when we first arrived we were in room 54 - and we had to climb up stairs with luggage . balcony was very tiny and literally across from building tall building , so at 7am every day we heard loud noise. the hot water was like a trickle and took so long to come out. i reported leaking hose was fixed same day. after a day my 63 year old mother and i went to reception to say as women we found it hard to use trickling shower and go up down steps and we were moved immediately and shown another room which was perfect - on ground floor across from spa and our own pool practically. everyone was so helpful at this hotel they even moved our luggage. the breakfast is so much more than just continental , even sparkling wine and rum brandy ! and good thing it ran from 8am until 11 and even if you went 1030 there were no empty dishes the staff kept replenishing. the bar is nice too. not too far to walk from old town but be careful on cobbly pavements. this hotel was so clean and so friendly and even our last day we left early the packed us a whole lunch for breakfast ! we would most definitely stay here again - but if you have bad knees and dont want to be near construction please mention they try to be accommodating. thank you to all for a great stay !

We spent a week at Costa D'oiro Ambiance Village and we had a lovely time. It is separated into multiple buildings with rooms within. Each building has its own pool and sun loungers. We stayed in building 18 and we were lucky it is very quiet with just a few other couples. The room was comfy and clean, it was my birthday whilst staying here and they must have seen a birthday card in the room because we were left a lovely bottle of wine on the day which was a really lovely surprise :)
Breakfast was amazing, so much on offer from cereals to cooked breakfast and cakes, you can even start your day off with champagne!
The hotel is very close to beaches, many restaurants, and just an easy 15 minute walk into the town where there are countless restaurants and bars.
I would stay here again :)

We loved our stay at Costa D'Oiro during our honeymoon trip! The staff and waiters were so kind and welcoming, the entire place was very clean, breakfast was delicious with a huge variety (even mimosas!) and we loved lounging by the pool or on our private terrace. The sangria was some of the best we had!

We especially loved the location - this hotel is right between the "town" area of Lagos with lots of restaurants/bars (about a 15 minute walk, a mile away) and the beaches toward the Southern point of Lagos. If you're looking to stay closer to the town, this place might not work for you, but it was exactly what we were looking for. It's also around the corner from a surf hostel, where we went for a day-long surf trip that was a blast! Overall, recommend this hotel!

I wanted to like this place more than I ended up liking it. It consists of individual houses that have been acquired and then turned into multiple room rentals. There is a main building that houses the front desk and a restaurant with indoor tables as well as outdoor poolside tables.
The buildings and interior halls and rooms are attractive, with heavy terra-cotta floor tiles.
I stayed with a party of six, inhabiting 3 rooms for 2 nights.

Now for the issues I have:
1. The room safes do not operate like 99% of the hotels safes you may have used. If you follow the instructions printed right on the safe itself, it simply will not work. I spent about 15 minutes figuring out the correct sequence of steps to get it to work. Others in our party had the exact same experience and we are all seasoned travelers. Very frustrating when you're trying to get settled in.
2. I am not exaggerating when I say that it took at least 5 minutes for hot water to begin flowing in the shower. The first time we were all set to take showers and discovered we'd not be stepping in any time soon. Once we got the hang of it, we simply started the water way in advance of when we wanted to shower, but come on, there's got to be a better system.
3. There are three pools and in testing two of them I found them to be very much on the cool side. Cold enough that I wasn't tempted to go in, though I love to swim. How difficult can it be to solar heat at least one of the pools, especially when most summer days are sunny.
4. Breakfast starts at 8 AM, simply too late. If you are an early riser, or if you're a tourist wanting to get going on your day's activities, or if you have an early train to catch, etc., you'll be hard pressed to finish your breakfast in time. My rule of thumb is no later than 7 AM, with 7:30 being late but perhaps acceptable.
5. Our room faced a construction site right next door, where a large hotel is being built. Our view out was of a very large dirt field and framework building, with a bunch of construction workers and equipment to gaze upon. Sorry, but as views go this one is plain disappointing.

With just a little attention to these issues, it would certainly be a more enjoyable place to stay, and of course eventually the construction will be completed. But for now, it's a bit of a disappointment.

Response from Rui Fernandes, Owner at Costa D'oiro Ambiance Village
Responded 6 Sept 2023
Dear Travel211, thank you for your comment. We are changing all safes to a more friendly use model. Has to the hot water is not normal that takes so long. Probably a hot water pump was off for some reason. We apolegize for the inconveniance. Pools are fresh water in summer and one is heated during winter. We are a leisure hotel so the breakfast is served from 8-11:00 to allow most of the Guests to take breakfast late. We do provide breakfast packs/take away, for Guests that need to leave before 8:00. The whole area is at the moment going throw a "facelift", so unfortunately this out of our control. We try our best to alocate Guests where there´s less impact. During peak times and the hotel full is more dificult to do that. Still hope to see back again under other area conditions. Best Regards

I was humiliated by the manager of the restaurant at this hotel. I needed a spoon to eat my food in my room, and I was asked by the concierge to go to the restaurant and ask for it there. I went there and waited for the person as the bar to get attention. After the person behind the bar had done berating a waiter, he asked me to wait while he did some typing in his computer. After good 5 min of wait he asked me what I needed. I asked for a spoon and he refused. I did not understand why; I told him I was a patron and provided my room number and he started yelling at me that he won't give me a spoon as everything is in dishwasher. This was when there was a table next to him with a box full of spoons, forks and knives. After seeing my confused face, he then told me he has not gotten any information whether he should give me a spoon and I need to speak to front desk, to which I told him I did speak to them and they directed me to come to restaurant for it. To that he again yelled saying he is the manager of the restaurant and it is his decision whether to give me a spoon or not and he doesn't want to. This all happened in the restaurant and all the other patrons had stopped eating to look at this guy yelling at me. I did not respond to his behavior in the same manner. I quietly walked out since there was no point speaking to such a person. Later, I went to front desk and then that person went to the restaurant and got me the silverware. I have no idea why I was yelled at for asking a spoon.

Everything the hotel itself can control was perfect-- nice sized clean rooms, amazing breakfast, and excellent location only a short walk to Playa Dona Ana.

We had a very strange experience with what the hotel can't control, which is other guests.

We were put in one of the smaller buildings, that has less units and a smaller pool. From what we gathered, the only other guests in that building had been there longer and took our arrival as intrusion on their own private property.

It was very uncomfortable anytime we tried to use the pool, as soon as they heard us out there they came rushing out, as if to stand their ground. I've never experienced this before, but again its not something I would hold against the hotel and property.

Had we been staying longer we probably would've asked to be moved to a different building, but we were only there for 2 nights so we just dealt with it.

Tips for the best experience:
Playa Dona Ana is a very short walk from the property, but we actually liked Playa Do Camilo better. Its smaller, quieter and has better views from above and on the beach itself

Things close rather early on Sunday night but we had awesome pizza and wine in the main buildings restaurant (also where breakfast is served)

Don't miss out on the free breakfast, it's probably the best free breakfast i've ever had, with a ton of options and treats. If you go early enough you can also sit and eat poolside, but it fills up pretty quickly.

Pros: Wonderful breakfast, quiet, close to the best beaches

Cons: Had small ants in my room and inside my sheets. The night staff was helpful in changing my sheets when I brought it to their attention but upon checkout, there was no effort to remedy the situation. For a luxury hotel I expected more than just an acknowledgement.
Suggest putting some frosted window film on the windows of the fitness center because it’s awkward for those at the pool and those inside the fitness center when you are staring at each other.

Great hotel, more like a villa. Excellent room with patio, everything is in excellent condition, great quality of room service, very good breakfast. One problem: they provide a rather small bottle of water only on the first day when you check in, then you have to buy water elsewhere. Why not provide water every day? Is it such a big expense? Retail price for tourists of 0.5l bottle of water is 1 euro, I bet they can buy water for for a third of that price - at most. All other hotels we were staying at in Portugal were providing water every day. Still giving 5 stars, would have given 4,5 stars because of that, had there been such an option.

This hotel is spread out in various dedicated buildings located on a quiet side street. The buildings are very clean. The breakfast is very good--scrambled eggs, meat, pastries, yogurt, fruit, nuts, and more. The hotel is located an easy walking distance both to the beach and to the boardwalk that goes to the lighthouse and beyond. We also walked to downtown Lagos, which took about 15 minutes. There are also several restaurants less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The neighborhood is very safe. The hotel has a parking lot, and there is also parking available on the street.

In a quiet residential area, it is 1.5 km from the historic center and is structured as an elegant holiday village.
The low houses scattered all around the outdoor swimming pool house the rooms, the restaurant and the bar; the gym and sauna are located not far away.
The pool view room is very quiet, the quality of sleep and comfort are optimal: perfect mattress, soft cotton sateen sheets, pillows ideal for consistency and thickness; excellent cleanliness also in the bathroom.
The gourmet breakfast is another great pride of the hotel, an added value and wonder for quality, quantity and care for regional products.
Friendliness and professionalism at the reception. Free parking next to the property.
