi in Athens.
Although the actual shower was nice to use, after less than 5 mins it flooded the bathroom making using the toilet etc just before sleeping a painful experience.
All in all, would not return due to rude staff, poor breakfast, multiple amenities not working and extras being booked become a hassle rather than a pleasure.
Some of this may sound a little picky. However, when paying extra for a nicer hotel than a hostel you expect certain things to work. As an FYI other hostels I have used in Greece have had much better service, amenities, breakfast as well as being able to deliver on their booking for a fraction of the cost you charge.
All issues were presented to the hotel during our stay and there were no apologies

My family and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights.
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. One of the highlights was the location, it was only a 5 minute walk to the hop on hop off stop. The staff were absolutely fantastic, super friendly and extremely helpful. They ordered us a taxi and made our stay even more enjoyable.
The rooms were alright, a bit outdated but comfortable.
We loved the roof bar, where u could overlook athens and the pool was enjoyable when it was quiet and no kids running around.
Breakfast was also quite good, your traditional cuisine was on offer.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone touring Athens.

No good reason to stay here. Front desk has a mean disposition. Rooms are frumpy, ugly and dated from 1950s maybe. Drapes don't even cover the window, so you can't make the room totally dark. Lack of electrical outlets except by door/washroom area. Poor lighting, uncomfortable beds, toilet takes several tries to flush, TV is tiny with screen size like a laptop; very little English channels. Buffet breakfast is a disaster with terrible croissants, over salty ham/spam meat, hard-boiled eggs weren't cooked right ... very disappointing.
The elevators are a real joke straight from 1920s. Elevator buttons get unselected at a whim ... very slow and confusing.
Bottom line ... Book elsewhere!

I stayed at the Hotel Candia with an educational tour group of 47 at the end of July, during the hottest part of the summer. The hotel has an amazing view of the Acropolis and is fantastic at night. The pool was cool, but small, more of a plunge pool, it is a bit misleading in the pictures, but nice none the less. The kids were able to use it and cool off. The food and drinks at the rooftop bar were good and reasonably priced. The rooms were clean, the bedding was on par with other hotel bedding. The sheets were normal cotton, clean, cool and comfortable. The AC worked well and our rooms were cool. There were some issues with one elevator not opening on our floor, but the other one worked fine. The hotel is not in the greatest location, but I never felt unsafe and even walked to some nearby restaurants with incredible food for dinners.

Small shower tray with curtains. You can barely move in the shower without sticking to the curtain. Clogged and dirty sink. The shower support was broken and after complaining they told us they would fix it.
Acceptable buffet breakfast.
The best is the pool and terrace. Magnificent views of the acropolis
The dangerous zone. Full of drug addicts shooting themselves.

Stayed has it was booked by our tour company! When I saw our room I was literally in tears it was like a room from The Bates motel ! Painted wires bathroom from the 70’s cracked sink! Tiny room complete with blue shower curtain that l expected the old lady from the shining to be behind! The only saving grace was the roof terrace view & pool and the lovely staff up there! They do have 4* rooms although most were 2* then the cheek to have to pay a room tax of €7 ( going up to €10 next year) the area is a awful and Athens itself feels like a ghetto having travelled extensively though Greece won’t be going back to Athens ever

Checked in late to the hotel no problems at all, got given a ‘upgrade room’ for free. This was very nice and glad considering the reviews on the standard rooms.
Didn’t try any food or breakfast so can’t comment.
Snack bar on the roof was reasonably priced and well equipped.
Staff were friendly. Would stay again
Pool was rather small and chilly not able to swim more like a plunge pool. (Photos can be a little deceiving)
Taxi’s to and from the centre are reasonably priced + there is a metro station little less than 10 mins walk away. Walk is a little sketchy at night but felt safe!

This hotel offers an excellent service and clean facilities. The staff are friendly, professional and efficient and they are taking the current coronavirus situation seriously. The hotel is a two-minute walk from the Metaxourghio metro station, which is very convenient. We had stayed there before and hope to go there again in the not-too-distant future. Thank you!

Dear Helen D ,
Thank you for your message. You can find guidelines on the hotel's website.
Furthermore, there is the possibility to arrange directly with the hotel an airport shuttle(there is also a link that can be found on the hotel's website)
Last but not least there is another alternative. To take the suburban railway from the airport and disembark to the stop LARISSIS station. The hotel is 200 metres away from it.
Kind Regards
GUEST RELATIONS DEPARTMENT
Dear Emma S,

Dear Nick K,
Thank you for your message. There is a safeguarded private parking place within a short walking distance(the parking space is located in Karaiskaki square). The price to be paid is 10,00 Euros per night. You may also find around the block but we suggest for security reasons to park it on the parking place we suggest.
Kind Regards
