Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Mister Highland Hotel is commended for its central location, making it a hit with guests who enjoy easy access to public transport and attractions. The staff's friendliness and helpfulness contribute to the positive reviews, although there are occasional mentions of service inconsistencies.
Rooms are typically seen as clean and cozy, yet some guests have issues with soundproofing and sporadic cleanliness lapses. Despite some criticism over small bathrooms, the hotel's overall value, stylish atmosphere, and amenities like quality breakfast and comfortable beds make it a popular choice for travelers seeking both modernity and charm.

Detailed Reviews
The Rokin is in a fantastic location first and foremost and is a gorgeous old building which hasn’t been ruined by its latest facelift . However , the rooms whilst clean are very basic ( no tea or coffee etc .. a hot drink can be obtained from reception according to literature ,but the girl on reception seemed shocked to be asked and struggled to scrape things together, although she did try her best with a positive attitude ) .
Another downside is if you are at the front be prepared for a lot of noise as because of the age of the building there is no double / secondary glazing so you will hear every voice, car , tram etc and with Rokin being a major street things don’t die down until about 5am so if you are a night owl shouldn’t be a problem but if you want to sleep at a decent time forget it !!! ..... staff did say after that you can request to be at the rear so might be something to bear in mind .
Breakfast was average neither stunning nor bad so overall would I stay again ? Probably not but that’s a personal thing and would probably suit a younger couple and couldn’t fault the staff who were helpful and pleasant .

Thank you for your review. Hotel Rokin is now under new ownership and we are pleased to let you know our rooms have been given an upgrade, with big flat screen TVs and coffee available in each room. We are currently working on a solution for the windows to prevent noise. We have more plans for renovation soon, so watch this space! We hope that you will stay with us again in the near future. Kind regards Hotel Rokin

My wife & I stayed from 22nd to the 24th of January it was so easy to find from the railway station only about a 10 min walk .
On arrival the hotel staff were extremely helpful & friendly throughout our stay. Our room facilities were excellent throughout bed very comfortable, & super clean room.
The location is great you are in the heart of the city so no need for transportation unless you are a pedal bike fan thousands of locals shooting around on them.so watch out when you step of the course way .
Last thing is the Breakfast well worth having in my opinion excellent choice for continental & you can have bacon, mushrooms & choice of eggs.for the
individual that likes a cooked breakfast.
Would definitely use again if I came back

We stayed for 1 night at the hotel, as part of a quick trip to Amsterdam. We decided to book the hotel due to being very reasonably priced and included a free breakfast.
First impressions aren't great.. there are renovations underway currently so the front of the building is covered in scaffolding! Not a problem though. You can see when the work is complete it will be a very nice and high class hotel.
We went upto our rooms at 2pm when we could check in.
Overall we were happy with our stay and received a free drink voucher and the breakfast was excellent.
However, our room was on the 1st floor at the front of the hotel and the windows are only single glazed so it was very noisy! As such we had limited sleep due to the outside noise from trams, people and traffic. Then to make matters worse they started working on the room directly above us from 7am in the morning so was immediately with noise sounding like furniture being moved, drilling and hammering! In the end we gave up. This was unacceptable really for work to start that early.
Overall though, the hotel was good but was really let down by such a noisy room. This reduced it from a 5 star to a 3 star for us.

Dear Mark, Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback. Thank you for your kind comments about breakfast and our reasonable price. We are currently under renovation - this is mentioned on all our booking sites, confirmation email and pre-arrival emails. We are sorry to hear that you found the room to be noisy. Due to our central location, there can be street noise. For a future stay we recommend requesting a room at the back of the hotel as this is much quieter. Our renovation takes place from 9am - 17:30pm. If you are disturbed by any renovation noise outside this time, please let our receptionists know. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards Hotel Rokin

I stayed at this hotel for three nights last week. Our room, room 20, was on the ground floor. The only window is sealed shut, hidden behind a heavy curtain which covers the whole wall, and looks out onto a brick wall two feet away. The room thus has no fresh air whatsoever, is exceedingly hot, airless and very dark. We were reduced to propping the door open in order to try to obtain air. There was no air conditioning, the fan provided did no more than agitate the stiflingly hot air in the room. We had to keep the fan running all night so the noise of this was not conducive to a night’s sleep. Each morning we woke with headaches, doubtless from breathing our hot carbon dioxide all night. The door to the en-suite is a sheet of glass which does not close properly and has two ‘modesty panels’ of peeling frosted vinyl which do very little to preserve one’s privacy when sitting on the toilet.
Breakfast was included in our room rate and was a good variety of cereals, pastries, hot food and cold buffet.
The hotel is very well situated, in the centre of Amsterdam and within walking distance of the central railway station.

Dear Isabel, Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback. We are sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations. Unfortunately it was particularly warm during your stay with us and our hotel does not have air-conditioning. We do provide all rooms with a fan, but we can understand that it can be noisy to run this all night. We are happy to hear that you liked our central location and tasty buffet. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards Hotel Rokin

Great value hotel based right in the middle of the city. Was great to see single rooms available, as well as twins and doubles. It's a fairly basic stay, but breakfast is included and has a good selection, and it was surprisingly quiet considering the central location

I stayed here for 2 nights with my sister. The location is brilliant! It is right in the dam square and walking distance from centraal station. It is also facing the Amsterdam dungeon and the Madame tousaads if these are places you want to go to. The hotel was fabulous and even prettier with the fact the Christmas decorations were put up. Both the room and hotel were spotless. The room was so cozy it had a big TV, a safe and a coffee machine and also the hotel had free Wi-Fi which is very handy! I will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone that is travelling to Amsterdam and as someone who travels to Amsterdam a lot I will definitely book this hotel again

Just booked in for a night at the end of a business trip. The location is fairly central with short walks to Dam, Jordaan, Vondelpark, the main station, museums, and other areas of interest. The room was not particularly large (not unusual for Amsterdam) but well equipped. A steep flight of stairs had to be negotiated to access my room and also to reach the breakfast room (again, not unusual for Amsterdam). However, to anyone who would find this a challenge, there seemed to be some ground-floor rooms available. Breakfast was very good and I liked the wide-ranging selection available. Summing up, a good, clean hotel at a fair to average price and I would be very happy to return there on my next visit.

Can’t knock this hotel too much. Great location, staff very helpful and friendly, decent price. A nice touch was being allowed to borrow umbrellas free of charge.
The only negatives were that our room was very small, we didn’t have a mirror and it was very noisy at night.
I would stay here again.

We had a perfect stay at Hotel Rokin for New Year's Eve. The hotel is beautifully renovated while still maintaining some lovely older features, such as the old-school Dutch ceiling beams. Staff were amazing and the room was spotless. The location is second to none with most major attractions within walking distance. If you need to go further afield there is a metro station and a tram stop just outside the door. One thing we found very impressive was the Hotel's obvious commitment to sustainability throughout. As mentioned, the staff were amazing with a special thank you going to Charlotte at reception who went above and beyond for us. We will 100% be returning here on our next visit to Amsterdam.

Terrific hotel and great value for money!! Location on the Dam square in Amsterdam and its bustling restaurants, pubs, trams, red light district and museums. Rooms are very clean with comfortable bed/bedding that exceeded my expectations. Room also had great shower with really good water pressure and big enough to dance in. Great front office staff, housekeeping, and breakfast staff who were all very polite & helpful. Price included nice breakfast of eggs, bacon, pancakes, fruit, cereals, yogurt, coffee, orange juice which rivaled other quality hotel buffets.
I routinely stay at the Americana/Clayton hotel when in Amsterdam. Glad I tried this hotel. While not as luxurious as Clayton (5 star hotel) an incredible value for money and I will definitely return. I would highly recommend to family’s, couples, or singles.
Rooms were very quiet, clean, and air conditioned for warmer days. Also had mini IPad for TV or web browsing which was very handy. Only great things to say about this hotel!! Thank you Mister Highland!!

yes, there is.
Yes, as the previous answer stated. if i remember correctly buy your ticket before you board. It's a quick ride, maybe only a few stops. Everyone gets off there so you will know. When you get off the teain, go to the front of the station. The back of the station is for buses and the front leads into the city so this is how you tell the front of the station. The Rokin will send you info on this also. The only time I had a little trouble was which street to go down coming out of ghe train station. it is the one directly in the center. you will pass a McDonalds on the right, so you know you're going down the correct street. it's about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the station to the hotel.
Yes you buy the ticket at Schipol airport and the cost is approximately €5.30. Hope you enjoy
Hi, I tried just a "Dutch" restaurant and i have a good souvenir. "Tomaz", Begijnesteeg 8. I had a lunch in a Grocery but I don't remember the name, sorry. Have a nice day
