The Doria Hotel is perfect for those who want to sleep and explore.
PROS:
•It’s located 2mins from Dam Square & The Royal Palace but approximately 1hr drive or 30mins-45mins by train from the airport.
•There are numerous restaurants situated along the streets on both sides
• The staff at the check-in desk are friendly and helpful
• Good wifi connections

CONS:
• The rooms appear bigger in the photos online than in person. It was a bit cramp for two individuals
• The toilet in the bathroom is position badly, that is, you can’t sit properly on the seat
• The breakfast provided is very limited
• The rooms are not air-conditioned but a fan is provided. This was not a problem for me as the weather was very cool and been assigned a top floor, we were able to leave the window open for the cool breeze to enter

Myself and 2 friends visited here at the end of March. It was our first time in Amsterdam and the location of this hotel was perfect. It was just off dam square on a busy street. The hotel could do with a face lift, but it was clean, the beds were comfortable and we had everything we needed. We got it at a great price, with breakfast included. It was a continental breakfast and it was fine. We ate at the restaurant on 2 evenings and it was beautiful and so reasonable. If I'm in Amsterdam again I would definitely stay here again, the location is perfect and the staff were so nice . The only negative I have is that requested an alarm call as we had an early flight, we didn't get it

if you like a good nights sleep then I suggest you look elsewhere. The hotel was brilliantly located 5 mins from Centraal station and 5 minutes from the red light district. The great location comes at a price..sleep deprivation. Luckily we were up quite late..little choice really as the street below us was a hive of activity until the wee hours..the Chipsy King and Wok to Walk thriving..our alarm call came in the shape of a pneumatic drill around 7am..the shop next door being under refurbishment..the bathroom was tiny..having to leapfrog the loo to get in/out the shower..but adequate for the purpose..breakfast consisted of the usual suspects..cheese..sliced chicken (at least I think it was) and some sliced pinky meat? Oh and the cursory boiled egg..fresh sliced bread (which was delicious) that you could put through the 'toaster' thingy..fruit was a bowl of apples..sparse cereal selection..all of the above said..the staff were friendly and helpful..amazingly bi/tri/quad lingual..I would recommend this hotel for the location predominantly..very basic amenities..but let's face it who wants to spend their time in a hotel room in Amsterdam!

Great location close to the Central Station and only 30 meters from the Dam Square.

Rooms seem basic but you get a comfortable nights sleep. It is located on a busy street so it can be noisy until quite late if you are a light sleeper.

Rooms are small but have everything that you need - tv, toiletries, tea/coffee making facilities, room safe.

The cost of a taxi from the airport is approximately 70 euros.

You need to leave a deposit of 100 euros at check in by either cash or credit card.

The hotel is located above their Italian restaurant which you get a 10% discount.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant each morning. Tea/coffee, juices, cereals, yoghurts, pastries, toast, eggs (boiled /scrambled). Gluten free bread available on request. A selection of different types of milk.

Plenty of restaurants on the street that the hotel is located.

Helpful, friendly staff.

Located right in the middle of the Dam square, the entire street on which the hotel is flanked by various eating joints. Close to the Ann Frank Huis , the Red light district and with a 10 mins walk to the centraal station ( with a lesser 5 min walk to the local tram station), I’d visit this place again if I visit Amsterdam the 3rd time.
PS: the hotel rooms could’ve been stocked with some toiletries but that’s okay

Dingy, decrepit, smaller than a tin of sardines.
Worst hotel I have ever stayed in, 1.5* hotel at best.
Falsely advertising as a 3* and the pictures are very misleading.
Breakfast was laughable. Scrambled eggs sourced from cardboard.

I loved my stay here. It was easy to find, a 15 minute walk from the railway station, just off Dam Square. It's not The Ritz but doesnt advertise to be. Its clean, warm, comfortable, safe and staffed by friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff.

Plenty of plusses means this is great value for money. I will look no further when booking again for Amsterdam.

It was my first time in this great city and I found it to be a 'happy' place. It wasn't full of drunks, druggies, or stag nights as I'd feared and it was safe and friendly with bars, restaurants and quirky shops everywhere. I walked miles around it's wonderful, canalled streets.

Amsterdam is unique and I was happy to have stayed in such a great hotel.

My son and I stayed for a week in April of this year. We enjoyed every day, starting with the free breakfast and friendly staff. Room was cleaned daily and you simply can't beat the location. We ate in the restaurant downstairs a few times and it was delicious! I personally loved the carbonara. Highly recommend!

Being a solo traveler on a budget I really liked the Hotel Doria. For this price in the middle of everything ( restaurants, nightlife, attractions) it’s perfect. The rooms are small but clean. With this location you should not be spending much time in the room anyway except to sleep and get ready for your next adventure. The staff is AWESOME. I arrived several hours early and my room was ready. Yes, it’s not a fancy hotel but the location and price makes up for it. I will definitely be staying here again.

i wouldnt recomend this hotel to anybody other than a backpacker, although there are far better and cheaper hostels in town. I have visited amsterdam around thirty times and have stayed in a number of differnt central hotels. My room in the doria was very close to the worst. We had stayed at the single hotel the two previous nights and although it is basic the single is superiour in every way.

We (me and my brother) stayed at the doria due to our flight being cancelled at 11pm at night. I got my girlfriend to book it online from the uk. Knowing amsterdam was busy i considered ourselfs to be very luck to get a hotel room and at 80euro it was much more appealing than sleaping at schipol. When we got to the hotel we discovered it was on damstraat (which is busy 24hrs and fairly noisy). At reception they could not find any record of booking, but offered us a twin room at 80e which was what we wanted. (they the next day did email my girlfriend to say they had found booking but wouldnt charge her-all good there).

we got lift up to top floor where room was, alarm bells rang when in the corridor there was evidence of paint work (masking tape round fixtures and fittings) although it was a terrible job and no smell of paint- like it had been this way for quite a while. Anyhow you dont sleep in the corridors so not really to bothered.

the room is a differnt matter and why i have given place such a poor rating. I didnt expect much, and got even less. The walls were covered in stains, dirty marks, general filth- if they had been painted or cleaned in past 15years i would be stunned. Window plane was missing and a patch work card and tape job had been done- due to this it was not warm. Curtains had suspect white stain and had a letter "j" marked on them in tomato sauce (i almost wet myself laughing at that and got a pic or two of it). Floor was filthy, didny even want to touch bed side table etc as it was disgusting. Beds had seen better days about a decade ago, and given the general state of room i decided to sleep fully clothed on top of it. Bathroom was acually ok, and looked clean.

Me and my brother did expect much given time/price/location however we both found the place to be so bad that it was funny. Kind of made me think of the kind of seedy hotel that rented rooms by the hour rather than night although it isnt. At time i felt lucky to get room but in hindsite i wish we had slept at airport.
I am trully stunned at positive reviews of this hotel. If you have any questions or need any advice about amsterdam in general feel free to message me.
