If I could give this hotel 6 stars, I would. The staff is amazing, knowledgeable, so helpful and very funny. They enjoyed helping me and my husband as we navigated the city and seemed to like hearing about our experiences as well. The hotel is located perfectly with access to the river, Baixa-Chiado metro, the shopping and dining areas you need as well as hundreds of restaurants. The food is amazing at the BAHR restaurant as well, and the view towards the river is sublime.The rooms are small, but well decorated, maybe a little too many small pieces of furniture as sometimes you have to move things to get to the window. You can open the window/doors and have a view as well. The bathroom is luxurious with all you could need and the shower is excellent, with lots of hot water. The only thing I didn't care for is the mirrored WC which is separated. I really don't think anyone wants to see themselves on the toilet, and the space is not large enough for you to check out your outfit! Good products and hairdryer as well. Nice robes. The lighting in the room and bath is controlled by switches and makes for a good comedy routine. Bottled water (large glass bottles are provided daily) is available. The fitness center is gorgeous and seems to get very little use. I used it and there was also water and apples there. In fact my only suggestion would be a tray of apples in the lobby which are very handy to grab as you go out on a day of sight-seeing. Honestly can not say enough good things about the staff. Really lovely people who seemed generally interested in making your stay wonderful.

My wife and I spent four days at this hotel while visiting Lisbon last week. Simply put, it was one of the finest hotels we have ever stayed at anywhere in the world. Our suite was ideal in every way: spacious, comfortable, charming and full of small thoughtful touches that truly separates this hotel from others. The bathroom was large and had dual sinks and also had a stall shower with rainfall shower head and a large bathtub. Flavored waters, fresh fruit, pastries, candies, cherry liqueur, and flowers were delivered to room each day. Though our suite faced the busy square, it was very quiet and we never heard traffic noise.
The staff is gracious and welcoming. Our concierge set us up with private tour guides and made reservations for dining and fado shows. The location of the hotel is perfect, in easy walking distance from many, many restaurants and a few minutes from the great shopping of Chiado and Bairro Alto, The Bahr restaurant on the fifth floor served wonderful drinks and food and the rooftop restaurant was the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast overlooking the Tagus River.
We had high expectations and Bairro Alto Hotel exceeded them in every way.

This is the best hotel you will find in Lisbon and most likely one of the best hotel stays I have ever had anywhere. I expected something much more simple. It located in a very nice area, the Old town, and the hotel building is beatiful (also seems to be newly renovated). The room interior is a perfect mix between modern and a more classic portugese style and every detail has a thought behind it.
The breakfast is unbelievable and offers newly baked croissants (baked at the hotels own pastry shop on the ground floor). The room service food is on of the best room service food I have ever had and the staff working here are highly professional (the service is flawless).
Personally I avoid hotels in "old town" areas because they usually are crowded and pretty basic (even when they are 5 star) but this hotel has it all.

Absolutely loved the Bairro Alto Hotel! Recently renovated the rooms are fabulous, new and luxurious. The staff was amazingly helpful and friendly, could not have been nicer and the hotel is in an absolute perfect location for touring Lisbon on the border of the Chiado and Bairro Alto districts it is easy to walk pretty much anywhere in the city. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and the rooftop has gorgeous views of the city and a great place to either relax and unwind at the end of the day or go for an after dinner drink, dessert, tea, etc. Perfect perfect hotel would highly recommend!

We spent months researching our trip to Portugal and Lisbon offered a number of great hotels, so it what difficult to choose! In the end, we selected the Bairro Alto Hotel and were so glad we did. The hotel is in a very central location with easy access to tours, great restaurants and places of interest. Our arrival was delayed for 10+ hours due to flight re-routes and we had not slept in nearly 36 hours by the time we got the hotel. Adding frustration was delayed luggage. Needless to say, we were tired and grumpy upon arrival, but the delightful front desk staff welcomed us with warm smiles and one member of the team even waited outside to help us locate the hotel arrival area since we were driving and having trouble figuring it out. We were treated to a sample of Ginja upon checkin (perhaps they could tell we needed a drink?!) and promptly shown to our room. We requested a corner room at the time of reservation and found our room overlooking the Camões Square to be perfectly charming and cozy. The high ceilings allowed the high windows to fill the space with great light and we enjoyed the fresh air. Fresh baked treats awaited and the room had all the amenities we could ask for. During our 5-night stay we enjoyed amazing views from the rooftop bar, dined at the restaurant (BAHR) for dinner and the outdoor space for breakfast multiple times - all of these spots offer incredible views of the Tagus River. We even enjoyed the coffee bar off the lobby. Requests for extra pillows and iron/ironing board were promptly honored, valet service was prompt, and the front desk even helped us get a reservation at a restaurant out of town. Attention to detail and desire to make sure guests are happy and comfortable were notable… never have I stayed in a hotel that actually has a pillow guide card from which you can order a variety of pillows! Despite its location in the busy Bairro Alto area, the rooms are quiet… even our 2nd floor room with 2 windows was quiet when the windows were closed… which was a good thing as people make use of the square until early morning hours. We would love to have had a higher room in the same spot to minimize the noise from the square when the windows were open. We found the hotel to be modern, clean, centrally located and “boutique” in vibe with highly personalized and obsessively friendly service. HIGHLY recommend!

I had the great pleasure of staying at this fine hotel recently in the Tejo Suite. The suite was stunning .. a flawless execution of design and soft furnishings that delights the eye at every turn and provides comfort and an elegant sense of cozy.
The full bathroom (there are 1.5 baths) is fully marble clad, with a large double shower and a soaking tub.
And the included breakfast ... FABULOUS! Reason enough to stay here ... the breakfast is heads and shoulders above anywhere else in town, and a far cry from the breakfast buffet popular all over Lisbon. You can order a la carte off a comprehensive breakfast menu, and items are made to order. The eggs Benedict were terrific, and the chocolate/almond croissant was an inspiration of crisp buttery crunch -- just the way it should be ... no soggy croissant here!
And the location, in the heart of the Barrio Alto is wonderful for those who wanter this neighborhoods small winding streets. I couldn't recommend this property more!

The hotel is conveniently located and very accessible to shopping and several of the sights of Lisbon. We had booked the Chiado suite but were kindly upgraded to the Tejo suite upon check in. The suite has contemporary decor and is brilliantly laid out with lots of storage space and a walk in wardrobe in addition to the bedroom, living area, bathroom and WC. The service was excellent and the room service food extremely yummy. Lovely terrace for drinks and a breakfast area / restaurant with a view of the river. Overall, a wonderful experience and highly recommended.

My mother, a family friend and I stayed here for several days all agree that this was one of the best, if not the best, hotel experiences we have ever had. The hotel feels intimate and boutique, yet provides sophisticated service. The rooms were beautifully appointed and comfortable, and service at the desk and front doors was gracious and helpful. The restaurant is *excellent* - some of the best food we had in Lisbon; they take traditional Portuguese ingredients and dishes and add modernistic, creative twists that are delicious and interesting. The location is also great, on a hill in a historical neighborhood with lots of small restaurants, cafes and shops. There is a chic and cozy lounge area where you can relax with a beverage and some sweets from the shop off the lobby. Staying at this hotel added a glow to our entire stay in Lisbon. *Highly* recommend. The only tiny issue was the controls for the lights and curtains in the room were confusing and hard to operate. Other than that, a real delight.

The hotel is extremely well located and walking distance from everything in Lisbon. The decor is chic and modern, but still retains a lot of traditional Portuguese character. I was constantly reminded of the Pulitzer Hotel (in Amsterdam). The rooms are all recently updated, and very well appointed with thoughtful design touches including wireless speakers, mini fridge, coffee makers, etc. The bathrooms are also all wonderfully updated. The rooftop is a a huge draw and provides absolutely fantastic views of Lisbon. The rooftop breakfast is also excellent - extremely high quality with wonderful views. What I really felt set the Bairro Alto apart was just the absolutely fantastic level of service we received from everyone from the doorman to the cleaning staff. Priscilla at check-in really set the tone for our entire stay going out of her way to help with reservations, covid testing, directions to shops, restaurants, etc. They are also extremely kid friendly and left a daily treat for our kids. We left with absolutely no complaints and a promise to return to Lisbon and to the Bairro Alto.

Depends on the kids I guess, it was spread out and quite sophisticated.
Yes, there are elevators to the upper floors and to the roof. I did not see washing machines or dryers but there is laundry service.
Email the hotel directly. I believe they will not be open until fall.
