Maison Albar Le Monumental Palace: This five-star hotel deserves every star and more for its beautiful décor, refined elegance and dedication to a superior guest experience. From start to finish, staying in this hotel was a truly memorable and pleasurable experience. Every member of the staff was personable, friendly and genuinely interested in making sure that we enjoyed our week in Porto. The concierge desk was very helpful both during and even BEFORE our visit, providing suggestions on local points of interest and making reservations at charming, traditional restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. The front desk and front door staff were wonderful and friendly, providing us with excellent walking directions (and making sure we had hotel umbrellas on the rainy days and evenings!) Miguel in particular was extremely helpful in pointing us to some “off-the-beaten-path” destinations and old-style, family-run restaurants. Speaking of food, the hotel’s complimentary breakfast was superb, including the buffet with a wide array of choices as well as the daily specials from the chef and the a la carte menu. The woman serving as maître d’ for the breakfast was charming and pleasant, and our favorite waitress, Sara, made sure that we started our day on a high note. We also were extremely impressed with the spa and indoor pool, which we used every day. The steam room and sauna were immaculate, and the locker rooms provided robes and slippers and a full range of toiletries so we could relax and enjoy the experience; we felt truly pampered. We also enjoyed the in-room coffee and the small “treats” that were left for us each night by the turn-down service. We have traveled extensively for both business and pleasure, and can honestly say that Maison Albar Le Monumental Palace is one of the most luxurious and lovely hotels we have patronized. We highly recommend this hotel, and would eagerly return here in the future!

Truly one of the best hotel experiences I've had. I booked 3 nights through the Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts program for a birthday trip and loved it so much that I ended up booking 3 more nights.

The hotel has a lovely old world glamorous appearance and service to match. The high ceilings in the room made it feel relatively spacious and the bed was very comfortable.

The staff went above and beyond at every step. I arrived to a bottle of sparkling wine and several tasty treats, including a birthday cupcake in an adorable glass case with a candle. Each night there was a small local gift at turndown, which was very nice. On my final day, I inquired about how to book train tickets to Lisbon and they printed me a schedule, told me to choose a train, and physically went and purchased tickets for me, which were ready at check-out for a nominal fee. Incredible.

I absolutely loved the spa. My massage was great, but it was even better to just go relax each afternoon by the pool and enjoy the serenity. The pool area was always nicely maintained and never overcrowded (though I was there in the off season).

Breakfast was also great. It was included daily in my rate and there was a large buffet available as well as a number of a la carte options. I loved that they had kombucha as that's pretty rare to find. On my birthday morning, the breakfast staff brought me over another cupcake, which was so nice.

Overall, I would highly recommend staying here if you're in Porto.

If you want an elegant, modern hotel with fabulous service and a perfect Porto location, look no further!
We stayed here for five nights last week and wish we could have stayed longer. The rooms are spacious, the best bed and bath linens we experienced throughout Portugal, fabulous turn-down service and a wide variety of menu options for breakfast. The location of the hotel makes for easy walks to so many areas, yet provided a quiet experience inside the hotel. From the minute we checked in, they provided a very positive, memorable experience. We will definitely stay here again, and will encourage anyone traveling to Porto to select this hotel for their stay. It was truly AMAZING!

Very bad experience, definitely not a luxury hotel. Room price per night €800 for three nights €2,500 including taxis. Arrived at the hotel at 9:00 a.m., there was no porter there yet, had to carry suitcases from the taxi to reception myself. Checked into the room less than a minute before 3:00 p.m. and why didn't I receive a text message on my cell phone as soon as it was ready as promised. So why do I have to give my cell phone number, what is the purpose of the hotel? Nobody accompanied me to the room, I didn't know how the sophisticated technology there worked, electric curtains are not a criterion for 5 stars. Breakfast coffee comes from a large thermos flask like in Alaska, made from leftovers. Catastrophic breakfast buffet, minimal selection: mineral water uncooled, bread selection all frozen and still wet from defrosting, except for the croissants, which were good. Long wait for hot dishes, soft-boiled egg instead of hard-boiled for four minutes. Very small buffet selection, cheap cold cuts, cheap cheese, lettuce under the cherry tomatoes that had been wilted for at least two days. Limited fruit selection, no grapes in Porto and only imported fruit. During our stay we never saw a host. There is only one seat in reception, if it is occupied you have to stand next to your suitcases and wait for the taxi. This is not a five-star hotel, but a group hotel for American guests. In the room there is a giant mirror with a small TV three meters high. The room was so dark that you couldn't even see the laptop keyboard, there was no real light, but the bathroom was bright enough. Why is this hotel not checked by "The Leading Hotels of the World"? It deserves 4 stars or less at best. The architecture should not be the deciding factor for the stars, but the service and friendliness of the employees. The only friendly people were the porters. This hotel must definitely be downgraded from the 5-star category, it is a hotel without any luxury, apart from the beautiful rooms but without the cramped reception. I am very disappointed with The Leading Hotels of the World.

My wife and I stayed at this beautiful hotel in Porto recently.

We really liked everything about our stay - right from the check in till we departed to the next destination. The location of the hotel is also very good and we found it to be very central to many things. Lots of nice restaurants and bars are within walking distance.

The housekeeping team did a rather wonderful job in keeping the bed and bathroom very clean. The only minor hiccup was that they did not pay attention to the coffee maker area and did not clean out the used cups etc. Otherwise all in all a great job by them.

The team at the breakfast area were always smiling and giving amazing & attentive service.

During the check in, we were assisted by Mr. Rui Rodrigues who gave us his contact number and also sent us message about nearby restaurants and other attractions. he helped us make a dinner booking at a nice Italian restaurant nearby and also arranged a local Tuk Tuk tour for 2 hours the next morning. Whenever I would send him any message, there was an immediate answer which was indeed very helpful.

There was a certain sense of freshness about the whole property and I can compliment the management and the whole team across the hotel.

Coincidentally, one of my close friend was also planning a trip to Porto a few days after I had left and I strongly suggested him to stay here. We later met in Lisbon and he was full of gratitude and thanked me repeatedly for having made this suggestion as he said that he was treated like royalty. I told him that my wife and I also had thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality here and this is why I had recommended him to stay here.

Hands down a great hotel worth visiting back when I ever go back to Porto.

My first impression of Le Monumental Palace was that it reminded me of those European hotels from the 30s and 40s. I could almost imagine a murder being solved by a curious Belgian or war time spies liaising at the bar. It’s a beautiful space with an art deco style to it. The room was very large especially in comparison to the current trend towards “boutique” style hotels and I adored the rain shower in the equally spacious bathroom. The TV behind a mirrored panel was very cool and I liked being able to connect to its Bluetooth system to play some of my music mixes.

The American Bar was equally fab and the martinis near perfect.

The staff were friendly and obliging and I appreciated their assistance with our check in.

A few minor concerns. The room was overly warm for me and I could never get the temperature down to 19c although I was told if I gave it time, it would reach that temp which is the lowest the system could go. It was also very dry in the room so the complimentary bottles of water were very much appreciated. For such a beautiful room, some softer lighting would have been appreciated. They got it right in the hallway between the bedroom and bathroom but the bedroom area lighting was just a tad too harsh for me.

My biggest point of contention, and again this remains minor was the oppressive scents in many of the common areas, especially the lobby. My partner likened it to walking through a department store perfume floor. These scents are also present in the provided body wash.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the questionable art work in the lobby. I don’t know the context of the piece but I felt this statue of a Black peasant boarders on racist.

The hotel is superbly located, allowing you to walk to the main points of interest in the city (although it is advisable to return by taxi, since the slopes of the city are very respectable). It has its own parking that is accessed directly from the hotel, which does not happen with other hotels in the area. The rooms have a slightly ornate decoration, but they are very comfortable. However, the most notable thing is the friendliness of the staff, their permanent attention and the efficiency with which they resolve any unforeseen event. And without forgetting breakfast. Without a doubt, the best of all those I have had in a hotel (especially for its hot dishes, both sweet and savory).

Nice establishment and pleasant stay however spoiled by a lack of heat in the room. We had to call the reception every day to increase the temperature setpoint in the room because it went back to eco mode piloted automatically by the back office...
This operation is totally unworthy of a 5 star who says he cares about the well-being of his customers!
The bar was a cooler where we had a drink (one, so...) wrapped in our coats.
Special mention to the restaurant where the chef and his wife are always at the top!

From the minute you walk into this place, you sense the warmth of the staff and the special care they have for you. Personalization prior to the visit (extra espresso etc.) and the same applies when you arrive. You cannot beat the location of this hotel it is walking distance from all the major places you are likely to visit during your trip to Porto. When you are here, perhaps splurge on one of their suites. We were in the intense suite and it was splendid, especially when you combine it with the amazing service and has a balcony ocerlooking the main city hall and area of Porto. Wonderful place and team!

What a lovely hotel! The doors and carpets are thick. I never heard another door open or close or anyone in the hallway. The bathroom was very well laid out with double sinks and nice glass shelves for storage in the center, a toilet room to the right and a spacious shower stall to the left. The sink area could be open to the rest of the room or could be closed off. There were two USB ports on each side of the bed. The TV/mirror was very cool! The breakfast room was lovely and the food was delicious. I especially enjoyed the chef's daily egg (fried with oregano and tomatoes one day, scrambled with truffles the next). Staff was friendly, efficient and helpful. The location was great, with lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance.
