Detailed Reviews
The hotel is quirky and the hosts are very friendly but we were given a room at the top of the hotel and there was no shower. There was a bath with a shower hose and there was a slanted ceiling so you couldn’t stand up to use it as a shower. A shower is a basic amenity and we should have been told about this when we booked. So it made our experience unpleasant. If we had been given a room with a shower, then we’d have rated our stay higher.

This hotel is at a great location, between the shops and restaurants in the city centre.
The staff is nice. And the matrasses are good.
The pillows though were very thick, I couldn't sleep on it.
We had a 3p room which was next to a terrace. The terrace was used day and night by people who were smoking. So we couldn't open a window without letting the smoke in. Also the sounds of people on the terrace were heard at night.
The shower and toilet were in about 1.5 m2, so very small and it would take a while for the water to run away. And also couldn't be used at the same time.
Coffee and tea facilities were in the room.

Nice hotel in easy walking distance from the station and harbour. Good amenities and helpful staff. Chargeable breakfast was good. Linked to restaurant for evening meal but plenty of other options nearby. Would definitely stay here again

Fairly small room but as you would expect from the Dutch it was clean and comfortable. We were on the first floor at the front which was noisy from the the bars and traffic on the cobbled streets at this major cross road in the middle of Hoorn. Saturday morning at 5am the market was set up right below us. Restaurant was excellent with a twist on an 'all you can eat' style menu - lots of small portions until you gave up. Breakfast was normal continental style.

My wife and I have just returned from Hoorn after a 3 night stay and I must say we are pleased to be back to get a decent nights sleep,I should have been warned as what was to come as we could not open the room door fully as we entered the room as it hit the bed so it was a bit of a squeeze getting in carrying the baggage, the bed itself was awful I have slept in more comfortable camp beds, the room itself was very small with only the basic of facilities. storage space was limited consisting of one cabinet, the bathroom was clean but in need of modernising. The attached restaurant where breakfast was held was quite good with excellent english speaking staff who also seemed to double up as the hotel reception staff with a special thank you to Kevin who made the stay acceptable. To sum up I would not stay here again but would certainly use the restaurant.

I stayed at the Hotel de Keizerskroon for 2 nights in September 2011 whilst on business in the area. The suite, priced at 100 euros per night b&b was where I stayed the first night, then on the 2nd night I moved to a standard double.
Firstly the suite (photos provided): I was expecting a large bedroom with a separate sitting area, desk space to work, en suite, tea and coffee making facilities and possibly even a small fridge. This is not what the suite at the Hotel de Keizerskroon in Hoorn offers. Instead, after side-stepping between the wardrobe which doesn't close (floor slopes) and the end of the bed (2 singles pushed together) to get through the bedroom door I was presented with a small-to-average sized room. There were 2 dining chairs but no table (unless the small table dwarfed by the lamp was it?), no sitting area, no desk (there was a wide shelf that folds up/down to act as a desk by the door, rendering that side of the bed inaccessible), no fridge, no tea/coffee making facilities. The en suite is where the money has been spent however; a large walk-in shower (watched over by a spider in a web!), large jacuzzi style bath, double sink, fluffy towels and robes. The reason I asked for a different room for the second night of my stay was the noise from outside the hotel. Skateboarders until after midnight, trucks loading and unloading at 3am, road noise throughout the night - it was so noisy that I was certain the traffic had been re-routed through my bedroom! Unbearably noisy, I hardly slept at all.
Next, the standard double (no photos): For only 20 euros less per night bed & breakfast the standard double is indeed very small. However, it was a double bed. The en-suite was spacious; shower over bath (no shower curtain, no screen), large sink, loo. This time the spider watches over the loo from the single glazed bathroom window in the slightly rotten wooden frame.
The hotel is a very old hotel. The public areas have been well maintained; the restaurant in particular is very pleasantly presented. The rooms I experienced, including the 'suite' are tired and dated and need much more by way of maintenance and housekeeping.
The staff were all very helpful. Breakfast is a typical Dutch buffet, fresh orange and tea/coffee are served at the table. The bar and restaurant get busy at night. I ate in the restaurant on one evening (see separate review) and would recommend it, food and service of a high standard.
If you choose to stay at this hotel I strongly recommend you to request a room at the back of the hotel where there is a lot less noise and a better chance of getting some hard earned sleep!

Charming, eclectic hotel which really delivers: a good night’s sleep, a good hot shower, and a friendly welcome. Especially for our dogs, who particularly enjoyed their own special breakfast.
Don’t expect the Ritz; do expect a hotel that leaves you with a sense of well-being and a feeling that you have touched a vanishing world.

Stayed here for the first time, great stay and very friendly owners.
We really liked our stay and would really recommend this place. The breakfast is great with very friendly owners. And we loved sitting in front in the hotel having a nice drink.

We booked the room to make a surprise visit to friends who lived nearby. I decided we would spend a little more & go for the suite which included a shower & large round spa bath. The beds were very comfortable & the room was large & included a table & 2 chairs. Breakfast was included in the cost. We had a great weekend & could walk to all the amenities. Local bars & restaurants were very good.
