Enjoy some culture, visit a museum or go shopping? Or do you prefer wandering through nature, cycling between the dunes, going for a walk on the beach? It’s all possible in and around Haarlem. Furthermore, ‘Heavenly Haarlem’ – the ‘northern city with southern flamboyancy’ – has an extremely central location: the bulb fields, the windmills of Zaanse Schans and the city of Amsterdam are all within easy reach. You can also enjoy a meal and meet friends from all over the world in the friendly brown cafe ‘The Shuffle’. Stayokay Haarlem is centrally located near the connecting road to the beach, the woods, the city centre of Haarlem and Amsterdam.

An angel from reservations kindly put me in a dorm room by myself, because there was a large group of excited and loud young teenagers staying in the hostel... That was Great :)! Really appreciated this gesture, because I was on multi-day hiking and biking trip and I need my rest :)

Good value if you want to be nearby the Kennemer national park, dunes and beaches.

I hope more mature nature lovers will discover this, so that the atmosphere changes from scholastic partying to peaceful sharing and storytelling.

4/5 because I missed a lounge room to hang out in which isn't the loud canteen, and the drink and food prices were too expensive.

Clean, easy to arrive, friendly staff, delicious breakfast. Cosy. It's very peaceful here. The room is very clean, you have a share bathroom in your room. The wc is still in the room on a separate space.

My wife, daughter, and I just spent three nights at the StayOkay. It was...OK. We chose the StayOkay because it promised bike rentals and is located very close to a magnificent area for biking in the dunes. We weren't expecting anything fancy...and that's almost what we got. Some positives:
1) very friendly staff. They addressed (or tried to address) most of the problems we encountered. They sell bus tickets and maps. They put us in our own "family room" and plied us with complimentary drinks and lunch sacks when things didn't go as planned.
2) serviceable Dutch breakfast included (breads, cheeses, etc) No fruit or hot food but tasty and filling.
3) Clean.

Some negatives:
1) even though we made the reservations in advance, our bikes were NOT ready. There was something wrong with 2 of the 3 they had selected for us. In fact, our daughter's was not rideable. This was a BIG disapointment and we had to waste a couple hours sorting that out and going downtown to rent from a real shop.
2) Location. The hostel is about 20 minutes out of town in a surburan part of town and easy to reach by bus BUT given that we were there to use the bikes, that 20 minutes seemed like a drag.
3) Value: for three of us it cost about 100 Euros a night. For about the same cost we could have stayed in a hotel and not needed to bring our own soap and towels OR slept in bunk beds.
4) Noise: our room was right near the entrance door for the sleeping hall. So...we got to hear that door open and close a lot...which was more annoying than the sporadic conversations in the hall (a problem in ALL hotels, yes?)

Stayed four days/nights in this hostel (3 adults, 1 toddler). We were pleasantly surprised to see how clean the facility is, what a complete breakfast, what a delightful location, and best of all, what a friendly, hard-working STAFF! All of them spoke English well, always pleasant, always patient, and very competent. We always felt safe and well-cared-
for. We would really like to return next year; the employees really made us Americans feel at home in the Netherlands!

We stayed at the hostel for 2 nights in a 6 bed shared room. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The best part is that this is a very cheap place if you want to stay a short distance from Amsterdam. There is a bus stop right outside the hostel which takes you to Haarlem station in 20 mins and then a 15 min ride to Amsterdam central. After having heard all the horrible stories of Amsterdam hostels we didnt want to pay a high price and stay in a shabby place, therefore we chose stayokay and we dont regret it at all. The only negetive was that there are no restaurants close by so either you walk 15 mins or take the 20 min ride by bus to center.
Overall a good experience and one of the better hostels I have stayed in. Will go back if am on a budget.

This hostel is warm, comfortable and much more luxurious than we expected. We were there for a wedding! Which turned out to be fantastic.
The staff are extremely helpful and welcoming and we even took part in a "pub quiz" . We were last but everyone appreciated our efforts.
This hostel is situated beside bus stops for Haarlem and beyond. There is a national park nearby and the location is very good for cycling. (Bicycles are available for hire).
If we go to that area again we would certainly use the Stayokay hostel.

Stayed the night here on our way to the tulip fields. Check in was easy, front desk staff were extremely helpful and knowledgable. We stayed in a private room that was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was typical European and delicious, plus it was included in our bill. There is also a bar in the hostel that has a good selection of beers
Upon arrival we checked out bikes, also included in our nights rate and headed to the beach. It was an easy enjoyable flat ride. There is a little town on the beach with some restaurants. It was very peaceful to just sit in a lounge chair with a glass of wine and watchtower he waves role in.
Haarlem is a great town to do some shopping and get some good food. The hostile is in a great location to connect to other parts of the Netherlands.
I've been living in Germany for awhile and this was one of my favorite trips, can't wait to go back!

This is a nice spot if you plan on visiting Haarlem and Amsterdam. You literally get out of the airport, walk across the street to bus stop 300 Haarlem. Make sure you buy a ticket from the driver. Take it to the Haarlem train station. Then take bus 2 Haarlem Noord and the stop says Stayokay. It drops you off steps away from the hostel. I strongly recommend getting an iAmsterdam or Holland card. It costs 2 Euros each time on the bus and 8.50 Euros round trip on the train each time. The cards cover transportation and other things. The other thing is to make sure you carry money with you if you think you need it. The nearest ATM is a 10 minute walk. There are two in the area but both were offline. And if you have no money and no card, you have to walk 30 minutes to get to the next ATM (head towards the train station).

As far as the hostel, I stayed in a four bunk room, but there are other options as well. I went during the slow season, so I had the room to myself. It was clean and comfortable. However, make sure the windows are closed and the heat is turned on, otherwise, the room is very cold during winter. There was hot water and good water pressure for showering. There was bedding and a duvet. The pillow and bed were very comfortable (pillows are soft not firm). No towels but you get buy one or bring one. They did give me a lock and a charger to use. There is free internet, if you leave your computer at home, there is a computer to use. Although, it was costly to use, 3 Euros for an hour. There was a nice breakfast in the morning, but no variety. It was basic cereal, wonderful bread, fruit, juices, tea and coffee. One nice thing was that you can help yourself to tea and coffee throughout the day. And the staff was very friendly and helpful. I also liked that it was a fairly quiet hotel. This could be that it was during the off season, but it was nice it was so quiet.

The only reason I didn't rank this place a five was that it is out of the way from bars, restaurants and other activities. However, if you have a family and want to be away from all the hustle and bustle, this is a good place.

Like a hotel!
I chose a 4 person room, midweek.
Room has own toilet and bath. All looks new and functionally solid. Nice bar. Nice people. I just find more and more that suprises me in a positive way.

No outside noise here in room 102. You can recharge phone in the bed. Even art as wallpaper.

Located in the fantastic beautiful area of Bluemendaal. (Upperclass area, classy and with the traditional old fairytale dutch houses). You should rent a bike and see. Lots of green nature and close to Haarlem and shopping.

I had low expectations to hostels after a lousy stay in a random hostel in Amsterdam, but this is insane for that small amount of money.
I even had my own room! No others in the 3 beds. Panoramic windows. This place should be flooded with people in my opinion.
I hope you will try instead of more known places.
