One cannot argue in fairness or accuracy that this hotel isn't a brilliant choice at its budget price point. It is clean and relatively comfortable - except for the bed which offers little support to anyone with even a minor back issue. The mattress is clearly a cheap one, matched by the poly-cotton sheets. On the plus side, the handheld shower had decent water pressure and we had hot water whenever we needed it. The hotel also provides some toiletries - which certainly not a luxury brand, do the job and at this price point it was a lovely bonus. The breakfast included in the rate consisted of orange juice, tea and coffee. Nice breads, margarine. some yoghurt, cheap but edible ham and cheese. There was a salami offering too - but too pink for my taste. I remember boiled eggs too and there might well have been some cereal. Tinned fruit and some small pasteries. I list these only because the breakfast has been described as 'great' by some. We ate it once and then didn't bother again. However, it is perfectly fine and a credit at this price point. The star of the hotel is the wonderfully friendly and efficient Maria. We arrived extremely early after our early hour arrival to Athens with the request that we be allowed to leave our luggage at the hotel until check in time. Not only were we allowed to do this, but we were also permitted to check in early. We dumped our bags and wandered off to find coffee and yoghurt. I notice some other reviewer had whined about the missmash of furniture in the rooms. The furniture is perfectly serviceable and it is clear the owners have put some thought into the decoration and content of the rooms. There is zero to complain about in terms of cleanliness or service and the Dionysos is an absolute bargain. As far as the area goes, we had no issue in Victoria. The area might not be the greatest, but we felt not at all threatened or concerned when walking about. Except for the blasted bed I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

I left the Dionysos Hotel today after spending 7 wonderful days. When I first booked this hotel, I wasn't sure what to think after reading some reviews which I believe now are unfair. I was on a budget for this leg of my Greece trip as I booked a pricey stay in Santorini for leg two. From the moment I arrived - hungry and tired after a 10 hour flight, one of the gentlemen who runs the hotel Patrick was very welcoming and friendly. The check-in process was quick and concise which I appreciated. My room was very spacious, clean, had a large bed and A/C! That is very important in Athens in the summer! The washroom was clean, there are a decent amount of channels on TV and WiFi with a great signal is included. This hotel far exceeded my expectations for the establishment rating which it had. The location is conveniently located near Victoria Station - two Metro stops from the heart of Athens as well as the same line as the Port Metro Station Piraeus. The hotel is close to the Hellenic Motor Museum and The National Archaeological Museum. There is a wonderful supermarket two minutes away. As a female travelling alone, I never felt unsafe in the neighbourhood. Maybe the area is not the cleanest but I always felt comfortable walking the streets alone. If you are thinking of staying here which you should, please don't slam your door, some guests had that tendency and it is quite rude and inconsiderate. Thank you to Patrick and Taki for your hospitality and for making me feel like I was at home. I hope to visit again soon!

We were meant to stay at the Dionysos Hotel in Athens. We made a booking on ebookers and prepayed the whole amount only to find the hotel shut upon our arrival in Athens in the evening. We were standing in front of locked doors for over an hour trying to get in....Called the owner dozens of times but nobody would answer the phone.
Obviously we had to search for another place to stay and pay again.
NOT RECOMMENDABLE!!!

My stay at Dionysos Hotel was very lovely. The team was very nice and helpful, especially Patrick, one of the owners, who was able to help me with recommendations, ordering taxis when I needed it and a friendly face to see when I come to the hotel. It is very close to Victoria square which has a verity of food options and also to a near by subway station which could then take you to other places in Athens. the room was comfortable and warm and I enjoyed every moment of it.

WORST HOTEL EVER!!!!!!

This hotel is honestly the worst place you could stay. We stayed only 1 night and only picked this hotel because it was cheap (under €30). When we arrived at the hotel the owner asked for a €250 deposit..which we thought was steep in comparison to what we actually paid for the night but we were told that the money would be refunded as soon as we checked out and we had no reason to not believe him. As we were leaving the next day however, his story had now changed and we were going to get the money back ‘within 30 days’. Again thought this was strange but we had no time to argue as we had to catch a flight.

After this, we emailed him about a week later asking if the refund had been processed...no reply. We then waited for the 30 day mark hoping the money would be refunded to our account. Nope. On the 30 day mark, we called the owner. He was not helpful at all, he was very rude and full of lies. He refused to provide a receipt of the refund and wouldn’t even admit that any money had been taken. He then even went on to say that he wasn’t even at the hotel so he couldn’t look up the details even though we had called the hotel. LIES!

At this point we contacted booking.com (who we booked hotel with). They were helpful but we still had to jump through a lot of hoops to try and get the money back. We had to call multiple times, send in bank statements, and wait over 2 months. However, we are very happy that boooking.com was able to assist us as the owner of Dionysos Hotel is a horrible horrible man who will steal your money.

The hotel itself is also dirty, run down and in a terrible neighbourhood, where you do not feel safe. He acts very nice to your face but do not fall for it.

DO NOT STAY HERE.

On my credit card there was reservation of 250 EUR as security deposit. After couple of days, this amount was charged. After several e-mails and phone calls the hotel answer was that we went a tour with them. Furthermore, they made fake invoice with my name and the amount. This is really not the hotel for the recommendation

They are criminals and they will steal your money. To be more precise, they will steal 250€ of deposit that they will ask you upon your arrival. Moreover, the hotel stays in one of the worse side of Athens.
The owner is kind fake. Also the bus service is false, you pay but the bus at the airport will never arrive.
A place like this will fail soon.

Our experience of this hotel was appalling.

We booked last minute on Hotels.com as our airbnb host cancelled on us. When we arrived at the hotel, we were told we needed to pay a €250 deposit (which we thought was a joke!).
We obviously were not in a position to pay such a unjustifiably large fee, so asked if we could cancel our booking (it had been made 30mins previously).
The receptionist (rude) said that it was out of his hands and to talk to Hotels.com.
This was not in fact the case.
After much communication with hotels.com we were informed that Dionysos were refusing to refund our money, and Hotels.com were more than apologetic for this.

Basically, the entire system is a scam, and the area is absolutely disgusting. We saw 2 different people smoking crack and were flashed within one block of the vicinity.
The receptionist was incredibly unhelpdul and patronising, especially considering the stressful circumstances we were in.

Also: I'd never pay the security depoist of €250 as he said "it could be 14 days.... could be 30 until you get it back..." basically you'll never see that money again.

Response from Patrick M, General Manager at Hoteleros Dionysos - Athens
Responded 19 Dec 2017
Dear Andrew A, First of all, thank you for your second (!) bad review. First i didn't wanted to respond to your review but i will do it now... I am sorry that you felt that the staff was very rude, and this is certainly not our goal. Having said this, i wish you would have told me this during your stay so i could identify the problem. Reason why i am saying this, is because a Greek person can be very nice in their words to a guest, but they have a certain way of talking ( loud etc etc ) maybe this came over as rude, and i am really sorry for the fact that you felt this way. About our furniture, yes you are correct, this is not the same as you would see in a big expensive hotel like the Hilton. But i can honestly say that the all is very clean and we take pride of this. The goal for our hotel ( me and my husband are the owners and yes we are gay ) is to be a hotel, where you get the best possible service and a good price. Yes you can book the Hilton, but tell me this, do you get there the same personal attention as that we are providing? I do not think so. Hereby i would like to invite you to come back to our hotel, and lets have a talk together about what we do not do good in your eyes. After all, we do not have all the wishdom from the world.... Kind regards
