Detailed Reviews
I stayed a weekend with a friend in a shared 8-bedroom.
Located along a quiet street and next to park it was about 15-20 minute walk to the center. Good location to reach everything!
Hostel was pretty lively but there weren't any organized events to socialize with other travellers.
Breakfast was good but very limited in choice.
Rooms were secured by card-entry and had locked storage under each bed for your belongings.
Showers were clean most of the time with hot water available all the time. One thing I'd suggest is to add some extra shelves or rails so that we can put our stuff and dry clothes aside whilst we shower.
I'd stay again here.

So i stayed one night on Monday 10th February, for the check in i had to go down on the stairs and for going to my room , more stairs, my room was on floor Four so i had a luggage and backpack, not the best for me, the Guy who checked my in was kind of rude, he spoke very fast and english it's not my main language so i ask him something and he was like "let me finished" and i was like okay...
I stayed in a 6 shared room and the place was Okay normal, kind of small, good thing you can put your baggage on a cage and locked it, you have your own plug so that was great. The restroom and shower are outside the room.
The bar feels like a nice envirement , so if you go with friends you can hang out there. It wasn't the worst Hostal, but it's was the best either.
You have 2 big museums like 2 streets from the place.

The hostel is great with lots of facilities. Love that the bar is open till 3am and you can still sit there after that if you want. Small kitchen, but everything you need.
Pizza at the bar is genuinely the worst I've ever had in my life, and the staff were disappointing with their lack of knowledge of the city. I asked 6 separate staff if they could recommend a bar.... not one of them could name even 1 for us to go visit in the evening. A Dutch staff member couldn't tell me how to buy a train ticket online....... as if I'm the first traveller to ask. When we checked in, we asked if they had any events for xmas e.g. a dinner. The staff all said no, so we made other plans, just to find out that they once again lacked any kind of knowledge and there was a dinner......
Disappointing that there's no free place to store luggage after checkout - we left our stuff in the room and the staff member told us "you'll be lucky if your stuff is still there as the cleaners remove all bags from the room" when we went to collect it. A blatant lie, and quite aggressive.

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to leave a review, we really appreciate it and can learn a lot from your experience. We are glad to read that you liked our bar and facilities, but we do have to apologise for our staff not being able to help you out with recommendations. Usually our staff is really good at recommending places, so we will take your feedback on board and discuss this in our next staff-meeting tot make sure everyone is aware and our hostel events if this and that it doesn't happen again. Our check out time is 10:30 so all belongings of guests need to be out of the room by then because there are new people checking into the room by 11 that need to use the lockers. When guests leave their stuff it usually gets brought to reception during the day where it can be picked up. It looks like that didn't happen with your stuff though. Again our sincere apologies, thanks for your time and safe travels!

Overall I just felt so cramped in this hostel, more than any other I've stayed at before. The bathrooms are so small it's almost impossible to wash your face or brush your teeth over the little sink without getting water all over the floor. And they don't have paper towels or hand dryers so you're left with gross wet hands leaving the bathroom and touching everything. My bed light had several pieces of gum on it, which could've been cleaned off before I got there. The bed itself doesn't have enough head room to sit up (I had a bottom bed) and I hit my head a few times by mistake when waking up :-) The room itself was stuffy and had a weird smell, everyone in my room wanted to keep the window open. There are 2 small hooks that are side by side for each 2 beds. So really only one person can use it otherwise your towel would touch the other's. People just hung their wet towels to dry on their bed rails which is kinda gross since you're right on top of each other. Nothing like someone else's used towel right by your face to sleep :-) I understand this is a hostel and you get what you pay for, but this hostel is poorly designed and not very functional.

I ended up staying at the flying pig up town for the last few nights of my month long eurotrip and it was awesome.
I was able to chill in the rooms which were much quieter then the ones at the downtown location, not to say that place was bad just different. Awesome location near the park and on my last night in Europe I ended up hitting the bar down stairs.
Which was fantastic I’m a pub guy I love getting drunk and meeting people sitting around the bar having a chat with the bartender and I got exactly that but turns out I was meeting a lot of the staff and became friends quick. Next I know people I telling flying what ! Flying pig!! And there’s 15 shots of jager on the bar everyone’s getting one. That was the manager lol
Next thing I know I’m hammered having a blast and closing out the bar with the staff and my new found friends. I would happily recommend this place to anyone looking to meet some awesome people!

I had an unexpected situation that needed to travel immediately to Amsterdam. I had a mistake in reserving the date because I was in a hurry. Although my booking was refundable, the receptionist showed great understanding behavior and explained everything to me, and the manager behaved very professionally and accepted my situation. All the people were friendly, and it had an amazing environment that I think suits tourists, especially young ones because many guests looked like they came alone, but they made friends in the lobby there. It was clean and warm ( I went there at the end of November and it was really cold).

Made a reservation in January 2020, in March with the cornavirus spreading Europe tried to cancel with reimbursement. First said yes, then said no because I hadn't done the booking in their website.
Refused to refund my money, although they didn't provide the service.
Treat clients like trash. Will never ever stay there in all my life.
No ethics, take the money right out of your credit card, but then don't give a damn if you can't go there because you have no flights, or if you are going to stay in room with other people. All this when there is a world Pandemic.

I had such a nice stay at the flying pig.
The vibe is great, everyone in the hostel is super nice. The staff is amazing and always happy to help you out.
It’s a great place for solo travelers since it’s so easy to connect with other people. The atmosphere in the entire hostel and especially at the bar is amazing. There are different events like solo traveler meetups, open mic and beer pong which are always fun.
The location is ideal since it’s located directly next to Vondelpark, close to museums and also in walking distance to downtown.
I’m looking forward to coming back and would recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a hostel with a great vibe and amazing people!
