We stayed at this small hotel for the second time. It has quite a familiar atmosphere. The staff is very friendly with an utmost kind and personal service. Even the pool area and its bistro is very tranquil and relaxed. The rooms are spacious and functional furnished. And a special highlight ist the vast hotel park: a real botanical garden with plants and trees from all over the world well tended. And all this functioned extraordinarily well even in emergency time because of Covid-19. As the hotel is situated on a plateau above Funchal a shuttle service takes the clients in regular intervals down town and back to the hotel.
A beautifully presented smaller hotel on the outskirts of Funchal ,set in extensive botanical gardens with wonderful views. The staff are attentive and friendly , always delivering first class service.
My partner and I booked the hotel after reading a glowing review in a national daily last year and we were not disappointed. Sometimes the a 4 or 5 star hotel is flattering for a hotel, not Quinta Jardins do Lago. Everything from the professional & courteous staff (who couldn't do enough for you), food & drink and the stunning gardens was perfect. We will use this hotel and the overall experience as benchmark for our future travels. We plan on returning sometime in the not too distant future and we look forward to it.
Five years ago I had a wonderful dream : i was on holiday in a well preserved mid-eighteenth century manor hidden in a classified lovely botanical garden with tropical and subtropical trees and flowers and a peaceful little lake .In the sunshine a Galapagos-turtle was feasting banana ´s from the connecting vegetable garden and quiet people was enjoying the healthy water of a clean swimmingpool with inviting terrace . No wonder that this little paradise was very well kept and managed : an extremely kind staff was every day doing his utmost for the guests from very early in the morning until late in the evening .Every day they were offered delicious breakfasts and marvellous diners prepared with high quality bread , fish , meat , cheese , vegetables and fruit without pesticides that partly was gathered in the garden.... One year later my dream became realized in a two-weeks holiday in the splendid Quinta Jardins do Lago. That wonderful experience resulted afterwards in marvellous holidays every year until today in this house of excellence ! In this way we really live in hopes that we shall be so lucky to enjoy still during many years all the qualities of this excellent hotel! Indeed this precious historical , botanical and cultural heritage , preserved wih meticulous care by its very professional team and kind mascot turtle Colombo deserves without any doubt his 5- stars award and selection as the first of the 25 Top Luxury hotels in Portugal together with his 6th place in the Top 25 Luxury Hotels in Europe and 16 th place in the World !! It was a "special occasion" and friends had recommended this hotel over and above the better known luxury hotels in the seafront area. The outlook from those hotels is of further high rise hotels hugging the coastline. The outlook from THIS hotel is just beautifully manicured grounds and facilities, PLUS of course, their resident giant tortoise!!

"Ground floor fine, good size but a bit dark. Better view of gardens higher up would cost more."Read full review
