The W Amsterdam draws mixed reactions, with its prime location earning high marks for accessibility to local sights. However, some guests have called out the hotel for its room cleanliness, temperature issues, and noise disruptions. While the ambiance is marred by loud music for many travelers, others find the design either outdated or overly trendy. Opinions on value are predominantly negative, citing overpriced services. Amenities like the spa receive praise, yet service experiences vary, ranging from commendable to disappointing.

First time that I have stayed in a W hotel and it will not be the last.

A great welcome at reception from a friendly team who wanted to make sure that we had a great stay. Our room in the Exchange Building was comfortable, well designed and had a nice view of the palace.

The spa, located in the Bank building benefits from being located in the original bank vaults. It was stylish, well equipped and although popular, it didn’t feel too busy. The gentleman’s changing rooms are a very small space and would benefit from expansion.

The whatever/whenever service works well and concierge were able to organise tickets as required.

We loved the Mr Porter restaurant. They luckily managed to squeeze us in on the day and we sat on the kitchen table which we felt was better than being sat elsewhere. It was fun watching the talented brigade of chefs cook some really high quality food. The bar next door offers a great night time viewing spot as well as very good cocktails.

The hotel offers an excellent location, right next to Dam Square and is an easy walk to the central train station; perfect if you want to be in the city centre.

I was concerned the hotel may be noisy at night but aside from the tram bell (which wasn’t loud) I couldn’t hear any noise from the bedroom.

A great stay and will definitely return to this hotel.

Dear The_LDN_Traveller, Wow, I am absolutely thrilled that you had such an amazing experience with us at W Amsterdam during your recent visit. It is wonderful to read that you had the chance to experience many of our unique experiences such as our Away Spa, a true escape from the city center's hustle and bustle, located in the former bank's vaults as well as Mr Porter, our highly sought-after roof top restaurant and bar. Not to worry, there's much more to explore during your next visit to Detox. Retox. Repeat. We all are looking forward to welcoming you back soon. I had a wonderful stay at the W Amsterdam. The staff were extremely helpful, both prior to (with organizing the room and dinner requests) and during my visit. They were extremely friendly, welcoming and very attentive to my needs.

We stayed in a Wonderful Room which was simply "wonderful". Nice big space, large windows and great view. I liked that the room was very "connected/modern digital" in that you had a speaker to connect your music, cool day and night lighting, electric blinds and thermostat.

The W Lounge is also very trendy. It is on the top floor of the building. The cocktails (although a little pricey but expected for a 5 star hotel) were amazing. Great variety. The outdoor terrace (rooftop terrace) was very trendy with a great view of Amsterdam. They also have a pool in the lounge that apparently some guests use during the summer (at least pre-Covid era). It is more like a splash pool, not that big and you would have to feel extremely comfortable with yourself as you are on display to everyone having drinks in the lounge.

We ordered the Mr. Porter dinner special as the restaurants are closed at 6pm in Amsterdam because of the Covid regulations. It was a great experience as you felt like you were dining in a private restaurant. The restaurant sets up a table in your room and delivers food one course at a time. They take away plates after each course. They can't however serve you in the room due to current rules and regulations so you pick it up from them in the hallway. The food was excellent and great value for money.

I would highly recommend this hotel but more so for a getaway with friends or with your partner.

I have stayed at the W in Hong Kong, so chose this property for our weekend break in Amsterdam. The public areas on the 6th floor are very nice with lovely views. We had rooms on the 4th floor in the same building, the Exchange. The hotel store their spare beds in the guest corridors, which lowers the "luxury" , a makes it feel more "hostel".The rooms are dark , looking out onto an internal courtyard, and reminds me of a shipping container. I found toilet paper stuffed into the air vents in the toilet, and on the light sensor. Obviously a previous guest had done that but housekeeping failed to notice when cleaning the room. The hairdryer in my room was broken, and the free internet is terrible. But the real problem I had was the DJ music at night. The sound travels down the internal courtyard and the noise and vibrations are loud enough to keep you awake. If you are going to Amsterdam to party then this will not be a problem, but we were going for a relaxing weekend away, and I have come home sleep deprived and weary. The sprinkler system in my daughter's room went off when we were at breakfast so she returned to find half the room soaking wet. Fortunately we were checking out and bags were packed so no damage to personal items. The hotel have also reached out via email to apologise for this. The staff at the concierge and the restaurant were great - very friendly and accommodating, so they definitely were the highlight of our stay.

Hi Rachel P, We appreciate the fact that you took the time to share your thoughts regarding your stay at W Amsterdam. We are very saddened to hear that we didn't exceed expectations and appreciate your feedback so that we may continually improve. On the more positive hand, I am glad to hear you enjoyed our W Lounge on the 6th floor, our restaurants and the high quality service of our Talent. We are disappointed to hear that we tried making it up to you but that we did not succeed. Please rest assured that this is certainly not indicative of our usual guest experiences and not a reflection of the high standards of service we pride ourselves on here at W Amsterdam. We hope you will give us another chance in the future. Perhaps we could show you a different room type with a view more up to your preferences. All the best, Remco.vankamp@whotels.com General Manager

I read Stan842’s review of the W Amsterdam after I booked my stay at the W, but since I had 70,000 Bonvoy points that was about to expire, I booked with my points and additional cash for one night stay at the Marvelous Exchange duplex suite at the W Amsterdam (after my stay at the Andez and before my stay the Conservatorium).

At check in, which is at the top floor of the Exchange building (W occupies two separate buildings – the Exchange building and the Bank Building), there was a wait to check in so I wanted to use the restroom. I was directed down a dark, steep, and narrow stairway to the floor below. A female bar patron in her high heels who was also trying to maneuver her way down the dark narrow stairway mentioned that after a couple of drinks, she might fall to her death and not make it back up to her friends at the bar because the stairway is so treacherous.

The person who checked us in was an inter –nervous as hell- but did her best by explaining the suite that I booked and how it was already paid by points and cash. I mentioned that I received a text from my Bonvoy app. Requested that I check in by phone the day before, and can use my phone as key without checking in at registration, but it didn’t work. I was told that App to check in and use my phone as key only work in the U.S. and not in the Netherlands. Oh well, no big deal!

We showed ourselves to out suite, as the hotel is short staffed, and no bell person was around. That was okay with me as well. The room is two levels with concrete walls and floor, sitting area on the lower flo with a wash room, and a vinyl record player with few vinyl records on the shelf. The vinyl player didn’t work. No bid deal for me.

The A/C was never cold enough for me, and the lighting is motion sensitive, so if you are up stairs in the bathroom and not moved for a while, the lights turn off and you are left completely in the dark. That happened several times, which is really annoying and quite dangerous. The bed was comfortable but the décor was too industrial for my taste.

As a Gold Elite Bonvoy member, I could have requested for late checkout, but I was notified and found out from my Bonvoy app that I was already checked out before noon. Whatever, I didn’t want to stay either and was looking forward to my suite at the Conservatorium.

Long story short, I never received my bill until a week after I came back to Los Angles and found that W Amsterdam had charged my credit that I used for incidentals for an entire stay, which has already been paid. Really missed up. Horrible experience.

All I can say about the W Amsterdam is …….Wow. In general, W hotels are my “cup of tea”. Trendy, modern and a little weird but after staying in a few w properties, I know what really makes the brand is the people they hire. From blue hair to tattoos it doesn’t matter what they look like …..these folks are always always willing to go the extra mile for the guest. Living up to the “whenever wherever” slogan. Amsterdam is no exception. Arriving, our check in experience with Milo and most of all Pius and Georgia was easy and super helpful. Given the lockdown restrictions and reduced capabilities of the hotel they walked us through everything we needed to know. As Bonvoy ambassador we were upgrade to the Extreme Wow suite. We were staying in Amsterdam for our anniversary and later that day Georgia and Enrica (public relations) stopped by the room to help us finalize the plans for the evening and to just have a super pleasant conversation. Room was exciting with all the modern amenities for the 2022 nomad or frequent business traveler with the classic W mix of local culture and art highlighted. Also a super positive interaction that evening with Maibell of the cleaning staff when she stop by to check if we needed any cleaning for the evening. Final despite being his last day at the Hotel Micheal …… (gentlemen who moved to the Renaissance hotel) was a gem. Brokedown all the capabilities of the suite. Losing him is a L for the W team but a Win for the Bonvoy franchise.

Location: great near major sites and shopping centers.
Staff: incredible
Spa (wet area): once in a lifetime experience. The incorporated bank infrastructure with the design of the Wet Area is soo cool and aesthetically pleasing. Only draw back is because the hotel encompasses two separate buildings and access to the wet area is through a retail store, you cant just walk to the spa in your rode. This is not the worse things as there are staff and changing rooms in the wet area.
Room Service: it is ok…. They don’t have traditional room service available at the moment but there is some stuff through the hotel restaurant which seems to be a three party. They also charge like 8€ for delivery which is Almost the price of a burger on the room service menu. But it would be nice to have a more traditional room service where guest could order food and cocktail prepared in house.
The deliver apps are super easy to use in Amsterdam.
Bar: closed due to restrictions
Restaurant: closed due to restrictions

Thanks for the experience team W Amsterdam!!

Billy

My husband and I stayed at W Amsterdam hotel in May and we had a great experience. We stayed in the Cool Corner suite, a gorgeous room with a typical old Amsterdam view, very confortable matress and pillows, a huge shower room and really cool furniture. The hotel's location is in the very heart of the city, behind Dam Square, the shopping streets are few minutes walk. But the highlight of our stay was the staff: all the employees have been extremely kind, professional and helpful. From the front desk manager Enrica to the front desk agents, Mrs Giorgia, Amber, Nina, Giulia, Raphael, Carlos, Javier and all the others whose names I don't unfortunately remember, to all of them I would like to express my gratitude for having made my holiday an unforgettable one.
The visits to Mr. Porter restaurant and to the cool W Lounge were also perfect, with delicious food and original, very tasty cocktails.
We can heartily recommend the W Hotel to all travellers who want to enjoy a perfect holiday.

We stayed here for a couple of nights at the end of April. Concierge and Reception gave great service very friendly and helpful. The W Lounge is lovely and as the weather was cold we really appreciated the gas log fire. Service was quite slow in here and it was rammed on Friday and Saturday night so much so even though we were residents we couldn’t get in for early evening drinks on the Saturday night.

The bedrooms are funky and quirky very clean and certainly enough storage for a couple of nights. I’m sure some people love having the shower in the middle of the bedroom but it wasn’t really for us! Hotel’s location is a 10/10 right on Dam Square with most attractions within walking distance.

We had a really pleasant stay at the W Hotel Amsterdam.

When we arrived by car we were immediately greeted outside by very friendly and helpful Hassan who took care of our luggage and car.
According to my research there is no public car park nearby and finding a parking place around the hotel is really difficult. So the best option is to park in front of the hotel (short term parking) and use W hotel valet parking (60 Euros for 24 hours).

We were send to the sixth floor where the reception is. Thankfully our room was ready even though we arrived before noon (we had asked if this is possible beforehand). Very much appreciated.

The hotel has a small pool on the sixth floor. On the sixth floor is also the public Mr. Porter restaurant (serves as breakfast room for W hotel) and the W Lounge. The W Lounge is also open for non-guests and the W Lounge doors open towards the pool. In the evening it was great to sit next to the pool and chat with friends.

Breakfast was marvelous. Attentive and lovely breakfast team, beautiful place on the roof terrace outside and the best croissants I had in a long time. Everything at the buffet was delightful.

The only thing I did not like was the ventilation in our room. For sleeping we deactivated the air condition but for the whole night the normal room ventilation was pretty loud (it sounded like a forever flushing toilet). I am sure this was only a hiccup in our room and if we had stayed longer then I would have asked to change the room or have it fixed.

I organized a two day trip to amsterdam for my boyfriend’s birthday, he loved it ! Giorgia from the Insiders team helped me surprise him with balloons and pictures of us and a slinger she did such an amazing job to make the room romantic and cozy. At check in they offered us a free upgrade, the room was a dream, we loved the bathtub! Giorgia recommended us to get dinner from The Butcher right across the street, we called in advance and we enjoyed the tasty burgers at the table in the room.
Thank you W Hotel and especially Giorgia for making our stay a dream, we will definitely come back to enjoy the Spa, Swimming pool and Bar when it’s going to open again!

Hi Josephine199224, Great to hear that you are visiting us at W Amsterdam soon. MAD FOX has closed back in April 2019. Our outdoor WET deck on the Exchange side is open year round, the pool with magnificent views of the Royal Palace is heated. If it's too cold outside though, not to worry, our Away Spa on the Bank side has a magnificent indoor pool in the former bank's vaults. Our resident DJs will be spinning in the W Lounge during the weekend. Plenty of opportunities to DETOX. RETOX. REPEAT. We are looking forward to welcoming you soon! Very best regards, Jens

It depends. Mr Porter (the rooftop steak restaurant) was pricey (€150 plus for two having two courses with sides and a couple of cocktails each). It was amazing food though. Rooftop bar cocktails were €15 plus. Not sure if they did food there as well.
