Booked for a birthday weekend, and for £100 each for 3 nights I didn’t think I’d be sleeping at the ritz however, I was quite shocked that this hotel was 1) 2 star and 2) Legal. To save me banging on I’ll just list the good and bad. Pros: - excellent location, stones throw away from shops, bars, coffee shops, tours, train station etc etc - you get soap Cons: Everything else: - lack of room - dirty bedsheets and towels (pubic hair and stains found) - minuscule bathroom barely enough room to turn around - unsafe bedspaces- top bunk next to open window and easily able to fall out! - the steepest stairs you’ll ever encounter- more like climbing Mount Everest if you ever reach level 5 - no lift - lockers without locks - no remote for tv - Boiling temperature but wasn’t able to open window at night due to possible death of one of my friends We ended up staying out from morning until night just to avoid having to return to what we called our prison cell. It’s great for a cheap, hostel type stay for maybe one night but anything else just avoid it!…
Me and three friends stayed here last November, it was perfect for what we needed. Very clean, warm and cosy. AMAZING location. Cheap when split between four of you. Would definitely return. Bit noisy but what do you expect in the centre of Dam! Loved this place.
We had arrived early at the hotel, and the check-in took a while as the staff was dealing with another customer on the phone. They were very accommodating and allowed us to leave our suitcases with them whilst we explored the city. When we returned to the hotel, the staff did suggested that if we were unhappy with the room they can change this for us as they weren't fully booked. We did end up changing our rooms as the climb was too much for us and the place was very stuffy for us. Eventually we changed to a room below, and it seemed to be recently refurbished so it was very clean and slightly more spacious. The stairs are steep and there are no lifts, so you do need to be in a fit condition to climb up these stairs ~ we only reached the fourth floor and most of us were huffing and puffing. Some of the staffs looked rather miserable, but it did seem like it was a one man band running the show at times because they had to deal with the reception and also the bar at the same time. They don't really clean the rooms on a daily basis, but do provide fresh towels.…
I’d say this hotel is good value for money. It’s really close to the central train station, the city life and Ted light district. We stayed on the first floor in a 4 bed room. A bit noisy on evenings and morning city cleanup, but what the hell - we are in the middle of the city! Worth knowing is that is I directly neighbour to a coffee shop. …
For the price, you know that you're not expecting luxury but it was still unpleasant to stay here. Being on the 5th floor was a nightmare. The stairs were ridiculously narrow and almost felt dangerous. Most importantly, you need to know that the hotel is situated right outside a building with very, very loud chiming bells that don't stop till quite late at night and start early in the morning making sleeping a nightmare unless you're a very heavy sleeper. In our room, there were mysterious stains on the beds and curtains. Next to my bed was a wide, unshuttable window and as I was on the top bunk, it would have been quite easy for me to roll over in my sleep and fall out of it. Our room was for 6 people but it felt too cramped for even 5. The lockers in our room didn't actually have locks on them so felt a bit redundant. One of the days on our stay the power cut out from our room however it did get fixed once the receptionist was notified. The one thing I can complement the hotel on is it's great location. You're right in the city centre and are in walking distance of all of Amsterdam's main attractions. Next door but one from the hotel is a decent coffeeshop too. If you can put up with the quality of the rooms, it'd be ideal for a budget short stay but for the sake of paying and walking a little more, you're better off elsewhere.…
