We stayed at Monte Santo the first week in March and it is absolutely fabulous! We have stayed in the Carvoeiro/Ferragudo area many times, but this was our first time at Monte Santo, we will most definitely be visiting again. We always hire a car in the Algarve because there are so many beautiful places to visit and it is much easier by car. The resort is in a quiet location uphill, outside the town. Taxis are very cheap if you don't want a car but want to stay somewhere that is perfect! This is a very well maintained resort with beautiful apartments/suites. We had a ground floor one bedroom suite with a lovely terrace which got the sun all day. The apartments are set in lovely gardens, it is very quiet and peaceful. There are paths all round the gardens that lead to the huge main swimming pool, the indoor pool/spa, restaurant, bar and reception. Our suite was immaculate and had a washing machine, dishwasher, music system with docking station, a huge comfy bed, a folder full of information about the apartment/complex, bath robes and slippers. I would like to say the staff at this resort are excellent, professional & friendly. There were guys driving round the complex in buggies, they always smiled and waved if we were on our patio. The housekeeping staff done an excellent job every day. The reception staff were very efficient and dealt with our queries quickly. The restaurant staff were very helpful & friendly. There are loads of supermarkets/ restaurants within a very short drive, the on site restaurant is really good too. I would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff at Monte Santo for their hard work and dedication to making sure people have a fantastic holiday.

We absolutely love this place, everything about it is so relaxing and just right. The villas and apartments are immaculate, the pools spacious and clean, the restaurant has lovely food and the bar has a good choice of drinks. The location is spot on, about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the town centre or a 3 minute drive, a taxi is around 4 Euros. The development is well designed and spaced out, meaning a quiet and relaxing break. The staff are helpful and polite. The outdoor pool is cool out of summer but I’ve swam in it in March and April and it’s fine, the indoor pool is also available and is heated. Plenty of free parking throughout the development and 24/7 secure access. I honestly cannot fault this place at all and will be returning for a 5th visit soon.

Ok so let me start with a major negative that really bothers me, but might not worry others. When I go on holiday I expect to be able to relax, never more so than when eating. Well you won’t be having a leisurely meal here, the waiters table etiquette is awful. They are permanently hovering within arms length on the table, if you are one of only a few groups of diners, you may attach several of these vultures. Leave anything too long, put down your cutlery, don’t finish your bread quick enough, they will take it. On 3 occasions I had to put my hand on a plate to stop it being cleared, if they did ask, they would ask as they grabbed it.
I expect plates cleared after a course for the whole table not whisked away as soon as you pause. Also if I ask for water and ask a waiter to leave the bottle pouring to me, then I don’t want them forcefully pouring water for the whole table. Again on one occasion I had to take the bottle from the waiter and stick it under my arm so he didn’t come back again. At this point he had made 3 attempts that I foiled to pour water for people who didn’t want it….fine if it’s free but at 4.50 a bottle I’m not wasting it. Please someone teach the staff to be attentive not invasive, remain out of sight not gurning and staring at the diners.
Otherwise food, pool, and the fabulous 2 storey houses are brilliant. Independent air con throughout and the site was always quiet. Cleaners were superb, amenities fine…..I had seen complaints about WiFi but we had no issues. Perfect for our family myself, wife, 15yr old daughter and her friend. 12 min walk to town, 16 mins back. Town is family friendly but all the beaches are very small.
Another note, they advertise tennis, and you can play, but 2 of the 4 balls were punctured and the racquets were a bit tatty. Surely a resort like this could invest a few Euros in some new racquets and a few tubes of balls.
So I would stay again but I’ll be taking a long pointy stick to keep the waiting vultures at bay.

We've just returned from our half term break in Carvoeiro where we stayed at that the Monte Santo Hotel. We stayed in a 2 bed luxury suite which was extremely spacious, clean, and well equipped. The apartment also had 3 TVs with all UK, German, and Irish stations. Our room was serviced by housekeeping daily who did a good job.
The facilities of the hotel are very good with a large outdoor pool, heated indoor pool, tennis courts, small playground, and indoor bar and restaurant which includes a TV showing sports and pool table. For a 5 star I think the hotel is missing an opportunity in creating a better atmosphere, there's no entertainment or music etc in the evenings, it's all very quiet. There are also minor inefficiencies that could easily be rectified. For example, there were often no pool towels or member of staff in the pool house until late morning, everytine we needed to talk to a member of staff we would have to walk to reception and then she would call another member of staff to help us, this was the same when we booked the tennis court. Whilst there are staff inefficiencies and short staffed in certain parts, those that are working were very friendly. The location of the hotel is good but probably not suitable for elderly people unless you rely on taxis or rent a car. It's a 25 minute walk to Carvoeiro town, mainly downhill but the return journey is tough so will need a taxi which is only 6 euros.
My main complaint for this hotel are the additional charges, its a 5 star hotel which is expensive to stay, so I believe some basic things should be included. There was a Nespresso machine in our room with 3 pods which were replaced daily, we didn't realise that these were charged at 1.50 per pod, therefore we incurred an additional charge of 4.50 per day for our stay. There were also a large number of other items left in our fridge and on the kitchen unit which were all chargeable so we removed all items and put them in the cupboard. I feel basic items such as water, coffee, tea should be provided for free. Separately, in the hotel website pool pictures there are beautiful double beds which look lovely, when we arrived and viewed the pool all of these beds had no cushions on and looked ugly as it was just bare slats, I thought this was odd but a few days later I saw all the cushions around the corner near the pool house, I was then informed that you had to hire the cushions for 12 euros per day. Another guest told me he had been there for 2 weeks and not one person had rented the cushions, and then we also stayed for 2 weeks and didn't see anyone rent cushions. Therefore, these beds are just left empty. I'm not sure why a 5 star hotel would try and charge 12 euro for pool cushions, surely the negative feedback and complaints outweigh any small profit they might make on these?
Overall a good hotel but some small improvements needed.

We had been to Monte Santo several times over the past few years. This time the experience was completely different.

We were a located a room at the far end of the resort and waited 3.5 hours on arrival to get the room key. The reception staff are truly awful, unhelpful and rude. The exception was the gentleman who drove the buggy who could not have been more helpful. When I complained to the manager (Patricia) i was told that she had neve had a complaint about her staff.

the standard of maintenance was dreadful. There were three wooden bridges, two at the pool and one on the path up thought the resort. The wooden bridges were in a terrible condition with loose boards and some serious trip hazards. The two bridges over the pool had several pieces of the handrails missing, marked helpfully with cones but never repaired. The path through the resort was completely overgrown and only in our last few days were the overhanging bushes cut back. The footpaths and pavements are full of weeds.

We were told that to charge our pool towels it would cost €1.00 or "wash them ourselves" as one of the reception staff helpful added. Hardly the stuff of a 5-star resort.

There was no kids club as "they were short of staff"

We will certainly never the go back this overpriced, underperforming resort again. There are better options in Carvoeiro, particularly if you have children, who might even value yu as a guest.

We visited on 19th August for a much needed family break. We booked a 2 bedroom villa via booking.com. We have visited before but sadly this resort has been badly neglected over the last few years. When you arrive they insist on payment before you have seen your accomodation. Now I know why. The villa was nicely furnished but had lots of maintenance issues and wasnt very clean.Doors on cuboards wouldnt shut. We had dirty glasses and crockery and basics like skirting boards hadnt been cleaned. Lots of woodwork is damaged. The outside table was dirty. Its been neglected sadly I can only attach 10 photos. See below. The staff are disinterested in complaints and some were.quite rude. We were told that they were only cleaning rooms every 3 days due to covid but once I had sent photos of some of the problems they suddenly came every day. They are very short staffed. It took me complaining to booking.com and day 5 of my Holiday before I spoke to the Manager who was quite condescending. She could do with reading 5 star service by Michael Heppell. We had no wifi for 5 days. On holiday with teenagers this was almost the end of the world. They offered to move us on day 5 of a 7 day holiday which was just to late. They did thankfully fix the wifi again on day 5.
Sadly I discovered if u book with booking.com and pay the resort you get caught between the two and both pass the buck.

This is not a 5 star hotel. The rooms are outdated, but roomy. The service is horrible… where should we start?! We walk in and we were not greeted, they refused to greet us until we showed them our negative covid tests. 😳. They treated like trash on the street. The restaurant…. dirty tables, our server spilled our sparkling wine, because she did not know how to pour sparkling wine, and never came back to clean up the spill. We asked another server for more napkins and she stared at us for about 15 seconds, so we repeated our request, and she ran away. I wish I could make this up. Our main server explained that she did not know English. “5 stars hotel” The food was meh. Nothing to call home about. Room service does not exist. They never picked up the phone. We counted, it rang 8 times, before we gave up. I called the front desk, they told me to call room service, I told them that “they are not answering”. “They are very busy right now” I had to walk down to get what we needed. NOT A SOUL IN THE RESTAURANT. We called the front desk, a second time, to call the room service for ice and wine bucket, we got a bag of ice.. 🙄 I asked about the wine bucket… “we don’t give wine buckets to rooms. 🤣. This resort is good at being bad. We are fair people, but I cannot in good conscious let you, the reader of this review, book this resort, without the hearing the truth about our experience. Looking at the reviews on Expedia and trip Advisor, I just do not understand why others are rating this hotel so high. It mystifies us!

The resort was not 5 star. For a 5 star I was expecting better. One thing that was really disappointing was the pool towel policy. (I have not expericened such a policy ANY where else in the world) You have to pay a 25.00 Euro deposit per towel and if you want to change for fresh towel there is a charge of 1.00 Euro every time you change. I was told about the deposit when checking but not the one Euor charge. And another thing you have to do this when checking in where the pool towels are kept and also when you want fresh towels you have to go back to check in as there is no attendant around the pool area. The wifi was not good. The house keepers were good but they did not have enough fresh towels to replace, had to call everyday for more towels to be left. Did not eat at the restaurant as another guest said it was no good.

We stopped for 10 days at the Monte Santo resort.
On arrival we were greeted and transported to our 2 storey townhouse.
The townhouse was very clean, modern with good facilities overlooking a small pool surrounded by about 12 houses.
the only downside to the townhouse was it had an upstairs balcony which had no furniture making it unusable.

The staff at the resort were friendly enough and the food in the restaurant was good but breakfast became a bit repetitive. drinks average prices were €2.50 - Latte €2.50 bottle of water €5 beer.

The only downside at the resort was the pool area.
The pool floor was filthy, the pool guy put a pool vacuum in every day for about 30 mins but the bottom of the pool was grim, covered in rubbish and filth. i messaged reception and the pool guy came out with a net and wafted it about and disappeared again.
the patio area surrounding the pool was never swept or mopped properly throughout our 10 days. it was covered in sun cream and dirt. the pool guy came out 4 times and mopped up where the seagulls drank out of the pool but at no point did he give anywhere a thorough clean.
The sunbeds were all dirty on the fabric and legs and alot of the umbrella's were broken.
The steam room was also faulty all week and the drains kept blocking causing a terrible smell.

Overall we had a good stay, it was a nice walk into the town and the closest supermarket is about a 15 min walk away.

i hope they improve the cleanliness around the pool and we would defiantly return.

We stayed here for two nights In September in a two bedroom townhouse. The accommodation was lovely. It had everything we need. A lovely open plan kitchen and lounge on the ground floor with doors out onto the terrace and the shared pool with the other houses in our section.
Upstairs was 2 bedrooms and lovely bathrooms.
The reason for 4 stars was all the hotel grounds needed a bit of maintenance ie painting the walls, pulling weeds out of paving and walkways and the grass looked like it hadn't been cut for weeks. For a five star property I would expect this all to be regular maintained and well looked after.
One other thing was there was not a pool bar operating when we visited. This is not ideal when you had to walk through the restraunt to get a drink with wet clothes. Also we could not get pool towels until 11am which is very odd as people normally go to the pool straight from breakfast about 9-10am.
All in all we enjoyed our stay but feel it could be so much better with little improvements.

There is a park, a good pool indoor and out (without slides though) then some limited evening entertainment. There is also some day time activities available. We’ve taken an 8 and 3 year old and very happy.
