Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Us and another couple were stationed here for 4 nights and had the two rooms at the 3rd floor. Hotel is very well located, within walking distance of almost every objective, the nearby area is filled with restaurants. There's an Albert Heijn supermarket 3 minutes away and lots of other shops around. Check-in and check-out went smoothly, the staff was very friendly and helpful, at night the access in the hotel was secured with the room card. Room was spotless clean, warm, bathroom well stocked with amenities and well ventilated. The stairs were indeed a challenge, but there are plenty of warnings by other reviewers and we knew what to expect. The window didn't close very well. Although provided, we didn't serve breakfast at the hotel, but by the looks of it the lobby would be too small to accommodate all guests. Rooms facing the street are noisier. Also, there's the noise from all the planes landing at Schiphol in the morning, but obviously this isn't the hotel's fault and most centrally located hotels would be affected by this; just know what to expect. Apart from the access to the upper floors and maybe room size we saw no difference between this hotel and a 3 star rated one. Would recommend if you're ok with the above observations.

When we arrived at around 11am were told we couldn't book in till 3pm. Very close to all attractions in city. Towels in bathroom were stained and one day we got back to our room and had no towels. For breakfast the first morning there was one cereal, white bread, cheeses and cold meats. For a buffet this was very poor and expected to have croissants but only had these 2 of the 5 days we stayed. No eggs on breakfast menu.Girl on our first day was rude when she was doing our breakfast tables weren't laid that day.i asked where cutlery was and she pointed and said it's all there in a voice like she couldn't care a less. Some of the staff were very standoffish. The guy who served us breakfast rest of week was very polite and had laid table. Light by bed didn't work in bedroom. Stairs to room very steep not suitable if your elderly, disabled or have large suitcase.

Booked a double room with private bathroom for 2 nights in this hotel. The room that we had was in the basement and it looked modern. Even though it was on the basement, there was no basement smell at all. The room and the small hallway smelled good. Thumbs up for that. Their bed is comfortable. They cleaned our room even if we did not ask for it and I take that as a good gesture as we just forgot to put the card on the knob when we left. The only downside is they dont have ac. Good thing it was cool weather when we went to Amsterdam and it was not a problem at all. The receptionists were also nice and helpful althoughn there is no person on the desk beyond 11pm. It is also a good location and easy to walk around attractions.

We stayed for 2 nights while our weekend getaway in Amsterdam. Initially we chose this hotel for its central location. And well, it was fine. I guess you get what you pay for. The best things about this hotel are it’s location and that it was surprisingly quiet during the night. Very quirky stairs, made me think to start climbing classes. On the downside the shower had no door or curtain so the water splashed everywhere. And smelled quite strongly of sewage. The sink is useless as the tap is way too long and even washing hands was tricky. The bed had a weird mattress topper that makes you feel you are falling into a funnel but at the same time we managed to sleep anyway after walking about. All in all, an ok spot to sleep if you got a tight budget.

So if you are trying save a little money on your trip - don’t save it by staying here. The room was so small. I mean - my closet at home is bigger. I’ve stayed in many European hotels and even in “single” rooms. The time twin bed was hard as a rock and I kept hitting my knee on the radiator cause it was right there crammed together. No A/C so you got hear the going’s on of the city all night and morning - along with a few Mosquito bites. You can hear everything the other rooms are doing and yes - the stairs are steep as —-/. “Breakfast” was included. Ugh. Yeah no thanks. It was clean and has an excellent location. Only reason it has 2 stars.

How far is this hotel from dam square?
Hello Alexis, Depending on your age is what it takes. I am in the 60's and it took me non stop Just window browsing, 18-20 minutes. I will guarantee there will be delays. Shopping , bakeries etc foods, that is why walking is better than public transportation, you do not miss everything. Thought I would suggest a better hotel or condo rental. This one you could not get to the bathroom if your waist line was 36". You had to move the bed. Have a great day Wesley

Yes get the bus. There is a map of the route they take. Sorry I dont have it off hand. Google it and book a hotel along the route and have an easy walk. I stayed at Hotel Expresso and Inner Hotel before, both good.

We spent a few nights at this hotel and never saw any rats. We were on the top floor so not sure if this had anything to do with not seeing any. The only problem we had was the smell of the toilet which constantly smelled of urine. Hope this helps your decision.
