Vicky massage water was cold for almost 30 minutes of massage. I scored for 4 people and in all the experiences of us 4 the water was always cold and neither felt the smell of lavender, having these massages I reserved. The massagers (2) arrived with 10 minutes delay, both for me and my friend and neither apology asked. The corridors are frozen. I feel very sorry to see a site that I have been a customer of for quite some time to lose quality this way.

Staff were most unhelpful, and quite miserable. It made me feel as though they did not want guests at the hotel!

Check in was very slow, and the bar staff were often non existent. One female waitress was very friendly but she definitely was the exception.

Superior room was a decent size. The heating did not work, and the room was recently redecorated, but damp.

The bar area is small, but has been renovated to keep the original wine cellar charm.

The hotel restaurant was cold and the menu bland. But there are some very nice family run restaurants close by, with good food and very friendly service.

The surrounding area is beautiful.

Dear KayakingNomad, Thank you very much for you feedback and for your preference. Our aim is to satisfy the needs of our guest and therefore it is with sadness we realized that we have not completely succeeded in providing you with a more pleasant stay. Some issues where we have fallen short of your expectations were well noted. We stayed one night as part of a cycle tour. When we arrived the reception staff couldn't find the booking for ages. They didn't seem to care about this, or apologise when it was eventually found.
Our room was a 'charming' grade room looking down onto the square with lots of space and character. A large bathroom and nicely furnished with antiques and a comfortable large bed. However the damp round one of the windows had just been painted over and the windows themselves were rotting in places.
There was a wedding reception taking place in the square, with a live band playing till midnight. The staff didn't mention this to us out of courtesy, or ask if we'd like a quieter room.
The pool area was tatty, with wobbly old decking boards round it, and murky looking water. There was no attention to covid 19 measures round the pool e.g. Sanitiser or wiping down of loungers.
Breakfast was just about ok, but expected much better for this standard of hotel. Fruit drink instead of fresh juice and undrinkable coffee.
This is a beautiful building with fabulous surroundings, and needs to up its game

Terrible experience, access to the hotel is horrible, it seems like we are going to an industrial area, when we arrived at the hotel there was no one to welcome us, it looked like a ghost hotel, horrible, dirty, with no conditions. Room run down and in poor condition. There is absolutely no hygiene.
A cleaning lady entered our room without authorization and continued cleaning, or rather cleaning and didn't even bother to apologize for the inconvenience, nothing, continued as if it were nothing and as if we weren't there. Previously, the wall had hair on the bathroom tile, which was already in the same place when we arrived, and remained there after the cleaning lady "cleaned the bathroom". Disgusting, in one area of the room there was dried blood, dirty sheets, closet doors falling apart, room full of cobwebs. Lack of toilet paper, shappo and shower gel in dispensers. At breakfast, the waiters were much more committed to clearing the dishes while we were still eating than to replenishing the breakfast. Rotten watermelon! It was the worst we've ever been through. A disappointment, we do not recommend it nor will we ever return. I will leave photos so people can see for themselves. Obviously, we abandoned the place long before time. Paying the price of gold and being received in this way is regrettable. I feel sorry for anyone who falls into this error like us!

Having been unable to find our original booking in the mountains somewhere that GPS didn’t cover, we were recommended this place by a café in the town of Monchique.
It is a beautifully quiet and calm area, a little confusing as a village, but we got help with directions and we found the Central Hotel which comes under the heading of Villa Termal.
We were very warmly welcomed by Anna on reception who thankfully had a room available for us for one night…..the room was beautiful, it had a side-view down the garden to the pool.
The village has thermal waters as the title suggests. We went to the “spa” which was far from easy to find and certainly the outside needs a huge amount of sprucing up. We paid the nominal fee to get in where there was use of the pool (original spa waters), and Steam Room.
In the evening we had dinner which was housed in a different building. It was a little chaotic and the Maitre D didn’t seem to know what he was at and the younger waiters appeared not be allowed to serve at table but only clear away, in view of the fact that there was a large group to dine this seemed counterproductive. The system was the same at breakfast.
After dinner we had the remainder of our bottle of wine which we took back to the main hotel building which was beautifully furnished, but no wine glasses to be had. However, the lady on reception got us two glasses and we sat in the beautiful lounge quietly in order to finish our wine.
If there was one suggestion I would make to this hotel is to have a nice piece of old furniture with some red/white wine glasses so that residents can finish their drink off in lovely surrounding and not have to take them to their bedrooms….then it would be perfect.
If in the area again I would definitely stay again.

This place must rate as one of the worst places I have stayed at this price. The buffet food was disgraceful - cold and congealed and it sat in the trays for two hours unrefreshed. A health and safety hazard!
The room had cockroaches scuttling about on the walls, dirty and dingy. Light inadequate and bathroom with several problems - loo didn’t function well, light missing, shower head difficult to control.
The pool looked uncared for and we didn’t risk it. There were no places to sit in the sunshine. The staff were surly and appeared to hate the place as much as we did.

We decided to stay for the weekend in Monchique and Villa Termal Monchique – Hotel Central was a pleasant experience. The place has been renovated and looks stunning. Check-in was really fast and friendly and the staff were overall very helpful. The room and bathroom were big and clean (we had the Prestige room) but with some damp spots (not smelly!) which I believe is normal for the construction age and lack of sun in the room. Monchique can be very humid.
Breakfast was just about ok but they could do a bit better with some more juice options and bread variety.

Amazing place, great hotel with beautiful rooms, spacious and with great design, bathroom is amazing and huge. Hotel is like in another world including surrounding , like back in time , but with all 21 century amnesties, well kept and well maintained area, few small shops with local crafts, bar and restaurant, breakfast great choose and great quality of food. So peaceful area, spa is great and must when visiting this hotel, massage with water is just mind blowing . All staff lovely and friendly, only minus that we need to leave after two nights.

Hotel if you can call it that because they are buildings and very bad care that nothing is fulfilled advertising with reality, very careless and with a lot of dirt, they wanted to give us a room and when we entered there was an unbearable plague, the rooms with barely light, and in the bathroom without plug. Our friends were given a suite according to them but in a building without elevator and on the third floor.
A total disaster. I'M NOT ADVISING AT ALL.

Quiet place, surrounded by nature, ideal for relaxing. Friendly and helpful reception, bar and restaurant team. I stayed at the Garden, these are the new rooms at this resort, they are spacious, well decorated, comfortable. I loved the thermal baths, Vichy shower and massages. Therapist Vera is friendly, a good professional.
