I was impressed with the hotel’s efforts to keep visitors safe from coronavirus. Upon arriving there is a hand sanitizer station to use as soon as you check in. We met with the owner Henk and received excellent recommendations about sites to visit and restaurants. He provided us with a custom map of the city where he marked points of interest. Henk was great about including our 9 year old son in the conversation too.
Our room looked like the pictures online and was stocked with a new bottle of hand sanitizer and alcohol wipes. The beds were fantastic and the bathroom was recently updated. The bathroom was spacious with a nice bright interior.
For breakfast we were treated to fresh squeezed orange juice, warm croissants and fresh fruit. The breakfast room had been divided into individual cubes for seating to keep guests safe while maintaining bright charming Dutch feeling. We all had our own hand sanitizer at our tables.
We visited on a warm week with 33 degrees. Our room had a high quality fan and the window opened fully which was nice. It is good to note that the stairs in this property are steep so if you have a mobility issue it might not be the best spot for you.
We loved the location. Such a great spot to easily walk to see things. You can walk to most spots in the downtown area within 10-15 min. We had a great visit to the Jopen Church Brewery. In addition there is a convenient parking garage within a 5 min walk.
I look forward to visiting again!!

I stayed in Hotel Malts September 14 – 23, 2021. The proprietors Henk and Annemarie are gracious and helpful hosts who work with each guest to make sure their stay in the Netherlands is enjoyable. They will provide all the information you need about local transportation, restaurants, museums, etc. Each morning a hearty and tasty breakfast is served including delicious baked goods, fruit, cheese, cold cuts and freshly made yogurt cups. The rooms are large and well appointed, quiet, and with spacious clean private bathrooms. The WiFi is strong and dependable. There is an excellent Asian fusion restaurant immediately next door. The Haarlem train station is a pleasant twelve minute walk away, with shopping along the route.
Haarlem is a beautiful small city, a real gem in my opinion, with beautiful streets, charming canals, and world-class museums. Hotel Malts is a short walk from the very pleasant market square overlooked by a magnificent church, and lined with restaurants and cafes. I strongly recommend staying in Haarlem as an alternative to the more expensive hotels in Amsterdam, which is only a ten minute train ride from Haarlem. Using Haarlem as a home base, I used the excellent Netherlands train system to take day trips to Amsterdam, Leiden, Delft, Utrecht, the Hauge and Rotterdam.
As in many buildings in the Netherlands, Hotel Malts has steep stairs. Henk is happy to carry your bags up to your room, but if your mobility is impaired, you may want to consider a newer building with an elevator.
All in all, I found Hotel Malts a great value and an excellent choice for my trip to the Netherlands.

We traveled to The Netherlands and Austria to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary (really 51 years due to Covid cancellation). But our 8 days at the B&B Malts in Haarlem was the highlight of our trip and well worth the rescheduling of our European trip. We stayed in both a "small room" and a "large room" and were more than pleased with them both. Even though our rooms were above a main street and we kept the windows open due to warm weather it was quiet and peaceful. The rooms were spotless and equipped with basics. But our 5+ star rating is due to the hospitality and kindness of the proprietors, Henk & Annemarie. The breakfast and open kitchen with coffee and an honor bar were comfortable and made each day very special. They also provided storage for extra luggage when we made an additional trip to Austria for a few days. They provided us with great information on things to do, train schedules, arrangements for early morning taxi service to the airport and great places to eat. But maybe the best advice they offered was to watch out for bicycles!

Hosts Henk and Annemarie could not have been more welcoming.
At breakfast Henk made freshly squeezed orange juice and Annemarie made us cappuccinos, great coffee. There is a large selection of pastries and breads, crushed mice (I will say no more you have to find out yourself!). There is also cheese, eggs, a selection of meats, fruit, salad but the best was a yoghurt, oats and fruit combo that changed daily, delicious.
We had planned a day in Amsterdam, although the main reason for our stay was the racing at Zandvoort (a brief 20 minute drive away, through the stunning suburbs and picturesque parks and coast roads). However Henk’s enthusiasm for Haarlem persuaded us to stay and find out more. He was right! The Tayler’s Museum is fascinating, well worth a visit. Shopping was brilliant and the architecture gave a sore neck from looking up at all the wonderful buildings.
Central Haarlem is flankers on all 4 sides by a canal. It is a ten minute walk north south or east west so easily navigated on foot. Malts is top right of the square, very close to the Raaks garage car park (quite expensive, but a 7 day pass at €73 was great value even for our 5 day stay). In the centre of the canal flanked square is a central plaza with Holland’s third oldest church. There are numerous pedestrianised streets off around this area and some brilliant independent shops.
Walking along the canals was a joy, there are smaller ones which are like tree lined avenues, very beautiful.
Zandvoort was also a surprise, whilst were only going to see the DTM racing the Mike after mile of Sandy beach was reminiscent of the South of France.
However my abiding memory will be of breakfast with Henk & Annemarie, the stunning architecture, independent boutique shops, the most amazing Indonesian Restaurant (Bistrobar Indonesia, fantastic food the like of which I have never seen) and Japon wheat beer at the Japon brewery (3 mins from Malts).
Thank you H & A

Hi Joel and Noel, Thank you for the kind words and being receptive to all the information about Haarlem. We just want to prevent that people leave Haarlem without knowing what they may have missed! And then it is up to them to decide if they want to explore all the riches Haarlem has to offer. Glad you enjoyed it. And hope to see you back soon! Henk and Annemarie B&B Hotel Malts

Every positive recommendation wee read about Hotel Malts we found to be true. The hosts are true professionals, and always available to answer questions, help with luggage, give advice, etc. The breakfasts we were served looked exactly like the one pictured on their web page, and it was always served with a smile. Our room was comfortable, spotless, quiet, and centrally located so as to provide a rest during days of touring Haarlem. Our experience could NOT have been better.

We recently stayed for 6 nights. Highly recommend. Hotel rooms are modern, clean, great breakfast included and can't say enough good things about the responsive and accommodating hosts who help you get your most out of your stay. Hotel is located very near the city centre but on a relatively quiet street and a short walk from the train station which gets you everywhere easily. We fussed over staying in Amsterdam vs Haarlem but Haarlem and Hotel Malts was clearly the right choice.

Hi, thank you for the nice words. And they are right folks: never fuss about Amsterdam vs Haarlem, because Haarlem has all the good things of Amsterdam on a more authentic scale. And Amsterdam is only 15-19 minutes by train away. But we prefer to go the other direction: with the bike throught the National Park towards the coast and sandy beach. See you soon! This is a charming little hotel a few minutes walk from the Market Square and St Bavo Church. Our hosts, Annemarie and Henk, were extremely helpful in all matters from telling us what to see, bike tours to providing us with an early packaged breakfast to meet our travel schedule. The rooms are basic but very clean and efficiently laid out. Breakfast room has everything one could want for a Dutch breakfast. Definitely worth coming back to in the future.

We stayed in B&B Hotel Malts for three nights, had two large and nicely furnished rooms, both for three persons. We truly felt ourselves warmly welcomed!
Breakfast was good with fresh orange juice and warm bread. We got some good tips for nice restaurants in the neighbourhood and also for some places worth a visit.
I really can recommend this place!

We spent 4 nights at this wonderful hotel and it was the perfect start to our vacation. We arrived very jet lagged and were warmly welcomed by Henk and Annemarie. Henk provided us with a great overview of Haarlem and assisted us in getting our bags up to our room. The hotel is perfectly situated, close to the main attractions and lots of excellent restaurants. Our room was spotlessly clean and had huge windows (with excellent soundproofing). Breakfast was amazing with lots of choices and great coffee. The breakfast room is the perfect space to relax in after a long day of sightseeing (we appreciated the well-stocked honour bar for a cold drink). Henk and Annemarie are amazing hosts and will go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. I highly recommend this property and would not hesitate to stay here again. Haarlem is a absolute gem of a city.

We loved this bed and breakfast for many reasons. The owners take their time to make you feel welcomed and show you the attractions and restaurants in the area. Breakfast was excellent with fresh squeezed orange juice, meats and cheeses, and an assortment of breads. The location was conveniently located near the Grote Market. Highly recommend.

Dear Guest, thank you for your interest and your question.
We do not have air-conditioning, but all our rooms have a window that you can open, all our rooms have a fan in the room and we do have an air-ventilation system. As we do not live far from the sea, we do have a sea-climate, the average temperature in Haarlem in August is 21 degrees Celsius. We trust to have informed you sufficiently and look forward welcoming you in August in our B&B Hotel!

Nottingham, United Kingdom224 contributions143 helpful votesThinking of staying July 12-14 but we will have a car - is there parking?
Dear Guest,
We do not have private parking but there’s a general parking garage: Raaks, Zijlvest 45 – 2011 VB Haarlem , not even 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
• tariff 08.00 to 19.00 hrs : € 1,60 p.41 minutes
• nighttariff from 19.00 to 08.00 : only 1 x € 2,70 per parking.
Another possibility is to park for free at the Transferium P+R at Railway Station Spaarnewoude (close to IKEA) or Station Overveen. Once you parked the car you can take the train (buy the ticket at the machine at the platform) to Station Haarlem (next station) and from the station it is about 10 minutes walk following de Kruisweg which leads to Kruisstraat, Barteljorisstraat or Nieuw Groenmarkt to Zijlstraat (Hotel Malts, nr 56-58)
Outside the City-centre, you can also park for free in the residential area close to Nelson Mandela Park (north of Railstation) about 20 minutes walk along the river Spaarne, back to the hotel.
For more information you can also check our website.
Look forward welcoming you at our B&B Hotel Malts.
