Detailed Reviews
Great communication before we arrived, easy 15 min walk from the train station and met as we arrived at 9.30. The suite was gorgeous with dressing gowns, hair dryer, slippers and the bathroom even had makeup remover pads, nail file and q tips. There was a free mini bar with lager, water, soft drinks and a bottle of red. Heating easy to change by turning the outside dial on the thermometer. Kettle and nespresso coffee maker with a wide range of coffees to choose from.
It was unfortunate that due to the corona virus all museums were shut but we did a lot of walking, a boat ride, food market, the Hilton bar and, of course, the red district! Flower market all shut down. As restaurants closed on the Sunday evening we got finger foods from the local supermarket but we had an email form Meryl and Susan asking if we needed anything -they couldn't have been more helpful and caring. We will definitely come back to Amsterdam and to Hotel IX. Just a heads up - there is no TV in the suite and there is the beautiful sound of bells regularly day and night - light sleepers may need ear plugs.

The nine streets are arguably the most trendy shopping district in central Amsterdam and are not yet taken over completely by chains. While being busy and bustling, the area is not as loud as the streets around Dam square.
The hotel offers only a few rooms and no breakfast, but the rooms are unusually large and stylish. We had a suite with a large living room and a separate bedroom. There is a complete set of amenities, including nespresso machine, kettle, free minibar and wine. The beds are super comfy. Our suite had windows into an inner court and a backyard, so it was very quiet.
There is no 24h reception, the door code is sent the night before arrival. One of the owners is present between ten and early afternoon each day. They are very friendly and helpful.
I felt very comfortable here and would happily return.

We loved this place. We were in the reestraat on the top floor with our 9year old son and it was perfect for our short stay. Great location, lots of cool cafes, shops and restaurants literally outside the front door. Will definitely stay again.

Wow!! Hotel IX in Amsterdam is a traveler's dream! My daughter and I stayed in the Huidenstraat Suite for 3 nights back in November of 2014. Upon arrival, Susan met us at the door and welcomed us in like family. She was extremely generous with her time, helping us find THE BEST restaurants/shops/sites for us to enjoy. It was like having a local tour guide right at your finger tips. Susan is just lovely to talk to... and her recommendations... SPOT-ON! We enjoyed fabulous pancakes at Pancakes! Amsterdam (located conveniently in the nine streets), The VanHarte Cafe, which was right down the block (you HAVE to try their soups... AMAZING!).. And we wandered over to the Jordaan District one night for a pizza experience like no other at LaPerla. Their ingredients are flown in from the Naples area in Italy... AND TRUST ME... You will NOT be disappointed! It was like having a pizza in Italy! Susan also recommended sampling local cheeses from De Kaaskamer (also located in the 9 Streets), and once again... we were in HEAVEN. The cheeses and salamis were OUTSTANDING!
Now back to the room... The Huidenstraat Suite is located in the rear of the hotel on the first floor. The amenities in the room were first-rate. Free wi-fi, large flat-screen plasma TV, complimentary drinks in the mini-bar, lavish soaps and creams from Zenology, and slippers/robes for the duration of your stay. Susan and Merel were also gracious enough to leave us a bottle of wine when we checked into our room, along with a personalized note welcoming us to Amsterdam. JUST LOVELY! And the beds... soooo comfortable. Normally, I do not sleep well when I am away from home, but the pillows and down comforter were so plush, I slept like a queen. The shower in the room was also great... It was like a spa-experience... and towel warmers to boot!
As far as the location goes... You can't situate yourself any better than in the 9 streets. We walked from Amsterdam Central Train Station to Hotel IX, and it's only about a ten minute walk. And the trams are minutes away near Dam Square. All the museums/parks/sites can be accessed through the trams or if the weather is fine, then walking is your best bet!
As a frequent traveler, I cannot say enough wonderful things about Hotel IX. Everything was just perfect. Seriously... You'd be wasting your time staying anywhere else when you can have all the modern conveniences, location, hospitality and a great night stay right here at Hotel IX.
We can't wait to go back.. Thanks Meryl and Susan! We will be back!

BEWARE. No staff on duty, no elevator and minimal info. If you want to change the reservation they charge you 30% if you do it immediately. Luckily I did on AmEx and will get AmEx to block the charge. It's one of TripAdvisers top rated hotels as well. They should put it at the bottom of the list. I bet there is a kick back to TA from the hotel

Response from Susan M, Eigenaar at Hotel IX Amsterdam
Responded 28 Jul 2019
Dear Sir / Madam, We are bit upset by this review. Especially as we dont know who you are and what this is about, as we are always try to find solutions if there are issues. We checked our guest list from this month, but we didn’t welcome guests from Michigan (your account shows you are from Michigan) as far we could check. Please could you contact us (info@hotelixamsteram.com), as we cant do anything right now. Could you also tell us what you mean with “I bet there is a kick back from TA from the hotel” . That feels like a nasty accusation, especially since both Merel and I always do our best to give our guests a pleasant stay. Go to booking.com and look for Hotel IX, also there you will see that we are passionate about our business. Waiting for your reaction, Kind regards Susan

Hotel IX is located in just a few blocks from Dam Square in Amsterdam. If you've ever been to Times Square in NYC, Dam Square is sort of like that on a much smaller scale and without the billboards. There are a ton of people and different modes of transportation. That being said, go 2-3 blocks away from Dam Square and you're away from all the noise. This is where Hotel IX is. You'll be close enough to easily access everything and far enough away you have a quiet place to rest at night. Near the hotel there are plenty of food options ranging from neighborhood bars (het paleis) and pizza shops (da Portare Via) to great restaurants like Fou Fow Ramen (the wait for this place can reach an hour, plan accordingly) and Libertine Café (really great food a block from the hotel).
The hotel itself is easy to miss if you blink. The hotel door is kind of tucked to the side and next to a clothes store, make sure to look up for the sign. The keypad is actually on the wall opposite the door. Opening the door can be tricky, definitely watch the video they send you. I myself never figured it out, my wife had to open the hotel and room door (both are keypads). If you turn it to the right sometimes it just keeps spinning, I think my wife had some success turning the knob left and pulling down. Once you get inside you'll notice the stairs are very steep. This hotel would not be recommended for the elderly or anyone who needs assistance.
The Wolvenstraat Suite I believe is the only one without a TV, that was fine for us. We were always too tired after long days of sightseeing. The bed was very comfortable and just about the perfect size. If you are tall, maybe 5'10" or more the bed may be a bit short for you.
If you pull all the shades it is VERY dark. The bathroom is right next to the stairs leading down, I would recommend you either leave one of the blinds partially open to let in some moonlight or use your cell phone as a flashlight if you have to use the restroom at night.
The Wi-Fi is password protected and fast. If you're in the Wolvenstraat Suite and have issues connecting, try selecting the Hotel IX (rear) network, never had any issues when I used that.
There's a little sign above the fridge that says to help yourself to the minibar items as they are included in the price of the hotel. We took advantage by helping ourselves to the water, some sodas and nespresso. There was also Heineken and a bottle of wine, we don't drink alcohol so we didn't try those. The minibar was restocked everyday which was great. If you need snacks or more drinks go to the Marqt grocery store which is a block away.
The hotel overall was really great and we couldn't have been happier. We would happily recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam.
Logistics: If you fly into Schipol you can take a train to Amsterdam Central Station, it takes about 15-20 minutes and costs roughly $8 euro per ticket. Buy a ticket from the kiosk OR desk agent in Schipol Plaza. The trains usually leave from platform 1, 2 or 3. Check the monitor and make sure Amsterdam CS is one of the stops.
Arriving at Amsterdam Centraal Station? Buy a 1 hr or full day pass on the GVB from the ticket kiosk. Go outside and find where trams 13, 14 and 17 are. Put your pass up to the little button and "key in", get off at the Westermarkt stop which is only 2-3 stops from Amsterdam CS and don't forget to put your pass next to the button to "key out" as you exit the tram. Enter in the first or last car on the tram, Exit in the middle.
There's a bus line that runs too, sorry we never took it so I have no advice as to which is the proper one. We originally took tram 4 to Dam Square then walked as recommended by the woman at the help desk, that was a huge mistake. Anyone with a checked bag or carry on that rolls will find that they're in hell. There are little bricks literally the entire way and your wheels will catch on them. Take the tram, thank me later.
Most Americans now have a Chip and SIGNATURE card. In some places around Europe this is fine. In Amsterdam it's hit or miss. All of our credit cards were denied at some places so we had to pay with Euro's. We had a Capital One travel Visa card, Chase Sapphire Reserve, etc. it didn't matter. I'd say 25% of the places we went required Chip and PIN (like the kiosks to buy train and gvb tickets). So plan on bringing some Euro's just in case your card isn't accepted. Your bank can sell you Euro's at a pretty good exchange rate and just need 3-5 business days advance notice. If you have to buy Euro's at a Travelex place you may as well light money on fire.
We also got the I Amsterdam Card. I'm up in the air if this was worth it. Keep in mind it's only a discount card at some places and isn't even accepted at others. This is the kind of situation where it's probably best to sit down and figure out which museums you want to see then price it out to see if you get value. One thing that may have made the card worth it was it gave us access to local transport like the GVB.

Fabulous hotel! Perfect location! A short walk to local attractions and canals, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be very quiet at night.
We stayed in the Wolvenstraat Suite based on previous reviews, and must say we weren't disappointed! On arrival to the room guests are greeted with a bottle of wine and a welcome note from lovely hosts, Susan and Merel, which is a nice personal touch! The room is modern, tastefully decorated, impeccably clean, warm and spacious with an extremely comfortable bed. The shower room is large and beautifully tiled, the shower is powerful, toiletries are provided as well as slippers and hairdryer.
A Nespresso machine, a small mini bar and a safe are all provided at no extra charge.
I would highly recommend this hotel and would have no hesitation in staying here again. Thank you Susan and Merel, you have a lovely hotel to be proud of!

+1
We stayed here only for 1 night and choose the hotel because of its location, walking distance from our fav restaurant and in my old hood.
The hotel has spacious rooms in the nicest neighbourhood of Amsterdam, surrounded by cute design boutiques, lovely cafes, bars, restaurants and terraces.
We had one of the top floor rooms with slated roof, views towards the inner gardens behind the houses. There was a complimentary mini bar with bottle of wine (lovely touch), nice coffee maker (missed the fresh milk in the fridge as I drink black coffee), info about Adam, big bathroom with lovely toiletries.
Decoration is all really nice.
You get in and out of the hotel with a code but the owners are there each day and always willing to give travel tips and ideas for Adam.
I would love to return next year and try another room!
The only tine piece of comment I had were the addresses provided for coffee/breakfast as 2 of their recommendations had recently moved hence we could not find them in the morning when I was in terrible need of coffee

Very private boutique hotel. No concierge or check-in, just access codes to the building and your room. We never saw anybody, but did not need to... No bar or restaurant but a relatively well stocked mini bar with free beverages and tea/coffee. Great location, in the historical Nine Streets, with access to many bars and restaurants. Very nice toiletries, great bed and bathroom linens. Original architecture combining the new and the old. The Wolvenstraat suite is just amazing!! Highly recommended.

i am travelling with my 18 year old son who does not want to share a double bed with his dad !
We did have the top floor suite a few months ago, there was only one double bed available. But as already posted above just contact the landlady (Susan) for further information. She is very nice and attentive, I'm sure she will give you the information you need.
