We were initially given room 20, which looked pretty dismal with stained capeting, draperies torn from their hooks, and a spare mattress propped up in the corner. We didn't realize how bad it was until the next morning when my husband found bed bugs on his comforter and mattress. We packed up and told a staff member. She shrugged and said she'd have to wait for a call from the manager. We had to leave for timed museum tickets, but when we returned in the afternoon we were immediately told that we were being moved to room 19, one floor below. This room had the same stained carpeting, but at least the beds were on legs, as opposed to the former room, and were off the floor. I layed on the bed and an hour later I saw bed bugs next to my pillow. I pulled back the sheet and saw more. We again packed our bags and waited in the restaurant for a solution. Again I was told they needed to wait for a call back from the manager, who apparently isn't on site. After waiting ninety minutes we were moved to room number four, which had laminate flooring and newer draperies, but the duvet had blood stains, so I would guess ours is not an isolated case. However, we didn't experience any bugs in this room. The staff seemed sincere when they apologized and gave us a meal on the house. The location is good. The street noise is significant, depending upon the room location. The restaurant is ok. We had lunch and dinner. The breakfast isn't served until 8:30 am, so although we paid for breakfast with the room we couldn't take it the day we had a tour that began at 8 am. Overall, I would not risk a bed bug infestation or return to this hotel. …
I found the hotel to be very poor and run down, the hotel was nothing like the pictures on the booking site that showed a reasonable place to stay. When we checked in and the corridors were full of bed linen. Very noisy in the actual corridors, with the people in and out of rooms but no door sup-resents to stop the doors slamming. The corridor carpets are bare so can hear every footstep. Window cleaners at 7am doing the bedroom windows. Hotel cat whilst taking deliveries was sat on the tomatoes, tried to get a photo but too many staff taking in the delivery including the chef, whilst people were awaiting there breakfast orders. Certainly tried to speak to the receptionist, who was also the breakfast waitress and bar attendant. The manager and house keepers disappeared after the stock was bought in. Breakfast even thought they tell you is complimentary on arrival you still have to pay for anything cooked, so Tea and coffee is complimentary. My overall opinion is that this is not a great hotel. I certainly will not be returning.…
This is a perfect stay for young couples. The hotel is above a restaurant with a bar. The waiters double up as the hotel staff as well. Nothing is too much trouble and we felt very welcomed. The rooms are clean, modern and the bathrooms look recently renovated. I’d suggest they finish it off by replacing the carpets, which were stained, with a easier to manage wooden floor but otherwise no complaints. Our room had big windows which opened up overlooking the street below. It was stunning. If anything, the stairs are a bit steep so be careful with heavy luggage, if you are an older couple or if you have young children. I would definitely return. …
Cheap and cheerful hotel, just not actually cheap and staff weren't particularly cheerful either. Excellent location right in the middle of town, easy walking to pretty much everything. We had a family room - very steep stairs with loose carpet on one tread! Assume it's being done up - parts of the room were nice and assume recently upgraded, but time for the carpet and curtains to be replaced (stained and ripped!). Bedding, bathroom etc was clean. Average continental breakfast.…
We chose this hotel for its competitive price and brilliant location, but were sadly disappointed in our stay. Our first room was on the fourth floor in the attic, no lift and two pairs of dodgy, middle aged knees. It was a struggle going up and down the stairs, which we did anticipate that they would be steep but nothing could of prepared us, except training on the stair master. The room (No11) - was small for two, nowhere to put our backpacks and then there was the delightful opaque bathroom door that did not close properly. Water obviously struggled uphill as week, as at best it was a lukewarm trickle. Thank goodness for the two fans though, they were appreciated. The next morning we bravely requested if a change of room to a lower floor was possible and this was accommodated with thanks. Whilst it was larger and the bathroom was not directly facing the bed area, we were given no soap, shampoo etc. No fan and it made the nights a tad uncomfortable. Breakfast was basic but good, if you could get through the scrum to grab a cup of coffee and the toaster, yep they need to invest in another. Overall, we were disappointed in the rooms and the lack at times of customer service. The young lady who checked us in, seemed to ignore us deliberately after we requested a new room, the Irish lass was busy showing us her war wounds which included taking her arm out of her t-shirt. Table service for a drink took 15mins just to order (not busy at the time). Chef and his team were great keeping up with the needs at the daily breakfast scrum. And finally, your saving grace was this morning when we were leaving, it was raining and the Manager (lovely gentleman), gave us a couple of umbrellas as we headed off to the station. Luckily this establishment did not deter us from having a wonderful time in Amsterdam.…
