Divided over three buildings (orginally from the 17th century) we offer several room for your stay. The "Noorderhuis" has two rooms called "Boven Zaan" and "Noorderhuis" with view over the river Zaan. In addition "het Noorderhuis" is suitable for 4 persons. Next door we have "koopmanshuis de Mol", which has two rooms. One room has a great view at the Zaan. Our suite is located in the last building "het Glop", which has a majestic view at the zaan and the windmills of the Zaanse Schans. All our rooms have their own bathroom, coffee/tea facility, minibar and free Wifi. In the morning, we serve the breakfast at "Noorderhuis". The Zaanse Schans itself is ofcourse a beautiful place for a pleasant day out. Furthermore, Amsterdam and Alkmaar are also nearby. Combine your stay with a wonderful diner at "de Hoop op de Swarte Walvis", which is located next to our bed and breakfast.

Just returned from a short (4 night) twixmas stay at Heerlijck Slaapen, and what a wonderful stay we had!
We have visited Amsterdam many times (you can tell from our previous reviews!) and have visited Zannse Schans several times but have never stayed on site before, and never visited ZS in the wintertime, so we thought this time - for my husbands birthday trip - we would stay here. We are so glad we did, we couldnt have had a better place to stay, and Sharon and her husband, as has been said soo many times (and rightly so) are such nice people, so hospitable, and cant do enough to assist and ensure your stay is as good as is humanly possible, really genuine, friendly people.
After booking, (we booked via booking . com and got a brilliant rate) our flight got altered and it now looked touch an go that we would make it for the 6pm check in time, so worried, we emailed them, in a matter of hours we got a friendly reply telling us not to worry they would be there to meet us when we arrived, so minds settled.
We arranged a shuttle transfer via Hoppa and with a discount code our return transfer cost £66, which we thought very good and saved trains and walking - especially as I am a wheelchair user and train assistance needs booking in advance. The only disadvantage to this was that the driver had not been to this residence before and was going to drop us off at the Zaanse Schans Museum, which was quite a walk away, especially in the dark and cold; we suggested that we would ring the proprietors to get directions and then the driver remembered another driver had dropped off there earlier that day so got info off him. No we are home and have looked back at reviiews this seems to have been a problem previously, so if you are going and taking a taxi or ordering a transfer maybe have sharons number to hand or email and ask her to email you dutch directions/instructions that you can show your driver - or tell them it is next to the whale restaurant as that may help.
When we arrived, we knew we were in the correct place as the b+b sign was left out for us, we rang the bell - it took a little while to get a reply, as it actually rings in their house which is across the road, but Sharons husband came and helped us with luggage and showed us around our room and the breakfast room, he also told us if we are out and need anything just give them a ring, and if we wanted to order a takeaway again just let them know and they would organise it for us.
The room ( D'Mol ) is comfortable, with attention to detail, and beautifully decorated with period style charm but with mod cons ie krupps coffee machine and modern bathroom with hot towel rail. The bed is very comfortable and linen not just crisp and clean but excellent quality that are a pleasure to snuggle into on a cold evening. The view across the river to Zaandijk is lovely, especially with the christmas lights from the houses twinkling on the river.
Breakfast is in a beautiful room and consists of too much variety of breads, buns, cheeses, cooked meats, yoghurts, cereal bars and stuff plus tea, coffee and juices and all are fresh and tasty. Again nothing is too much trouble.
One morning, we decided as we are on holiday (and had had a late night) we would have a lie and and skio breakfast, when we opened the room door to leave mid morning, there we found a package on our doorstep with a lovely note saying as we had missed breakfast sharon had made us a packed lunch instead - it was filled with ham rolls, cheese rolls, breakfast bars, chocolate bars, yogurt and juice drinks - we were overwhelmed at their kindness and felt terribly guilty for skipping breakfast!
During our stay we took the bus into Amsterdam, bus 391 goes every 15 mins during main daytime hours and then every half hour till around midnight. It costs 5e pp each away and takes 40 minutes and you get it from the main road just in front of the museum; the train is a 900m walk over the bridge into Zaandijk and to Zandijk Koog station, the train only takes about 15-20 mins, but is less convenient if, like me, you have mobility issues or need to use a wheelchair.
The area around is great for walking, exploring cycling and indeed, pushing a wheelchair around, and the town of Zaandijk is so quaint with original style houses.
When we visit Amsterdam next, towards September time, we do hope there will be room at Heerlijck Slappen for us again as we would definitely stay here again.
Highly recommended!

Personally i would recommend a day trip rather than staying the night at this place. Its a bit of a task getting there. We took a train and then had to take an Uber to reach the hotel. It took more than 45 minutes to get an Uber cause they kept cancelling. When we got one finally he went to the wrong side of the station across the highway and it took a lot of convincing for him to come this side. The hotel itself is a bit underwhelming. The spectacular view outside is better than the inside. Its quite a task getting to the bedroom on the first floor. You need to climb a narrow staircase and with a biggish suitcase its rather difficult. Also, you need to be careful of not bumping your head . I stubbed my toe and hurt it very badly on the mini staircase, going to the bathroom at night. The breakfast is basic but tasty. However, i personally felt that the price isn't proportionate to the accommodation .

We last stayed here in Dec '16 and decided to have another visit, as although the area of Zaanse Schans is quite touristic, it is beautiful and the houses that make up the B & B of Heerlijck Slappen are stunning.
On arrival Sharon greeted us like welcoming a family member home and showed us to our rooms - this time we stayed in the ground floor apartment of Noordhaus. This apartment is stunning - although I couldnt imagine it would be possible to have a room here that is anything but stunning. I could never tire of the view over the zaan, nor of the windmills.
The apartment consists of: on entry, a room with bunk beds and off this room is also the toilet and shower rooms - both separate, which is useful - toilet has a sink basin in too. Lovely amenities are left in the bedroom. The next room is the kitchen, with all you would expect, plus dining table; then the final room, overlooking the river is the main bedroom with another table and chairs at the window, and a huge double bed with such pretty linens - very good quality that made getting into bed when cold a pleasure. The tv is ultra modern, and the room is also served with wifi. BBC world news and euro news are in English. In the room(s) everything is there that should be and the attention to detail cannot be faulted.
Breakfast is served in the front of the Noordhaus, and consists of an afternoon tea stand full of various breads, a buffet area consisting of various cold meats, cheeses, jams, cereals, biscuits and fruit plus freshly cooked eggs are also available. This is serve with a variety of teas or coffee.
Nothing is too much trouble for Sharon or her assistant, and they are genuinely happy to help with anything. We were chatting about our plans one morning and mentioned that we were going to go for a trip on the zaan boat - so they gave us a leaflet for a few euros off the price, and on another occasion Sharon made a restaurant reservation for us.
Getting to and from Amsterdam Centre is easy either on bus 391 from the stop at the front of the museum on site, or from the train station (10 mins walk over the river). The bus takes longer, but when you factor in the additional time walking to the station, there isnt much in it. The bus and train do not take cash any longer, so payment by chip and pin is needed - to the driver for a paper ticket that lasts 1.5 hours and can be transfered for journeying on by metro, or other buses (cost 6.50e) or at the machine at the station . We also took the train direct to/from the Arena stop to go and watch an Ajax game, although next time we may need to watch Alkmaar after finding out they train near ZS.
Another lovely stay, despite the rainy weather, and we will definitely return in another couple of years; Cant recommend this place highly enough!

What can I say, I absolutely adored this place! We had a lovely historic room with a big fireplace and chandelier. We arrived late in the evening and didn't even realize until the morning how much we were right in the center of historic Zaanse Schans (well I didn't since my friend made the booking and surprised me).
It was such an amazing feeling to stay in this vintage ~400 y.o. building. And the host family couldn't be any more welcoming: they're lovely, warm and charming people.
I really enjoyed the lovely breakfast in the morning which was served in a gorgeous dining room. We were actually close to cancelling our further travel plans just to stay a bit longer. In the end we didn't but we'll be definitely back again! Thank you for everything!

The Heerlijck Slaapen B&B is located right on the Zaan River with a Fantastic views of the Zaanse Schans Windmills. The property is spread out across 2-3 vintage dutch houses. We chose the Loft room based on its reviews & views. The room was unique & nothing like we have every experienced. The room layout is a straight line - You enter into the living room which leads to the bathroom which leads to bedroom (the bathroom is literally in between). The Bedroom has a 180 degree view of the Zaan River & the Windmills. The view was the highlight of our stay -Breathtaking views of the Zaan River & the Windmills. I don't think there's a better view in Zaanse Schans.
While the Loft Room was unique, we had one little issue with it. The room had no ventilation/air-conditioning/cooling system & it became quite hot & claustrophobic during our stay last summer. While there is a table fan provided but that isn't enough. If one opens the windows, there is a risk of mosquitoes entering the room.
Besides that we thoroughly enjoyed the stay at Heerlijck Slaapen, The hosts made us feel comfortable & were kind enough to guide us to nearby restaurants & sights. The breakfast was excellent. The spread is wide & suits every palette.
Zaanse Schans is full of tourists between 9am to 4pm (day trips from Amsterdam), otherwise the entire area is quite peaceful. Would definitely return to Heerlijck Slaapen the next time we travel to Zaanse Schans.

You've seen the pix of Zaanse Schans with the windmills? Well, what I never realized was that some of the green buildings, you can actually stay there overnight!
They actually have 6 large rooms, all with King beds and luxury decor.
You can check in, & then go visit several working windmills on foot (extra cost.) You are staying in the middle of their "Culture Village."
Sharon is a delightful hostess, & breakfast is in a lovely large old room. Only disadvantage: it's deserted at night, when the shops close, but that's kind of cool, too; just to be that close to the river when the wind blows the water into a good chop.
What an experience! Go if you can.

We arrived early in Amsterdam, then traveled by train to a stop close to the Zaanse Schans area. We walked about 10-15 minutes to the bed and breakfast through a nice little neighborhood. Once we arrived at Heerlijck Slaapen, we were warmly greeted by Sharon, the owner, who graciously invited us to have some breakfast with the other guests. That was such a lovely gesture--we were clearly tired from an all night flight from the U.S., and to have such a sweet welcoming of coffee and breakfast was priceless. We were able to stash our luggage in Sharon's office until our room was ready, around noon. It was so easy to walk around Zaanse Schans from this location. Our room was in the back nearest the water. It was quite large: a lower sitting area and bathroom, then up some clever steps to a loft like bedroom with plenty of windows. There were windmills and cute little houses as scenery, so it was quite magical and romantic. The bedroom had very nice linens and a white quilt; a branch of flowers lay across the foot of the bed as our welcome. The bathroom was very modern, with good hot water and nice towels and even a towel warming rack. The downstairs living space was that of an old "merchants house" with pretty tile all around the fireplace. The TV was a bit small (and kind of low on a small wooden piece), but there were many channels to choose from. The room also had a wooden table plus two clear plastic chairs to sit on. Perhaps two softer chairs in the room would help if you wanted to sit and read and/or enjoy a TV show, but of course, you are in Zaanse Schans so much of your time is enjoying everything around you. We felt safe and well-cared for at Heerlijck Slaapen, which Sharon explained roughly translated to "delicious sleeping". We agree that it is "the" place to stay if you wish to escape the noise of Amsterdam.

A very special place to stay. Wonderful location overlooking the beautiful Zaan river and the windmills. Rooms and facilities were outstanding and exceeded our expectations. Sharon is a lovely host and took care of every little detail to make our stay more enjoyable and comfortable. Walking distance from the Koog Zaandig railway station. Bike rental facility and all the sight seeing locations in zaans schaans are within walking distance. Our stay at this property was the highlight of our vacation and we would definitely want to visit again. Breakfast was excellent, especially Sharon's egg salad! Beds are comfortable and a good nights sleep is guaranteed. Thanks to Sharon for making our stay memorable.

Re: Train Station. I can tell you that it is a lovely walk across the drawbridge or moveable bridge that allows boats to pass (only happened once while we walked across). The bridge offers a beautiful view of the river and windmills... Walk pasta windmill on the corner... Google maps indicates that it is an 800 metre walk to Koog aan de Zaan station. It isn't Zaandam station that you want to go to as that is much further away. Make sure you get off and on at Koog aan de Zaan station... And Google maps has it correct. It would be like walking around an oval twice in regards to distance. There is a map board outside the station that may be helpful but I used google maps to find my way and it is walking down two streets and the bridge and you are at Heerlijk Slaapen... Only a problem if you have medical difficulty with walking. If no problems walking it is easy.
Hello Ramat,
From Amsterdam Central Station there goes a direct train to Koog-Zaandijk. From there it is a small walk to the Zaanse Schans. We are situated 900 meters from the railwaystation.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Warm regards,
Sharon
Hi,
we slept in room De Walvis, the bathroom is on the ground floor but to go to the bedroom there is a sharp narrow stair! There you have a nice view over the river Zaan.
I think room De Mol is all on the ground floor.
But is beter that you ask the owners to be sure. They are very friendly.
Kind regards,
Steven
