Detailed Reviews
The experience was precisely described on the website. I chose to stay in the Province during my solo travel. The room and bunks were clean. The windows on the north side opened allowing air into the room and the roof windows had shades to open allowing in light. Each bed has a lamp, USB power, and plug. The bedding was clean. The mattress was just right with sufficient room for my somewhat tall and large frame.
Having no WiFi in the room was pleasant. When needed, a quick trip to the common room allowed for internet access to recap the day past and plan for the next.
Located a short easy walk from the city center made for a nice quiet area and quick access to the heart of Haarlem. Visit the vendors when present at the Grote Markt.
Breakfast was quite filling. I could not quite finish the largest, "I’m Loving it All." The egg was well prepared, bread with excellent crumb, and the cheese... I asked about the cheese. They pointed me to the local vendor and now I have some with me for a few more meals.
Beverages were hot, coffee, and cold beer. All served promptly and with suggestions for the style of the moment.
Other guests appeared to enjoy their time, meals, and interactions with the staff. One fellow guest even joined me for dinner with my friends that evening.
HELPFUL!!! That appears to be the watchword for those employed at Hello I'm Local. Upon arrival, they promptly greeted me but ensured that the current customer was well cared for first. Each person with whom I interacted spoke several languages and promptly switched to that most comfortable for the guest. Each day of my stay they provided information and tips. As I departed, one staff member spent quite a bit of time with me to figure out the last leg of my journey in Holland.

We've spent a lovely time in this beautiful hotel in Haarlem. The room (Frans Hals) was stylish, the bed very very comfortable and it is organized as a small apartment, with a small kitchen, bathroom, and toilet included. A very nice place to relax in those difficult times. The staff is extremely friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable. The breakfast was good. Highly recommended!

This boutique hostel has an amazing design, delicious breakfast, perfect location within walking distance to most of the sights and most importantly, friendly and warm employees like Twan and Mele. They have open ears and always try their best to make your stay comfortable. If I’m back in Haarlem again, I would definitely go stay at this place again.
One little suggestion would probably if you could provide WiFi in the room as well, not only in the common area.

Positives: The staff were really friendly and helpful, and besides walking 15 minutes from the train station to get to the hostel, I really liked the location (near the canals and bridges), it was really beautiful.
The restaurant/lounge looks hip and cozy, and the place clearly makes an effort to make you feel as if you're welcome and part of a "family," but as you walk to the dorm room/kitchen it’s a different story. The floors were unfinished and the hallways looked like they were under construction. The kitchen was always cluttered, and the appliances needed a deep clean, so I barely used it, although there was a small fridge, free coffee/tea and a kettle you could use.
The ladders to the upper bunk are intimidating, you need to wear shoes on them because they hurt your feet (another guest commented on this too) so I had to keep my shoes at the end of my bed the entire stay (gross) There was no shelf in the upper bunk either so you always had to go up and down to grab your things - which again, required you to go up and down the intimidating ladder. Because of this I don't recommend the dorm room for older people or people who are afraid of heights, as the upper bunk is pretty high up there. They give you a chalkboard to write your name on, but there's no place to put it so it falls on the floor.
The wifi barely worked in the rooms so you had to sit in the restaurant area which I didn't mind so much, except the one small area with the fireplace was in the middle of a few rooms that were always occupied by big groups/families, so it didn’t feel like “your” area.
2/3 nights that I stayed there the hot water in the shower ran out, and the wifi stopped working in the restaurant at one point. (Mind you it was on a Saturday night during Easter weekend). The shower/toilet room were quite small to change in, and needed a deep clean. The shower was plugged often and there’s no door so water gets everywhere, you have to use this broom to sweep the water back in the shower. These all might seem like small things but combined it made for one very uncomfortable experience which I don’t think the price or the business "ethos" itself reflects. Furthermore these kinds of issues were typical in hostels maybe 10-15 years ago, but nowadays hostels in Europe have really raised the bar high to make sure A. the wifi doesn't cut out, B. You always have hot water and C. the kitchen is cleaned regularly instead of once a day. I expected better given the photos and positive reviews that I read beforehand...

I stayed mid week during Corona virus lockdown so it was really quiet. It did not at all feel like service was lesser for it, though there were a couple of items not available on the menu but that is totally understandable. I felt well looked after and have no complaints at all. The room was small but cosy and the bed was spacious and comfortable. One small negative is the sound of the extractor in the bathroom which goes on even if you walk near by the shower room and takes long to switch off, I could hear this from other rooms in the night and perhaps when the hostel is full it may be quite loud overall. I suppose this is better though than having any damp issues. Breakfast was substantial and the coffee tasty, home made apple pie in the evening was fantastic! The location was also perfect. The communal spaces were attractive, inviting and warm.

The hostel is truly one of the cutest I have ever seen. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I loved the bunks and the decor. I would highly recommend this hostel to a solo traveler or anyone who loves a great aesthetic! Haarlem was so great, I would go back and visit this hostel in a heartbeat!

This is my second time staying at Hello I'm Local, and it was just as good as I remembered! When you first come into the hostel, you are greeted by the most friendly staff that gives you lots of tips and advice on the area. The lounge room is really nice, with lots of delicious food and coffee on sale.
The location is perfect. It is in walking distance of all the sights of Haarlem, 15 mins on a train from Amsterdam, with easy access to the beach and the flower fields.
I always leave this hostel wishing I could stay longer because it is so nice! Five stars :)

Can thoroughly recommend this boutique hostel. I travelled solo and was definitely one of their older clients but it felt very easy and safe. I was later joined by family and grandchildren and it worked well for them too. It's an easy 10 minutes walk from the railway/bus station and close to the old town with its historic churches, town square, museums, bars and restaurants.
The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable, and there's also a cafe/bar on the premises.

Amazing experience, an amazing place, amazing people. My fiance and I booked 2 beds in a shared room, when we had arrived we were offered a privet bedroom for free. Right at the beginning they gave us a city map and showed us all the places to visit which was pleasant and helpful... and you feel the guys LOVE what they do and are truly committed to the job they do.IF Nederland than you have to visit the place.Shure again.

Friendly, clean, great beds. We’ve stayed here 3 times in the last year and will come again when needing an overnight stay in Haarlem. Great value for money. Most rooms do not have own toilet, but this never bothered us. We love the quirky hostel/hotel feel. Really more swanky hotel with hostel elements.

I'm not sure about private bath tub and toilet. I guess there is a private room with shower.
Hello,
