Detailed Reviews

Overall this hotel is okay. We got an awesome deal at about $80 Canadian per night which included breakfast and a session at the thermal waters pool/sauna/steam room. The location is in a very quiet area, with a few restaurants within a 15 minute walk. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The main negative is the noise from within the hotel. The walls are thin and if you have neighbours you will hear them. There is no carpet in the hallways and the doors slam very loudly which gets annoying and can wake you. If you’re looking for nightlife and excitement, this isn’t your place. If you want a quiet getaway it’s ideal. It’s also close to several nice hiking trails.

The staff at this resort was extremely unfriendly and made us feel unwelcome.
We arrived a bit early (around noon) and to their credit, they did allow us to check in early. We were told when we booked that we would receive a welcome drink and pastry which we did not receive (maybe because we checked in early), certainly not a deal breaker.
I'll start with the positives:
The area of Monchique is beautiful. Very peaceful and quiet, but also a bit remote so I would recommend renting a car.
The room was very nice. It was spacious with a nice balcony and large bathroom. The view from the balcony was lovely.
We tried to eat at the restaurant 3 different times and were turned away each time. The first time at noon (they said they opened at 1) . We went back at 2:45 and they said the kitchen was closing in 15 minutes and turned us away again. They told us to go to the bar across the street. We went to the bar and they said they didn't serve food (despite the menu on the bar saying they served food from noon till 9). They offered us stale pork belly buns which were terrible.
We tried the restaurant again that night, they seated us and gave us menus, but then the manager came over and strongly recommended we eat up at the hotel because they were having a themed Portugal night. We didn't really want to, but we were made to feel so unwelcome at the restaurant that we left. I should mention that the options for food are very limited as the area is remote and there were only 2 or 3 places to choose from.
In my opinion, it was the manager and staff that created an overall unwelcome feeling. I don't know if it was because they were coming into the "off season", but I would not recommend this hotel because of the staff. It's too bad because the location and the hotel itself, weren't bad.
I should add the manager seemed to be running the hotel, the restaurant, and the bar.

Disappointing. Staff polite and very strenuous, room seemingly clean, but the bathroom was in unforgivable condition, hair in the shower of the last stay(s) and, when I reported the situation to the lady of the reception, instructed me to send an email to the management, from which, after two months, I still did not get an apology request. Sorry.

Waste of money. I’m currently here now and after paying a fortune, they say we have to pay 15euros to access the spa. Okay fine, now we go to the spa and they say it’s 15 euros for 1.5 hours. They say it’s on the website but I searched everywhere çant see that. We also paid extra for a Luxury room and they only give coffee in the Suites which are 500 euros. Do not come here.

My room was Superior Suite. It is very good, very comfortable spacious and modern.
Staff...reception is nice.
Lunch at a few meters from the hotel + - 50 meters were very friendly
Breakfast... more than enough, and with variety.
I advise those visiting this hotel to first check the availability for the treatments ...massages etc.I advise to check first, so as not to get to the Hotel and at the place of the treatments have the sad information that there are no more treatments available in the period in which you stay in the hotel.
As a hotel I liked it.

Hello, I have just left the Monchique hotel, and I need attention to this complaint, I chose to spend the carnival holiday in a resort resting and I paid for it, we can't even call this place a resort and spa, we couldn't at least go to a swimming pool because it was disabled and dirty. The resort's restaurant served us the same dish for lunch and dinner every day, the same food and poor service. If the problem is not resolved here I will look for my rights, attached is the beautiful paper they offer us at check-in, but they don't say that any of this works. I spent money, I ate badly, I didn't relax, and I walked 300 km to do so

The hotel is in a beautiful location with several different types of rooms. It was supposed to be 4*. We stayed at the cheaper hotel although it was not cheap. The spa and treatment was good.
The service was terrible as there was no tea and coffee in the rooms. They only provided water on the first day. There was no room service in a 4* hotel!! The reception I our hotel was part time and you had to contact the main reception a 5 minute walk away, this was disconcerting for me.
The food at breakfast was less than adequate and they ran out of teabags on our 2nd day!!
It's a remote location so we had dinner at their restaurant. The food was awful. There were 2 options fish and duck. The fish has become tough and was tasteless and the duck was tasteless. My husband and I had salads and bread.
Definitely wouldn't recommend it

We stayed at the Pure Monchique Hotel in a weekend program and booked the stay via email - a couple + 1 couple with a child - in two bedrooms but as a group. The exchange of emails and the service was always excellent, with nothing to point to.
During day 31 we were informed, after questioning, that there would be 2 different annual parties (one at the Pure hotel and another at the restaurant of the complex for the rest of the guests), with different animation and that in ours, in Pure, we would be few - which for a weekend party was not a great idea...
On the night of the New Year's Eve, only when we arrived at the place where dinner and animation would be, we realized that we were not meant to sit together as a group but separate by room. Despite being a failure in the organization, they quickly solved the problem. However, as we already predicted, the number of people and the arrangement of the room (divided by a wall and with the animation zone in a third place) made the year pass left much to be desired. And neither did the menu save the situation: few options, with reduced amounts, without any kind of care in the presentation (in some cases without cutlery to serve), only 1 option of drink without alcohol (orange juice), few options of drinks for dinner and after, strange desserts (the sweet rice was completely liquid) and even the soup of the dinner, the green broth, was served in a pan to keep the soup warm but without the outside of the pan. And the cherry on top of the cake: none of us were able to risk eating a single shrimp because they had all the air of not being fresh - and almost no one took the risk because they were left!
After the meal we order coffee and... another problem! The machine broke down and only after a long time was they able to serve us the coffee... weak, but it was always something. In terms of service, despite some effort on the part of those who were serving, it was notorious that the experience in the area was very little and they were not prepared for what they were doing.
The animation, although they played well and the music was interesting for before and during dinner, did not have any animation! They didn't pull people, they didn't cheer the night and they didn't call anyone to do the descending count for midnight (it didn't pass us by thanks to the other guests). All this led to the "party" lasting little and after an hour everyone was already leaving...
Positive points:
- Service at reception, spa and breakfast
- Good rooms (removing the mattresses)
Negative points:
- poor breakfast - in the breakfast are missing some options that are nowadays part of the offer of any hotel unit - such as bacon, alternatives to milk (I heard someone ask and the answer was that they did not have), other juice that is not orange, more options of pastry...
- stained carpets and carpets with nodes - from the hotel entrance to the room, the carpets had stains and nodes
- spa urgently in need of maintenance - the pool and the entire sauna and Turkish bath area is clearly in need of maintenance! Spots, humidity, poorly crafted paintings and to slip, bathrooms reminiscent of municipal swimming pools of the 90s!
- massage - from the massage itself we have nothing to point out - it was very good! However, when I called to schedule a massage for two, I was told that it was not possible to be whole body but only back, and I marked on the same. When we arrived in the waiting room (come from the pool and so wet), we were told that we would not be two, would be each in their room, and that one of us would have to wait (at the cold because the place was cold) because the other massage was late. Besides not being two, one of us had to wait 20 minutes, unacceptable! Before we went to the massage, we used the bathroom from the waiting room and there was neither hand paper nor toilet - again unacceptable!
In summary: we chose this hotel because we had been there a few years ago (in the hotel and the spa) and the difference is huge! If it was no longer worth it because of the spa, common spaces or breakfast, the New Year's Eve is really not to repeat and I do not recommend it to anyone!

The stay was a disaster. We asked the complaints book at the time of check-out to report all the problems and the lady in charge of the service asked us not to make a formal complaint because they knew that things had not gone well and that in the face of this they could offer us a refund of the part of the value of the annual dinner. It has been 4 days and we have received no contact or refund. The feeling is that we were deceived and if we were disappointed before, now we feel disappointed and deceived.

Nothing to point out very good, from the accommodation to breakfast, the location, the surrounding area quiet, the sympathy of the employees, the spa, only 2 reviews
Maybe you lack some space for parking and if you recover the area of the rivers with the water "flowing" then it would be perfect to repeat as soon as you can.
