Detailed Reviews
We booked the top floor ‘suite’ which has two adjoining rooms with a shared shower room. Although there were no bedroom doors, the corridor was angled to afford privacy.
The views from the windows were worth the climb and the rooms were comfortable, attractive and well equipped.
The staff were friendly and helpful and we were able to leave our bags in a secure room after checking out.
The location was great too: a short easy tram ride from Centraal Station, close enough to the main touristy areas but not too close, on a pretty, quiet street away from the tourist traps.
Would stay here again.

Hotel Dwars is located within easy reach of the sites and Centraal (by nearby tram). We opted to walk everywhere anyway and most places were 15-20 minutes amble along the canal. The location is in a very nice part of the city and there are numerous bars and restaurants nearby, some literally steps from the front door. That said, it was always quiet in the rooms. There are only nine rooms, which are compact but well designed and very ergonomic. The stairs are steep - which is common for this type of property - but manageable and the staff very kindly carried our main bag up as my wife arrived shortly before me. I would definitely recommend both the hotel and the location.

I booked this hotel for my sons birthday, and the staff couldn’t have done enough for me I asked for a balloon , as some sort of decoration to mark the day , and also ordered a small cake to be delivered however when my son arrived the room had balloons and buntings everywhere .The staff had made a great effort on my behalf , and the cake was delivered from a beautiful cheesecake shop close by . I paid for the cake prior to the visit however the decorations were all the kind work of the Dwars Hotel’s staff . This hotel doesn’t have breakfast facilities but they will direct their visitors to the hidden gems in Amsterdam for great food away from the tourist areas A big thank you to all, and for the prompt replies to my messages
Thanks

Not knowing Amsterdam at all, after browsing the Internet for a while, we chose this hotel. The location is excellent, but as soon as you enter you discover that there is a very steep and narrow staircase to reach your room; in fact unfortunately we were placed on the third floor. The room is really small: we had taken a triple room but there was a single bed and a double bed very close to each other, no wardrobe, very small bathroom without any support for underwear, a towel, or toothpaste. There isn't even a drawer nor a support for the suitcase. We stayed four nights and they never cleaned despite the sign on the handle, after our report they apologized with a bottle of wine and said they would come straight away and we found this very nice! One evening the Internet wasn't working and we were almost out of toilet paper, we had to call a number that was on a sign, but this number told us to call another number and with this second number after 10 minutes they took us the paper hygienic! Everything in this hotel is designed to save money, in fact there is almost never staff. But we paid €1500 for four nights. Recommended for the location but really very very small. However, it is inside a typical Amsterdam building so I think the elevator cannot be installed. Another nice thing: they lent us umbrellas when it rains.
The first night they changed our towels even though they weren't on the floor. The bins are very small and you have to carry the rubbish underneath. There is almost never any staff present and you enter and exit alone. Obviously there is no breakfast service.

+1
The hotel room itself is designed so nicely and very quirky and modern. The room (unless requested not to) was cleaned everyday.
The staff were super helpful. We had issues with our key not working on our first evening and we contacted staff who came back to the hotel and sorted that out (very grateful)!
There’s coffee/tea and fresh water left out. My only recommendation would be for a mini fridge to be installed due to the fact the hotel doesn’t offer breakfast, a fridge would be perfect for milk for breakfast etc.
The help sheet which the hotel provide is amazing! This hinted on the best restaurants etc and this really helped find some diamonds such as moeders which serves amazing Dutch food.
Overall a beautiful hotel in a beautiful city!

From the moment we arrived it was just great. A cute cosy room, which was spotlessly clean.
We were room 04, which was a little noisy being at the top of the first stairs, but it was something we anticipated and was only other couples returning/leaving so wasn’t too bad for noise, but be wary you are basically sharing a small townhouse, which does creak and make some noise!
This didn’t bother us however, the bathroom flooring is heated which we didn’t want to leave, and the room was immaculate, with fresh towels, and coffee etc offered if you ask.
Great central location, we walked everywhere and thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Would recommend and return! Lovely.

My mum and I visited the Hotel Dwars for mum's 50th birthday and we had an absolutely fantastic stay. The staff were friendly and helpful from the off; sending directions and offering assistance if necessary. When we arrived the staff had decorated the room for mum's birthday with balloons, banners, confetti and a lovely big bar of chocolate. All staff members were lovely and the location was perfect; close to a tram line but far enough from the city centre for it to be peaceful. The room was clean and had everything you could require. The beds were comfortable and the shower was big and roomy. I would recommend the Hotel Dwars to anybody :)

We stayed at the Hotel Dwars for 6 nights.
- Extremely narrow staircase and no lift.
- The room was inadequately small for three people.
- The shower door leaked water into the bathroom.
- The desk was tiny and entirely filled with coffee making facilities
- The one chair was the completely wrong height so that you can't work at the desk anyway
- The staff are only present for part of the day. Messages on the online chat often go unanswered, especially at night and during the weekend. Phone calls are seldom answered.
- The internet was mostly unstable, especially at night. This made working in the evenings impossible.
- The staff claimed to have reset it several times but this failed to solve the problem. They also claimed that they could not do anything over the weekend.
- The internet outage lasted until the end of our stay and was never resolved.
- The lack of reliable wifi was sigificantly disruptive to our schedule and required us to spend lots of money to pay for our own internet
- The manager was apparently on holiday while we were there but has not responded to any emails since then.
All in all, a completely unacceptable level of service.

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL ! The management at this hotel seem oblivious to the global pandemic and as a result my daughter and her large group of friends have lost 100% of the cost of their stay. The greedy management claim they have allowed them to reschedule but both times lockdowns here and in Holland have stopped them travelling. As a group of students they are bound by term dates and the travel restrictions were beyond their control but the very unhelpful staff seem to prefer taking all of their money than attempt to reschedule.

Centrally located hotel clean and friendly. Room only and no lifts with steep stairs. We had room 8 which was at the back of the hotel and perfectly quiet. Clean and very comfortable, all you need when all you will do is wash and sleep. Bags can be stored for late flights. Very quirky with excellent facilities, power shower and soap, shower gel and shampoo. Plenty of places to eat and drink nearby.

Within easy walking .... and there are some fabulous restaurants & shops very close !
Regular trains run into Amsterdam and the number 4 tram from in front of the station to Prinsenhof Bridge. One minute walk to Hotel.
