The multi-award-winning Lisbon Lounge Hostel is the perfect place to call home during your visit to our fantastic city. It is the first hostel in Lisbon, opened in 2005 as a project by four Portuguese. From the beginning the concept was simple: to give backpackers a first-class Lisbon experience at budget prices. Through the years we have continued to improve our service, and we were recently voted the best Small Hostel in the World 2010 and 2011 by Hostelworld. Our services include free walking tours, free nightlife tours, bicycle rental, mini bar and free coffee and tea all day. For a low cost you can join other guests for our three-course hostel dinner, cooked by our talented Portuguese chef. Were located in the heart of Lisbon's historic Baixa district, the main tourist centre of the city. With so much on offer, you will have everything you need to have a comfortable, memorable and fun stay in Lisbon. We look forward to welcoming you to the city we love.

The location at this hostel is wonderful, it was easy to walk to Alfama and to the big train stations from there for our day trips from the city. Lots of restaurants and shops surround the hostel, and there are dinners you can join at the sister hostel, Living Lounge Hostel, a couple blocks away. We had a private room, but other guests seemed quite happy in the dorm rooms. There were several communal spaces, and adequate shared bathrooms for everyone. The free breakfast was lovely, with coffee, fresh crepes, nutella, jams, butter. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the hostel was clean, and it was great value for money. Recommended!

Lisbon Lounge could not be in a better location. Train stations only a few minutes walk. Free breakfast is gooid value. Extremely friendly staff who are knowledeable about the city and surrounds. Hostel is very clean and tidy, pleanty of lounging space and a bottle of beer at E1.50 is good value. Sister hostel, Living Lounge, which is a couple of blocks awy hads nightly 3 course dinners, including wine, for E15.00.
Would highly recommend this hostel.

Excellent accommodation option in Lisbon. The hostel is clean, with large and comfortable rooms.
The breakfast exceeded expectations, with many options of breads, fruits, juices, coffees, cereals, yogurt and even freshly made crepes.
The staff is the difference. They truly welcome travelers as if they were family. I highly recommend booking a dinner night to interact with the staff and other guests. We had a lot of fun!

1/ location: right bang smack in the middle of the main tourist strip. a short walk to everything and you’re spoilt for choice for food options. if you wish to cook in, there are grocery stores nearby.

2/ room: i stayed in a private room meant for 4 people with an en-suite before moving to a 3 bed dorm with a shared bathroom, which were all in the top floor. the private room is spacious and the en suite adequate. the 3 bed dorm had 3 single beds lined up in very close proximity to each other which felt rather weird if it were 3 solo travellers sharing the room. both rooms presented similar problems - (1) there was nowhere to hang clothes, no hanging hooks or racks and (2) the lighting in the rooms were very poor. i get the effort to create a warm cosy ambience but it’s hard to see properly when looking through your bag for example. while i love the character of old wooden flooring, you can hear every movement outside when someone is coming to your floor. hostel mates who lived on the lower floors feedback they can hear all movements from the floor above as well. if you’re a light sleeper, you will likely be impacted.

3/ common areas: very cosy areas to hang out in on every floor, which was great. and on the main common floor, you can play tetris, strum the guitar or read very comfortably. the kitchen was adequate although i did not try cooking anything fancy there.

4/ other amenities: the free brekkie was adequate and substantial but don’t expect anything fancy. the free walking tours with wild walkers are fantastic, make sure you do both (they each cover a different area of lisbon). we covered good ground and i found them informative.

5/ staff: this is a little tricky. they were definitely helpful and polite. however they are a little more reserved than the usual hostel staff that i come across. one small concern i have is when i was in the three bed dorm (i was by myself that night) - a staff walked into my dorm without any prior signal like knocking at 8:30am. he saw that i was awake and clarified he was checking to see if he could direct a guest trying for an early check in into the room. if the timing was later in the morning, i would not have felt so uncomfortable but i did not think it was appropriate for a staff to walk in unannounced at 8:30am.

The most natural, kind and dedicated staff ever!!!
Totally relaxed, authentic atmosphere. Right in the center yet quiet at night. Great, relaxed breakfast atmosphere with chat "around the world" - if you like.

First of all, I'm not writing this review to be snarky, negative, or out of anger. I'm writing because I use this site a lot for my own travel research, and I want to give back by providing travelers with my honest feedback.

My first 3 nights in Lisbon I had already booked at the Equity Point Lisbon, before I had read an article on "Haute Hostels" in the New York Times that lauded Lisbon Lounge. So when I added a night in Lisbon, I was excited to "upgrade" to this hostel that sounded so chic and luxirous. I wanted to try the fabulous gourmet dinner for 10 Euros, and experience all the glamour and style that everyone raves about in the reviews. Well, the whole thing was a disappointment. I vastly preferred the Equity Point.

The first thing is the location. The EPL is an extremely advantageous spot that is at the crossroads of all the main neighborhoods- Chaido(shopping) Bairro Alto (the nightlife area), The Restauradores/Rossio squares with Metro (central), and the Baixa (downtown) is a 10 minute stroll. Lisbon Lounge, however, is deep in the Baixa, near the river. This area is historic and crawling with tourists and business in the day time, however at night it becomes DEAD and it's pretty creepy. If you want to venture to the nightlife or even find an open restaurant, you have to walk through the sketchy streets and uphill for about 20 minutes. I did this to find a meal, because the gourmet dinner happened to be cancelled the night I stayed. I wanted to go get a cocktail, too, as the Lisbon Lounge hostel only sells bottles of beer. It has no patio or veranda to drink on, either, so the smallish lobby area is PACKED with young people who want to get drunk but don't want to deal with the long uphill walk to the bar area. On the other hand, the Equity Point has five times more communal space, 4 Euro cocktails of all types, wine, beer, port, etc for even less, and an enormous veranda. Even better, EP was a 5 min walk from the main nightlife area, so much easier to pop over.

The next main issue was that the "free wifi" only worked on the 2nd floor where the lobby was. I was staying on the 3rd floor- the wifi didn't work in my dorm room or in the communal computer lounge up there. So I couldn't skype home to my boyfriend at all, because the only place with working wifi was the crowded and LOUD lobby area on the 2nd floor. Conversely, at EPL I could skype from anywhere including this great private "tv room" that was always empty and quiet.

The staff was also less friendly at Lisbon Lounge. They didn't do anything wrong, they just weren't as warm and genuine as the peeps at EP. They certainly didn't care that the wifi wasn't working upstairs, they just said "it's supposed to work up there." Well, it didn't. When I checked in, I was told that not only was there no dinner that night, there were no group activities like they usually had (Fado Tour, etc). I guess I picked the wrong night.

I think this hostel is enjoying a great reputation because it's got stylish decor, and the people who stay here are enjoying Lisbon without a basis of comparison for the hostel. One girl told me "this is the nicest hostel I've ever been to!" I smiled, but I didn't tell her that I was wishing I was still at the Equity Point, which was much, much nicer. (And happens to cost less.)

Location, Space, Wifi, Staff, Bar....all subpar. The best thing about the Lisbon Lounge (besides the hipster artsy decor) was the breakfast. I'll give the lounge the edge on the breakfast. :)

This hostel was great. The feel you get as soon as you are are shown your room is amazing- the decor is done superbly, the rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, there are multiple shared living spaces, the staff were helpful, the hostel is clean, the wifi was fast and worked everywhere in the hostel (not just reception) and the breakfast had some gooood pancakes every morning. However, there were a fair few negatives I feel need to be mentioned:
- the street is very loud which can wake you up quite early if you don't shut the windows
- the windows stream in light, so in order to get any sleep you need to close them, and then the rooms can get very warm
- the whole bed shakes when anyone walks around the rooms, especially the top bunks, which was really annoying when people came home late
- the shower heads were broken, so had to hold the shower up yourself. Easy to fix problem - so hopefully they get onto that
- while most beds had power points nearby, mine didn't, so setting an alarm at nighttime was hard to do when you wanted to charge your phone and not wake everyone else

Also, all our groceries kept getting eaten when left in the communal fridge/kitchen, and I spoke to other guests who had the same experience.. This is obviously not the hostels fault, but was very frustrating!! So we started to keep our food in the room if it didn't need to be refrigerated.
Overall, however, I did enjoy my stay here and the positives do outweigh the negatives. Note- there is much public transport nearby.

My mom, sister, & I really enjoyed our stay at the Lisbon Lounge Hostel. We were only there for 2 nights but they were delightful! We were greeted by a nice man working the front desk, and he was so patient & helpful with us. As we looked around the lobby, we were really impressed by the overall vibe of everything. The decorations were very unique and we really felt that warm traveller's feeling that you get. The rooms have everything that you might need. We were in a 4-bedroom room. Very clean, same with the bathrooms. Plenty of lounge space as well. A/C was included too! This is BIG!

The best part about this hostel was its location. We were right in the center of everything that we wanted to be. You won't find a better location than this hostel! The only downside is that it may get a liiiittle noisy at night since it's on a busy street with restaurants and bars, but it really didn't bother us too much at all.

I would definitely recommend this hostel for your stay in Lisbon. Such a great value!

Absolutely excellent hostel, very clean and modern and comfy beds. BUT we ran into trouble when cooking meals - they serve a dinner for €10 a night (excellent value if you're not a a strict budget!) but being super budget travellers couldn't afford this every night. Unfortunately, the meal is cooked for 15-20 people a night and the whole kitchen is pretty much a no-go zone from 7-10pm or later depending on the level of conversation happening! So kind of prevents you from cooking. Just keep this in mind if you're cooking your own meals.

Also wifi doesn't work on the 3rd floor.

Other than that, one of the best hostels we've stayed in :)
