We were four holidaying in the city of Funchal and chose Castanheiro because of it central location - we weren’t disappointed. We arrived around 2pm to a very warm welcome and a complimentary glass of Madeira wine from the friendly team on the front desk who had also allocated our rooms next door to one another in what turned out to be a very quiet part of the hotel. Rooms were spot on! Clean, spacious and very well appointed with incredibly comfortable beds and efficient air con. In fact I have no complaints at all about the hotel, the staff, the rooftop pool, the bar or the restaurant. Unheard of! Thanks to all the staff for their assistance and great service - we had a great stay and the location couldn’t have been better. Don’t hesitate to book Castanheiro.
Travelled late Feb early March Lovely hotel Attentive staff Relaxed atmosphere Found a cake in my room from the hotel on my birthday which was a nice touch Loads of fruit at breakfast Nothing too much bother. Had cramps one day and they found me a water bottle,,, Thanks so much for a fantastic and memorable trip
We love this hotel and would always stay here when in Funchal. Everybody we encountered from the reception, housekeeping and breakfast staff always go above and beyond to ensure people are satisfied and happy with their holiday. We had a lovely big room with a small balcony which was lovely to sit out on whilst enjoying the Madeira that was left in our room on our arrival. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to friends and family wanting to visit the lovely Island of Madeira.
My wife and I stayed at the Castanheiro Hotel in Funchal for a week in February. It’s a very nice hotel. The staff are excellent, friendly and helpful and the service is very good. We stayed in a Junior Suite. The room was huge and including a free standing bath and a couple of lounge chairs and table area. The use of the huge amount of space in the room wasn’t great - a massive empty area of floor between the end of the bed and the dressing table seemed wasted (perhaps a sofa would help to fill this?). There was a also a small balcony but we didn’t use this much as all balconies faced inwards and it was a bit of a fishbowl. The pool area on the roof was great and the real highlight was the spa, specifically the masseuse in there - from Austria and a real professional who knew her stuff. Breakfast was included but to be honest, wasn’t anything overly special so we ate out for breakfast some mornings. We didn’t use the lounge bar once - it was pretty much empty most of the time and lacked any atmosphere plus the live music playing in there was awful, like something from a 1980s working mens club in the UK. Okay, so much of the negatives above are down to our own personal tastes and preferences. The majority of the other guests were much older than us so the hotel would probably have been to their liking (no disrespect intended ). It’s a nice hotel, just not perfect for us. …
We stayed for two weeks booked through TUI. We had a Studio room which was perfectly appointed and very spacious with a large bathroom and nice balcony. The breakfast was great with lots of choice. The pool area and sun deck ware lovely. We enjoyed the bar. I would recommend the jazz and tapas evening. They catered for my husbands gluten free needs very well. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. This is a lovely hotel, perfectly situated with excellent service. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back.
"We stayed in room 217. We had the sun all day, but we had a flight of stairs to climb to get to the room."Read full review
