The InterContinental Lisbon, an IHG hotel, garners high praise for its exemplary service, with staff members who exude professionalism and warmth, though a few guests have encountered inconsistencies. The hotel's amenities, including the highly regarded club lounge, are celebrated by guests, as are the comfortable rooms with their breathtaking views, despite some feedback suggesting the bathrooms need refreshing. The location is appreciated for its accessibility to transit and local attractions, though it's not directly in the city center.
Reviews are mixed on value, with some finding the hotel pricey but others convinced of its strong value proposition. The cleanliness throughout the hotel is consistently lauded, with guests impressed by the meticulous upkeep.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
Great room; we stayed on 18th floor that had a winding staircase with an outside patio. The patio was very large and had a fantastic view; it was wonderful. The beds were comfy and we were able to get an extra single bed brought in as there were 4 of us. The bathrooms were great with the rainshower head and sprayer, large soft bath towels and robes. The only thing that was disappointing is that the window on the main floor only went 1/2 way up the wall and there was no window on the 2nd floor bedroom; however you had the door that opened up to the patio on the 2nd floor. It was a fantastic room. The staff was great and quick to respond to any requests we had. Great place to stay. It is close to a park; restaurants, but seems to be more in the business district; however we walked all other to stores etc. Lisbon is very up/down so you are always walking up or down and on uneven ground/bricks. Fantastic place; just wear comfy/walking shoes and be ready to have some steep uphills and downhills.

Response from João Rocha, Proprietário at InterContinental Lisbon, an IHG hotel
Responded 29 May 2023
Dear PatS170, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us! We're thrilled to hear that you had a great stay in our hotel and enjoyed the unique features of your room on the 18th floor. The winding staircase and outside patio with a fantastic view sound truly wonderful. We're glad to know that the beds were comfortable and that we were able to accommodate your group by providing an extra single bed. We appreciate your feedback about the windows in the room. While the main floor window goes halfway up the wall, we hope that the second-floor bedroom's door opening to the patio provided a pleasant alternative. It's fantastic to hear that you found the bathrooms impressive with the rainshower head, sprayer, large soft bath towels, and robes. Our staff takes pride in providing excellent service, and we're delighted to learn that they were great and quick to respond to any requests you had. We we're glad to know that you found the location to be convenient and managed to walk to nearby parks, restaurants, and stores. Thank you again for your kind words, and we hope to welcome you back for another fantastic stay in the future. Kind regards, João Rocha Guest Service Experience Manager InterContinental Lisbon

From the very first encounter, the staff here went beyond the usual good service to make our stay extra comfortable. My husband travelled ahead of us and had arrived at the hotel early. They made another room - not the one we booked - available to him so that he could nap and get cleaned up while waiting for the rest of us to arrive. We visited during the Christmas season and received the same superb service on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Everyone was ultra polite and pleasant! And the location right across the street from the Christmas market gave us a beautiful view of the decorative lights.

We loved this hotel. Yes, it's a bit further away from the touristy areas (about a 20 minute walk), but that's definitely a blessing in disguise (you'll understand when you're there). Excellent service, staff, and appointed rooms. The breakfast options and service were very good as well. We had a double connecting room (2 bathrooms) which was spotless, very well appointed, and had great views of Lisbon. While we walked to most of our destinations, we used Uber and taxis at times which were efficient with very reasonable prices.
The only (very) minor negative was the room lighting was a bit lacking (as are many hotels), but this would not keep us from returning.

I had previously stayed at this hotel 20 years ago when it was Le Méridien. I was impressed by the quality of the rooms 20 years ago, but I am even more impressed now. Although the hotel was built in 1986, it hasn't aged, either architecturally or internally. When I searched for hotels in Lisbon, I was delighted to discover that it is now an InterContinental in which I have diamond elite status.
As a result of my diamond elite status, we were very gratefully upgraded to a junior suite and enjoyed free breakfast and late checkout. The rooms are very well designed and furnished, as well as being very quiet. Everything is perfect, including details such as the size of the safe and the provision of flannels and bars of soap, which other 5* hotels can get wrong.
The standard of service at this hotel is fantastic and delivered by extremely friendly and helpful staff. Service at breakfast was particularly impressive, most of all Idalina, who was very welcoming and keen to fulfil every request for any food or drink that was not on display.
The hotel e-mailed me shortly before our stay to ask a number of helpful questions such as our arrival time and the reason of our stay. We were spending the weekend in Lisbon to celebrate my birthday, and the hotel very kindly left a bottle of sparkling wine in an ice bucket in the room for our arrival, as well as cake. We asked the concierge to book a restaurant for us, and even though I hadn't told the concierge it was my birthday, the restaurant recognised my birthday with a celebratory dish. The hotel impressed me even more as a result.
The only downside of the hotel is the location, which is not ideal for tourists, but there are no 5* international chain hotels in a more central location than the InterContinental Lisbon, so it's the best location available. One upside of the location is good views, even from rooms on mid-height floors.

Everything was really great, we enjoyed our stay and wished we had several more nights. Nice greetings at check-in made a good start to our journey. Room was spacious for the family with 2 kids (junior suite). Modern design and separate small wardrobe space advantages.
The club lounge was really amazing with the attentive service and delicious food. We were eagerly waiting 5 o’clock to be there for small tapas and drinks. I would say one of the best lounges I’ve ever encountered.
Hotel location near park and close to subway station is convenient, taxi ride to airport took us not more than 15 minutes.
There are many small nice things in Interconti Lisbon which make the stay comfortable and enjoyable, my family was happy with the choice of the hotel this time.

5 star hotel located in the business district.
Great views over the park and city.
Friendly check in and from front of house staff.
Rooms beautifully equipped and very, very clean.
Only downside was the breakfast buffet. There was an EU Conference and the delegates ignored rules in terms of sanitizing and wearing masks, too important! Gloves were provided for customers but again ignored.
A serve yourself buffet is not sensible at this stage of recovery unless rules enforced to keep everyone safe.
It is a business hotel an a long walk uphill or a taxi ride from the old town.
Apart from breakfast a great hotel

We stayed for 4 nights and had a very pleasant time. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout. We were upgraded to a junior suite, which was appreciated, although I would not have expected to have to ask for this, being an IC Ambassador member, and with the hotel being mostly empty.
The IC Lounge wasn't open as it was being used for breakfast, which made sense given the low occupancy. The gym is of a decent size and actually better than average. The location is good and it's very easy getting anywhere using the extremely cheap ride-hailing services in Lisbon.

The building is lovely, immaculately furnished. The plumbing works well. The breakfast buffet was excellent and Vanda, the host, was delightful and David, a server was solid. However, the front reception interactions fell way short of the usual standard. It's the first time I have ever had a night's accommodation charged to my card in advance of arrival.
As an Ambassador member, I expect to be welcomed and to be informed of key facts, like breakfast hours and location, etc. None of this was done. I believed I had booked a club room with lounge access (so breakfast included) but when we asked where the lounge was, we were told it was closed due to Covid. I wasn't offered the choice of a welcome drink or points. We were told that our room had been upgraded. Maybe it was, but it was the meanest, most imperceptible upgrade possible. Our experience at other ICs in Europe has been to be upgraded to a suite.
On our last day, I went to reception to check we could exercise our right to a late checkout. The receptionist was not at all accommodating and made out that he was making an exception for us.
At checkout, there was an issue with the bill. We had been charged the maximum rate for breakfast, not the 'offer' that other guests were given that we heard when checking in. After pointing this out assertively, a concession was made.
Whilst the physical aspects of the hotel are all good – condition, cleaning, facilities, etc. were fine, but our interactions with reception left a poor taste in the mouth. It wasn't that they didn't have the skills in English (all were competent) but their reluctance to smile, to be warm and hospitable and to treat us as valued guests. The best hotels know how to exceed expectations, whether by providing complimentary fruit or drinks but Intercontinental Lisbon was mean and looking to maximise their revenue without delivering a positive experience.
It's the first Intercontinental, in 30 years of staying with the chain, where I have thought 'I don't know whether I would go back'.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights as part of an extension to a tour booked by a river cruise company. We were delighted when our room was ready at 10:30 in the morning after an overnight flight from the states. The hotel was quite comfortable and very clean.
The staff wore masks at all times, but guests were no longer required. Service at the front desk, in the bar and restaurant, and room service was friendly and efficient. Only one morning was it difficult to get coffee poured at the breakfast buffet. The staff was handling both tourists and a rather large conference group so the restaurant was busy,
The rooms were comfortable and had great toiletries.
The hotel is located across the street from a large urban park with many activities and close to the major shopping district. It was a little far from this shopping district and from tourist attractions for my husband who walks with a cane so we took taxis to and from the hotel.

I loved everything about this hotel. The public spaces are gorgeous, the food is delicious and plentiful, and my room was amazing. The view, the design, everything about the Intercontinental Lisbon was five star plus.
But it was the staff, especially Rodrigo, who made my stay so special. They went out of their way to make me feel welcome and at home. Every little request was handled with care. Rodrigo was so thoughtful in making sure my room was perfect and even had a unique, beautifully designed amenity waiting in my room.
The club lounge served delicious food all day and into the evening.
The gym is really well-equipped!
The location of the hotel was perfect. What I didn't expect about Lisbon was how hilly it is, so the hotel is up the hill a bit, but so is everything else. If you don't feel like walking, an Uber to anywhere in the city is no more than three euros. Also, that little hill provides a welcome respite from the bustle of the city. Right across from a beautiful park, it is peaceful.
I can't imagine a better hotel in Lisbon. Thank you all for an amazing stay!
