This was our 4th visit to Maderia and our 3rd stay at this hotel. Our holiday was booked in advance and so unfortunately when we flew out on 13th March we did not anticipate what was to come that week where the Island was pretty much closed down by the time we left. Even though, I would hightly recommend this hotel for its great service and beautiful sea views. The staff did the best they could in the circumstances who made sure we were registered for our changed flight, which we did not know about. We were unable to go on any trip because of the Covid19 virus but this didn't spoil the holiday. The standard of food was not great this time but this was due to the Covid19 virus which we fully understand - on the previous occasions we've stayed it has been great. The hotel was clean, it is in a great location for shops, bars and restaurants. Our room was on the 9th floor which made the view even better. Madeira is a beautiful island and i'm looking foward to my next visit.…
We visited the hotel on the 13th March for a week's holiday having previously stayed there. We had paid for a dine around experience, spa, live music in the evening etc. Although the Island was experiencing problems due to the corona virus the hotel closed all restaurants with the exception of the Ocean, closed the gym, the spa and had no live music. We were astonished that the management did not have the courtesy to put a note under our door to offer their apologies and perhaps suggest a treat for the disappointment. On a positive note the hotel is clean and our maid exceptional (9th floor Tower 2), the views from our balcony were breathtaking.
Pluses. Brilliant sea views in most rooms. Brilliant restaurants to eat close by. Good reception staff. Ok room. Average bar. Good bathing facilities. Didn't have to fight for beds. Minuses. Poor quality food in the main restaurant, cold. None of the restuarants open. SPA closed. Gym closed. Town closed. I have stayed in many 5star restaurants, but this didn't feel like one, the cold poor quality food, especially in the main restuarants, didn't cut it for me. Maybe could have been the global pandemic, but I don't think it was as prior to closing down Funchal, the food and service was just as bad. Staff didn't seem friendly, except one or two.
This hotel is very good, my room was lovely and spacious very clean, staff where excellent, and where the hotel is its in a great place for pubs and restaurants.Only one down fall for me is the dinning area its like a dinner hall far too busy busy for me..... So would i return too this hotel .....yes i would ..and yes would recommend this hotel.
Spent a week at this lovely hotel. We chose a suite which had a separate bedroom for our son, with a beautiful sea view from the balcony. The food, at breakfast and dinner, was varied and tasty. We used the pool area each day, where there were always more than enough sun beds and a lovely view of the Funchal coastline. The walk into pretty Funchal was pleasant and the lido area nearby offered a good choice of shops and restaurants.
