Unfortunately my girlfriend and I were unable to make our holiday to Madeira, where we were booked to stay at the Quintinha de São João, due to the Corona virus pandemic. The hotel staff were however extremely accommodating in assisting us; they couldn't have been more helpful and for that we are very grateful to them. We send them on all our best wishes, and very much hope to make a proper return in the near future.
Where do I start! Quintinha São João is like a home from home, the staff are so welcoming, friendly and helpful. I had an unexpected stay in hospital during our time in Madeira and the welcome I received from all the staff on my return was a real tonic! I cannot thank them enough, they were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. This lovely hotel has large and beautiful rooms with comfortable beds and balconies overlooking the well tended gardens. Everything is spotless. There are 2 swimming pools, one inside and one outside, with sun loungers and a pool bar. There is also a small gym and a spa where I had the best and least expensive pedicure that I have ever had! The breakfasts are lovely with a substantial buffet and freshly cooked hot dishes. The meals we had in the evening were also excellent. We enjoyed many relaxing hours reading in the very comfortable lounge and on the outside terrace and chatting with the friendly bar staff and other guests. We are thinking of you all at Sao Joao during this difficult time, let’s hope it won’t last too long and that we can return to see you all again later in the year. And, very important, a big thank you to you all for your help during our crisis.…
We hadn't realised we were in for such a treat when booking this hotel through Broadway Travel. I'd echo all the positive comments made previously. The staff are quite remarkable. The food is beautifully presented and delicious. Seaweed butter was a particular treat that we couldn't get enough of together with the most delicious bread. The rooms are spacious and immaculate. We loved the many nice spaces to sit and chat or read and my husband enjoyed beating me at table tennis every night!
The hotel has something of an English country hotel. Room was delightful with balcony. The grounds are pleasant and contain a spar and outside pool and sunbathing area. Also an indoor heated pool available which is lovely and warm. Bar meals available most of the day and can be eaten al fresco. Breakfast has a very good choice of buffet style food plus a great variety of hot food to order. The main restaurant opens at 7pm in the evening which is a bit late for us we would prefer 6pm.
We are just back from a week with Quintinha Sao Joao and are feeling very concerned for all the staff there! It does not feel right to be leaving reviews of a holiday when they staff and management are facing such difficult times, but when this virus is done, we will definitely be going back there! The whole team are absolutely fantastic, in all areas; reception, restaurant, bar, spa, gardening and housekeeping. The hotel is immaculately clean and very well maintained. The food is top notch - breakfast has both a buffet and kitchen menu for hot food freshly cooked. We had half board and the evening meals were fantastic! My hubby is a fussy eater and was a bit concerned about not liking the options, but the kitchen did a great job of finding him alternatives. Thankyou all very much…
