We stayed for 4 nights in August 2020. The B&B is beautifully located in the hills around Monchique with stunning views stretching all the way down to the coastline. Each room has a little terrace where you can make the most of the views. The rooms are spacious with a huge bed and a large shower unit. In addition Claudia and her husband are wonderful hosts. They provide a great breakfast every morning with produce from their own garden and are more than happy to show you parts of their extensive property (including the donkeys and sheep that they have). All in all it was a great stay.

If you are looking for an off the beaten track hotel, this is your place. The bedrooms are lower ground, then look out over a wilderness of rosemary and curry plants, the aroma hitting you when you open the balcony doors. It is architecturally interesting and the bedrooms are good. Nice walking paths surround it, and the slightly intriguing fields below include some donkeys and sheep, and a hippy looking enclave! The owner is Greek and has that Mediterranean sense of hospitality, making one feel really welcome. Breakfast was a delight looking over the countryside, all the way down to far off Lagos,. We stayed B&B only but I think in higher season, evening meals can be obtained.

Agriturismo Vinha do Gaio is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature in the Algarve. The farmer who welcomed us was very friendly and clearly proud of the produce his farm provides. My boyfriend and I stayed in a brand new annex to the farm, in a room with a terrace overlooking the country side. From our terrace we could see Portimão and the sea in the distance. We spent a lovely evening with a bottle of wine and some snacks on that terrace looking at the colors of the sunset and the flickering lights of Portimão.
We loved the breakfast with fruit freshly picked from the garden. Some bread, charcuterie and cheese, a glass of fresh orange juice and home made yogurt were all we needed. The farmer always brought something extra from his farm for us to taste: small bananas, passion fruit and blue (!) tomatoes. Lovely!
The room was comfortable and clean and the bathroom was nice also. Loved the old fashioned vibe of the bathroom.
Worth mentioning: this is the first place we stayed in that offered different bins for recycling. Vinha do Gaio clearly is a eco-conscious place.
If you're looking for a place to relax and leave your stressful job behind you for a few days, this is it.

We staid there for 2 nights and we are definitely coming back. The architecture is beautiful, the views are stunning, it’s so nice and quiet, the breakfast is delicious and the owners are so welcoming and friendly.
The place is great as a base for hiking or just to relax and enjoy the silence.
As mentioned we are definitely coming back.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights and we wished we never had to leave! The rooms are beautiful and clean, with a nice terrace with stunning views. The garden is peaceful, perfect to chill out after a day at the beach. The location is perfect to explore both sides of the Atlantic coast. But what we loved the most is the way the hotel is managed. Antonio puts his heart and soul into this hotel. Antonio and his son have been so nice to us and especially to our son! Cesare misses you! See you soon!

A gorgeous place, newly constructed on a hillside with expansive views down the sea. The rooms are immaculate and of a high standard with lovely seating areas from which to enjoy the view. The stars at night are amazing! The owners are very friendly and committed to providing an excellent stay - breakfast is great - all in all it is hard to beat.

Very friendly owners, a beautiful hilltop spot, and architecturally and newly built boutique/agriturismo style hotel, offering quiet and privacy and beautiful rural views down to the (not too far away) coast. We only stayed for one night, to see the area - although ended up just staying at the hotel to enjoy the peace and views. We were shown around the grounds, and our (13 year old) daughter even got to feed the donkeys on one of the fields below. Olives, cork and orange trees surround. Lovely atmosphere and such an antidote to chain hotels. A lovely place to stay.

The property offers great views of the valley up to Faro and Albufeira, and is close to Monchique and its two peaks Foia and Picota. The drive to Momchique is sinuous and offers nice views of the hills and valleys. Picota, one of the "peaks" is covered by a mystic forest with beautifull oak trees. The drive up to the top through this wood is enchanting. Once you get on the top there's a 5 minute walk all the way up where you have a 360 degree view which on a clear day can go on for miles. Hiking through these woods must be great. The B&B is new and still expanding. For next year a pool is planned and this will be a great addition the many other qualities of the house: brandnew, clean comfortable rooms with magnificent views, airco, no TV (you do not need it here), individual terraces, helpfull and multilingual hosts. A great place to relax for a few days and a perfect hub to visit many towns and the cities nearby

We decided to travel to Monchique for a night on our trip to the Algarve. Vinha do Gaio was the perfect retreat from the action on the coast. It was a beautiful short drive from Lagos. The guest house is newly built on old family land. It is sleek and modern. The rooms are stylishly appointed with restraint. Massive picture windows overlook the spectacular mountainside. This place was, and continues to be a labor of love of Antonio and his wife. They built a lovely, sustainable place and Antonio enthusiastically tells you all about his adventures doing so. Breakfast is delicious and simple with home baked treats. If you are looking for an adventure off the beaten path to recharge and breathe some fresh air, this place is flawless.
