Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.

Stayed there 8 years ago and really enjoyed the stay. It has changed hands a couple of times and has lost that warm comfortable feeling. Great location and neighborhood with #2 tram to the central station. Our room was very small and down some very narrow stairs. Among the staff, Elroi was the one pleasant experience.

Stairs are steep and awkward but there’s a lovely friendly atmosphere here. The room was small and basic , a little tired in places but very adequate. Breakfast was good, plentiful and I enjoyed it. On offer is fruit, both in my room and in reception along with free tea and coffee. Wine, beer and soft drinks also available to purchase. I’d stay here again but would request a lower floor.

We just spent three days at the “Magnolia” and enjoyed our stay. The best parts are the very friendly and helpful staff of this boutique hotel, and its wonderful location. We loved the neighborhood near beautiful Vondel Park, in easy walking distance to the museums and to many other places of interest. The very convenient #2 trams goes down this street and stops at the next corner. There are many nice restaurants, bars and markets a few steps away. This is a beautiful residential area. We had asked for a quiet room and got one on the third floor which indeed felt very private and secluded. (Others have already mentioned the multiple flights of very steep stairs which are not for the unfit and difficult to navigate with big suitcases. This is a classic Amsterdam townhouse with those steep stairs which leave no room for an elevator.) Our room was bright, spacious and aery with nice views over the neighboring rooftops. The not so good: 1) It was minimally furnished mid-century style which may be chic but is not practical: There were no closets, drawers or shelves where you could put your clothes and things, just a few hooks and clothes hangers. 2) The otherwise nice bathroom was very dimly lit. 3) It was quite cool during our August stay so we were comfortable with our fan. However I can imagine this room could get very hot and stuffy during a heatwave. We did not have the hotel breakfast which seemed overpriced to us. The tea/coffee maker in our room and the mini fridge we got on demand allowed us to make our own breakfast. The ground floor sitting room is comfortable and attractive, and fabulous coffee and refreshments are available to all guests throughout the day. On balance we were happy with our stay.

We booked this 3 star hotel for its location. If you want to be outside of the main city and close to the museums and Vondelpark this is great! The room was nice, staff very friendly and nice breakfast.

It is not my hotel. I reviewed it as a guest. I do not believe there is an age limit. Please contact the hotel directly.

What size is the Basic Room?
The room we had was quite small - large enough for 2 single beds (not pushed together) with only a very limited amount of space between them. There were other rooms which were slightly larger but not spacious.

We paid with CC There is a front desk clerk. We were late and called. He met us and served refreshments! Don’t know about checkout time. I took a 5:30am cab to the airport

Is the 'honesty bar' a complimentary service?
The Honesty Bar is not complimentary. It is the system where we trust our guests like we trust ourselves. You take from the bar in the LivingRoom what you feel like and pay when you leave. Or we bring it up to the room, with pleasure.
